One of the hardest things about changing an insulin pump site for me is finding a way to do so while keeping my young children busy! How do you fly with a tandem mobi and Dexcom g7

    • @JillianBoileau
      @JillianBoileau 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! The same way I'd fly with the t:slim and the g6 (as I talked about in the video). I'd refuse to go through a full body scanner and request that my medical bag (with my CGM sensors) does not go through the x-ray machine. The pump can go through metal detectors, but has not been tested for the full body scanners, so I feel that its best to be safe with such expensive medical equipment. This will usually get you a full (and thorough) pat-down, but I'd say its worth it for your diabetes gear! I hope this helps!

    Great review! I currently am in the process of switching from t:slim X2 -> Omnipod 5 -> Mobi. I should hopefully have it next week! I'm not the biggest fan of the Omnipod 5 algorithm but liked the smaller size compared to the t:slim x2. I think the Mobi will give me the best of both worlds.

    The phone need is my biggest con re the Mobi. This is also a reason i moved from DIY Loop/AAPS to Tslim, which is completely autonomous. But my plan is to have Dex connection to the watch (it also drops out a lot) and use the manual bolus button on the pump if I don't have the phone with me. Will see.

      Yes, this is definitely the biggest complaint I am hearing about the Mobi. I’m really interested in giving DIY Loop a go myself. Besides the need for a phone, do you have any other complaints about it? I’m overwhelmed with the setup process, but I still think it’s worth a shot for me.

Although I absolutely love the small size, I am going to return it to Tandem and go back to the t-slim. I cannot handle being tied to my phone. I need controls directly on my pump. I am sad, but cannot rely on using my phone for controlling my insulin pump. Thank you for your wonderful videos!

    Do you have to take off the tandem Mobi pump before doing anything water related? For example, before showering or swimming?

    • @JillianBoileau
      @JillianBoileau 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Mobi is water resistant, but not waterproof. I recommend taking it off before getting wet. I’ve heard of some people leaving it on while showering, but I would not do this. I like to disconnect and charge it during my shower anyway. The Mobi has an IP28 rating, which means it’s supposed to be able to withstand being submerged in up to 8 feet of water for 2 hours, but at the same time, Tandem does not recommend you wear the pump while swimming. It’s best to be safe in my opinion. I hope this helps!!

    Hi Jillian, new subscriber here. Great job on your channel. I’ve been following Dr. B since I found his book in 1997. I’m about to give the Omnipod a try and I plan to combine it with Regular insulin by injection for my high protein/ low carb meals. My basal insulin requirements overnight are very different than daytime so I either wake up high or have to set an alarm for 3pm and take a bolus EVERY NIGHT. I’m hopeful the Omnipod will do a good job and allow me to get better control overnight.

      @ajnolan7416 Welcome and THANK YOU SO MUCH! You've probably been under pretty good control if you've been following Dr B for that long. Good for you! I used Omnipod 5 for a bit, but wasn't a fan of the Smart Adjust auto-mode at all! The algorithm just wasn't aggressive enough for me. Hopefully you can make it work for you. If you do have troubles, I'd suggest sticking with manual mode and getting your basals dialed in correctly. Also, please look into DIY Loop with an Omnipod Dash. I think it's great you are using Regular insulin with your meals! I've done this off and on over the last few years, but I've been sticking to extended boluses with my pump lately. This is mostly out of convenience, but I'll admit, it never seems to work as good as using R insulin for low carb/high protein meals. I use to do the same combo when my Dexcoms started lifting, but I found that the over patches that Dexcom provides don’t work as well if you spend a lot of time in water. I did a whole video talking about how this combo works, but after trying these patches, I find they work better. I have not needed to use the Skin Tac with these. They don’t seem to be lifting as much, but you could definitely still use it if you feel like you need it. If you decide to give these a try, please let me know what you think! The person I spoke with said they were aware of the situation from other Diabetics as well. I was told to leave the air bubble in my cartridge and wear it upside down so the air rests at the back of the cartridge. Unfortunately, I do not like having all the tubing hanging down so low on my waist. Oh well, I guess I have to be patient with Tandem since it is so new. I ado am frustrated with Control IQ giving me a correction bolus when I am in sleep mode. I always wake up too low. • @JillianBoileau
      @JillianBoileau 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is pretty bulky for me. It's slightly smaller than the Omnipod 5, but the tubing adds to it. A reason for using the adhesive sleeve would be to keep it concealed. Some diabetics are self conscious or don't like answering questions about the devices they use. I used to be this way before I got a CGM and a pump. Now I feel like it helps connect me with other diabetics and gives me a chance to educate people who don't know much about our condition. I think the sleeve is great for athletes and very active individuals. The 5 inch tubing is much shorter. Having the tubing under my shirt when i wear the sleeve makes me feel like there is less chance of my site being pulled out by children or catching on a door handle. It's also makes wearing a bathing suit or a dress easier.

I only use it overnight as I find I can do a better job of controlling during the day, largely because of how Control IQ overcompensates and only gives you 60% of the correction bolus you need, leading to prolonged highs.

