20 Engine overhaul - pushrod tubes
In video 18, we took the opportunity that the cylinder heads were disassembled, to replace the pushrod tubes. With the cylinder heads out of the way, you can install standard pushrod tubes. But, disassembling the cylinder heads means replacing the gasket between cylinders and crankcase. To avoid having to loosen the cylinder heads, you can use length-adjustable pushrod tubes, which are held in tension by a powerful spring.

19 Engine overhaul - piston pin
มุมมอง 368หลายเดือนก่อน
In the previous video, we disassembled the cylinders and pistons. To disconnect the piston from the connecting rod, the piston pin had to be pushed away. This does not always go smoothly. In an engine with lots of miles, with lots of wear, the piston pin can get very stuck. Timeline of this video 00:00 Introduction 00:28 Piston pin is mounted floating 02:11 Locking rings or circlips 04:24 Remov...
18 Engine overhaul - disassemble cylinders and pistons
มุมมอง 7723 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, we will show how to disassemble cylinders and pistons. We will show the commonly used method, where the cylinder is disassembled first, and only then the piston (method 1). But you can also disassemble the cylinder together with the piston, as 1 unit (method 2). Method 2 is used if you only want to replace the gasket between cylinder and engine crankcase, then the piston rings do...
04 Engine diagnostics - valves and valve springs (part 2 spring pressure at maximum lift)
มุมมอง 7318 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the second and third parts of this video, we will measure valve spring pressure. We begin in part 2 by measuring the valve spring pressure at open valve. Also known as the valve spring pressure at maximum valve lift. In part 3, we will measure the valve spring pressure at installed length. The first thing to check is whether the valve springs have the correct specifications for your type of ...
04 Engine diagnostics - valves and valve springs (part 1 operating principle)
มุมมอง 1K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
In video 16 of the engine overhaul series, we disassembled the valves and valve springs. Not all of the cylinder heads we showed were in good condition, this does not mean that all parts need to be replaced. After a thorough diagnosis, it will show if the valves and valve springs are still reusable. This video discusses valve and valve spring diagnosis. It consists of four parts. In part 1, we ...

In part 1, we showed the basic techniques for disassembling the valves and valve springs. We did this on a fairly new cylinder head. When you're dealing with a used cylinder head, disassembly can be a little less easy. In part 2, we'll show what can go wrong, or what can be more difficult, with old cylinder heads. My other friends/colleagues at Paruzzi all have 20-30 years experience, so, the best fact-checkers in the air-cooled world. Thanks again for your great input.

    How many crank seal we put for vw beetle?

    • @paruzzi-english
      @paruzzi-english 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On VW Type 1 there is one crank seal. But, watch out, some flywheels (later types) have an O-ring in the flywheel, that also seals the crank. Older types have an additional paper seal. When preparing to do my first (by myself, not letting shop do it) valve adjustment, I discovered my distributor to be 180 off... as it has run fine for all these years, I'm not going to risk this surgery. Great info, though, and was extremely interesting to watch. Thank you for posting this video, it was quite educational.

    • @paruzzi-english
      @paruzzi-english 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In some cases, adjusting the ignition is not possible, because the distributor will be blocked by the fuel pump, rotating to the correct pre-ignition is impossible, in some cases, you get lucky, and you can adjust even with distributor 180° off. So, you were one of the lucky people. Rotating it just for the aesthetic is not a good idea, too many risks to damage parts, just for the view. So, if it runs, don't touch. Thanks for watching. Xavier

    Crap I forgot to put the little spring in. It ran fine then I found the spring on my parts tray. What exactly is it for and is it nessarry?

    • @paruzzi-english
      @paruzzi-english ปีที่แล้ว

      The spring will keep the drive shaft under tension, between the distributor and the rings below. Possible lots of rattling, but wear is the biggest issue over time. Disassemble and insert the spring. I know, not pleasant. When overhauling, always use exploded views from your engine, to find out which parts go where, en the sequence. In many cases, previous overhauling was not done well, missing parts, or using parts with incorrect size/strength.

    This video series is titled 'ENGLISH', but your narrator is giving torque values in 'Newton Meters'. Please present torque specifications in 'foot pounds.'

    • @paruzzi-english
      @paruzzi-english ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand your concern. You can use one of the many calculators online like www.thecalculatorsite.com/conversions/common/newton-meters-foot-pounds.php to convert Nm to Foot Pounds. We started in early videos to talk about mm and inches, but it was too much info and confusing, although this was the feedback. So, we had to make a choice. Many viewers in Europe watch the English version, but set captions to Spanish, Italian, German, ... they would be confused with Foot Pound, and we would get the same remark why not use Nm. We mention torque specs, but you need to check your manual, for your engine, to make sure about the torque settings.Thanks for your feedback.

    Maybe I missed it, but in your diagram of the pistons TDC movement what are you showing on top of the engine. Pressure built up in the case releasing and then a flap closing after the pressure releases. Where is that flap located and what is it called?

    • @paruzzi-english
      @paruzzi-english ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are referring to the crankcase breather. It shows when the pistons are moving back in, a pressure will exist in the crankcase, and that pressure you get out to avoid oil leaking from every crack. It is not part of this content really. It will be discuss in later videos. Thanks for you interest.

    To test the engine on the workbench, you will need an accessory to attach the starter. Use a part of a gearbox or use the nose of a VW Bus transmission. Different possibilities. You can also mount the engine in the car, then test it, but if something goes wrong, you have to take the engine out again. We explain this in detail in this series of videos.
