Some info on a relatively niche brand and its take on a lightweight hiker. At first glance potentially unique for the sake of being unique. More to follow. Gifted by someone who supports my addiction.

Lightweight and comfortable, not durable or supportive. Further proof that all those qualities are extremely hard to achieve simultaneously.

Heavy duty, all leather boot for work or hard trekking. In use 3.5-4 yrs as of this video. Not the most comfortable nor the most indestructible boot I’ve ever used but combines those 2 qualities exceptionally well.

      I can't say. Much will depend on the needs of your feet i.e. how high your arches are, if your feet are low or high volume etc. Best bet is trial and error in this case

      Yes, I’ve used a variant of these with the exact same outsole on all kinds of terrain. They perform very well and are hard wearing .

    Some info I forgot to mention: 1. These are not spike protective 2. Vibram outsole is for the most part very good but does not shed mud well.

      If we consider a mountaneering boot with virtually no flex as 5 and a sneaker as 0, then these are a 2.5 once broken in. In my opinion.

    I’ve had and used mine for 5 years now. My only complaint is that the cushion in the footbed is fairly thin. Otherwise it’s the most comfortable and quiet boot I’ve owned. I’ve had no issue with laces or squeaking.

    I ended up buying a new looking pair of these from ebay for £42 in a 25% off deal. I wear them every day. They are suberb boots. It feels amazing to wear such a high quality item. I might have to choose something lighter for a long, grinding, 3-4 week trek.

    • @combatboots101
      @combatboots101 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say they’re true to size. Haix also have a feature on their site which recommends the size based on your foot length.

    • @flexramram3.02
      @flexramram3.02 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would recommend half a size larger. The shoes have a sole which you can take out. There is a marking on the sole. If your toes are over the mark, the shoes are too small for you.

    Have had mine for 6 years. Four-five good hikes per year and continuous wear during winters, and two weeks shooting course in the Army. Still like new. Always had Meindl in the past but like these better. Great review by the way, honest and elaborate.

    Excellent review, thanks! I never served but mine have survived prolonged backpacking trips in West Africa and the republic of Georgia, along with general mistreatment. I concur with pretty much everything you said, although I found grip on soft surfaces (deep loose sand and mud) to be suboptimal. On rock with a thin layer of sand - a much more common surface in desert environments - it's perfect though. I know the Elite Evo is also used in some militaries but indeed, it's hard to come by useful reviews of it. Curious about the new Breacher too, it seems to be something in the same vein.

    • @combatboots101
      @combatboots101 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers, you’re welcome. It’s proven difficult to find a boot that gives me the confidence to jump around uneven terrain with 25+ kg on my back and yet not feel like a ski boot as this one does. The Breacher looks very promising but I can’t find any info on whether it uses the same last as the Desert Elite.

    I recently visited your TH-cam channel and was impressed by its visual appeal. However, I noticed several areas that could use improvement. One significant issue is related to SEO, particularly the optimization of your tags and tag volume. It seems that you haven't given them sufficient attention or completed them adequately. This can affect the visibility and discoverability of your content. Additionally, there may be other areas that require attention as well.

    i tried size 9, too small, brought size 10 and they have been a nightmare, the laces are a pain to ajust, the fit, the worse boots ive ever owned, had to put in extra socks and footbead just to make them bearable, not happy with them , what aload of hype on this boot.

    • @TakeResponsibilty
      @TakeResponsibilty หลายเดือนก่อน

      Before you discount these boots, remember these are for military use, not really for civilians to buy. You will be fitted and issued by the QM with boots, spacers and liners to fit your feet. You don’t have that service as a civilian. What the review didn’t note is that the boot doesn’t have a Gortex lining for a reason. Once the boot is breached, the last thing you want is a Gortex lining. They will take an age to dry out. No good if you want to wear them the next day. They have a Cambrelle lining that’s basically 2-way wicking. Never polish Defenders, use the recommended Leider Gris. Best boots out there, if you have a proper fitting service and know how to maintain them.

    Some things I forgot/didn’t convey very clearly in the video. 1. Polyurethane (PU) is durable and is not affected by water in the first few years after manufacture. 2. PU can survive past its use by date provided it’s kept totally dry. 3. After this point the decay of PU is significantly accelerated by water & humidity as was the case here.

    Weight: 1.83kg (approx) - is that heavy for these sorts of boots? I want a full grain leather boot (preferably) for hiking. Ankle support is a good feature.

    • @combatboots101
      @combatboots101 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For the support and protection these provide the weight is a fair trade off. Those are the only 2 downsides as far as I can see, weight and cost.

      These are true military boots for the conditions in central Europe, no hiking boots. And while you are able to march quite some miles with them on not too heavy terain if you get used to the weight, they have their limits on single trails and in winter on ice and snow. I use them and or the predessesor model on day hikes from time to time for training reasons, i woudn´t choose them for multiday tours.

    Info I forgot to mention 1. The lining is Cambrielle, non waterproof but designed to draw moisture away from the foot. 2. Comes in full sizes only as is typical for British MOD boots. Half sizing is achieved via a spacer (second insole designed to take up volume in the boot and thereby make it feel like it's half a size smaller). 3. I wore out the original insole a while ago which is why I didn’t show the current one.