      Thank you, thank you!! I actually talked about this in an earlier video i'll link here for you: th-cam.com/video/YUWBb23WKvQ/w-d-xo.html The reasons you listed are some of the main reasons I don't use Control IQ very often. I also like to be in a lower range than 110 when I'm in really good control. I often found that CIQ would run me much higher than 110 most of the time. I'd like to mess around with the algorithm when I have some time and tweak my numbers to keep me lower. I know many have luck with this, but I haven't found the right formula to have much success yet. It would make a great video and I believe it would be helpful to many. Thank you for your comment!!

      @@JillianBoileau Thank you so much! That is wonderful news. I am a T1D for almost 45 years, on a pump for the last 28 years. Just started with a CGM this past January but not interested in Control IQ. I am not a techy person and I need to take what change I invite into my life (OR am sometimes forced to make) very slowly. SO- maybe someday way down the line I will relent on that last piece, but not for now. I am thrilled that I can still pursue my interest in the Mobi without being made to do something that is not right for me. @eehgood That's great you are using a CGM! It is so helpful being able to see trends and get alerts for lows/highs. I've had zero 911 calls made on my behalf since getting one (my family has made more 911 calls in the past than I'd like to admit for nighttime lows). I myself don't choose to use Control Iq very often. I DO think it has the best algorithm for any auto-mode currently on the market, but it still has many drawbacks for me. I address these issues in my video: th-cam.com/video/YUWBb23WKvQ/w-d-xo.html Thank you so much for appreciating my content! It means so much to hear that you and others find it helpful! Thank you for this review. I’ve been a diabetic now for 18 years and I’m in the process of getting my first pump. I chose the Mobi because of my active lifestyle and was worried about having long tubes hanging from my pockets. And I was able to stick the Moby to me and use my shirt as protection for the tube, but I am a newbie at this and we’ll see how it goes .ps pumps used to scare me because I wasn’t in control of the amount of insulin that was directly being injected, but my doctor assures me that they are completely safe🧐🤷

    • @JillianBoileau
      @JillianBoileau 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re welcome! Those are valid feelings! I was nervous with my first pump. It was new and scary. The main thing you need to remember is that you aren’t taking any long acting insulin. So with small amounts of rapid acting insulin in its place for basal, with a hiccup you need to be cautious of DKA. It can come on very suddenly with the use of a pump. As long as you are in decent control, you should see the signs of a pump occlusion or a bad site before you go too high. A CGM will alert you so I’d certainly recommend using one with a pump. This can still happen with MDI if you inject long acting into scar tissue so I wouldn’t let this deter you from using a pump. I’m so excited for you! I think the Mobi will be absolutely perfect for you!

    Ive been using the mobi for almost 3 months and I like it. I was afraid to be tethered to a charging cable and the 200 unit cartridge. I was using Medtronic and i refused to use their unreliable harpoon thick needle Guardian Continuous blood glucose monitor. The charging is very fast, from 85 to 100% in 10 minutes. It is so lightweight and small, I don't even feel it in my pocket. It's not like the Medtronic heavy brick, i had to carry in my pocket. I swim with it without any problems. My control- IQ is on 24/7 and I wake up every morning with my blood glucose between 100 and 113, i love it!!! For those that doesn't know yet, the cartridge can be refilled without having to put a new one in every time. It can also be charged with any wireless charger, You don't have to use the one that came with the mobi. Some things that definitely will make the mobi better is a bigger cartridge. The app, needs some work. Add more numbers to the graph. They show on mine 140 and then 400, what about 200 and 300. It will just make it easier to read, The same with the time, 2pm and then 4 pm. I can't really see how high my BS was at a certain time. I also had some connection issues with the dexcom so a better bluetooth signal will make it better. Anyway, I love the mobi and are looking forward to see some software and firmware updates.

    Did u get around 2 watching the Dr Bernstein TH-cam about reversing complications? I remember he told a story about a patient of his who wad scheduled 4 eye surgery - the patient decided to hold off on the procedure and do everything Dr B recommend. The patient returned to the eye doctor and there had been so much improvement it was determined that the operation was no longer necessary. The eye doc called Dr B with questions because he had never seen that before and acknowledged he didn't even know it was possible etc. If the story wasn't in the video I sent u the link 4 then it is elsewhere but I remember it well. My own retinopathy diagnosis initially was moderate but has since been changed to mild. Diabetics should spread the good news about what is possible. Of course Dr B IS responsible and explained that it depends of course on how advanced the existing damage is and that it's going to take time 2 c healing/reversal/improvement. U can't change the past but u can decide to change NOW!!!

      Yes, I did! I don’t recall him talking about that particular story in the video you linked, but I think he may have mentioned it in his book. I’d have to go back and check. It’s amazing how many people’s lives Dr B has changed. One of the main reasons I started my channel was to present his findings to other diabetics who haven’t come across this information before. It’s so unreal how you can turn your life/health around with a few substitutions and a little discipline. @JillianBoileau 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know you said it’s hard to measure the amount wasted, but I know it takes over 12 units to fill my 23 inch tubing. So for 5 inch tubing, let’s estimate it takes 2.5 units. That’s 9.5 units less than the 23 inch tubing. So if you change your site every 3 days, that’s 95 units less to be wasted. That’s about 3 days worth of insulin for me. If you are paying out of pocket for your insulin, I’d like to say that this could be a deciding factor for someone shopping around.
