Congratulations. Here in Germany one was recently sold that also had the symbol. This was used to transport NASA astronauts from the base to the shuttle. Always have a good trip 👍

When I got my late '73 Glacier 5 years ago, I had never even been in a motor home before, so needless to say I have learned a lot since then. The first, and most important is : How does your family (wife) feel about it. WITHOUT YOUR TEAM'S FULL SUPPORT YOU WILL BE MISERABLE. People are more important than things. Join a club. Expect to spend at least $10k . There, I said it. 1: The frame- no need it going further if big holes. Surface rust is OK. 2: Brakes- It is better that it not run, than to have bad brakes. Expect to touch /examine/ or possibly replace every single part. Don't neglect the Parking E brake. 3: Bearings- Front and rear wheel bearings and bogie (rear suspension) pins. 4: Wheels: stock '73 wheels were not made for modern (radial tires) and are an odd size (16.5")., so look for 16", or possibly 17" replacements. Your's maybe okay. Take them off,so you will not be tempted to drive her yet. 5: Suspension: Look at the lower front ball joints for hairline cracks, Replacements are rare, but available. Rear suspension airbags, like your 50 year old originals are no longer made. There are several new systems available. Check, clean adjust air lines, tank and compressor.Like the brakes, critically examine every component. 6: Steering: Check, clean steering u-joints, rubber covers and steering box. The power steering pump drives the windshield wiper hydraulic motor. Clean or replace the windshield wiper motor filter. Do not neglect this :it is a potential FIRE hazard. 7: Tires- Check the DOT date code on the tires. -there is a 4 digit number showing the week of the year and the last 2 digits of the manufactured date. If they are more than 5 years old - replace. Motorhome tires age out- they rarely wear out. 8: Fuel system- very important-extreme fire hazard. "If you haven't replaced your fuel lines yourself within 2 years, do not start your engine, until you do". Ethanol fuel is terrible for old rubber. Gates Barricade hose is recommended. Keep as many possible leakage points low on inside of the frame. Change all fuel filters, but keep at least 2 spare carburetor filters in the coach at all times. Consider installing an electric fuel pump, if someone hasn't already. A three hose fuel pump, with a return fuel line is recommended to prevent "vapor lock" on a hot day. 9: Transmission and final drive- Your coach is unique in that it has the largest front wheel drive ever made by a major US manufacturer, and along with Olds Toronado and Cadillac Eldorado, uses GM's 425 Turbo Hydromatic transmission. Similar, but not identical to the tough TH400. Uses a unique external governor. Get a spare governor gear drive, learn how to install, and keep it in your coach. Change fluid and filter in trans, and gear oil in final drive. 10: Engine: Change oil, but add zinc. Replace fuel line (hose) from pump to carb with hi-temp line. Learn to change carb filter, see #8, and keep any special tools handy. Examine radiator, change hoses, belts, air filter and PCV valve. Check for any leaks, but especially gasoline leaks. 11: Electrical: Check batteries, you will have 3. One for the engine, another one up front for the "house" and a third one in the back for the Onan 4000 Watt generator. Generator and it's battery can wait. Take time to check the 10 gauge wire to the air compressor. Replacement highly likely. Determine if your alternator is a two wire or one wire. One wire alternator is recommended. Any splice or crimp in wiring is highly suspect and likely should be replaced. Pull all the light bulbs from under the toe kick area (these are a fire hazard), consider LED replacements. The 120 volt wiring, including generator will be later. 12: Propane system: examine every line and fitting. Your tank, hoses and regulators are likely too old to be used so don't be too concerned with them now, but familiarize yourself with the components, and be sure the supply is OFF. Do be aware your refrigerator may be propane powered as well as electrical, but either way is a HUGE FIRE HAZARD. 13 Fire planning: think about what you would do if a fire broke out in your coach. There is only one door, so consider what you would do if trapped. Those fire extinguishers that you have are basically junk and are only good for a life and death escape, and will damage everything the chemicals touch. If you have to use them, consider your coach totaled. Consider acquiring a fire blanket. Look for the metal ring at the top of the rear window glass where the sticker is mounted. When this is pulled the rear glass can be pushed out. Use only in an emergency. 14: Now you can get your new tires, if needed. 15: This is not a complete, nor is anyone bound to follow any part of this list, just a few suggestions. Treat her like a daughter, and consider that one day she will leave your loving care, but for now have fun, be safe and take your friends along.

Welcome to the Cult of the GMC Motorhome! I've got a 26 foot GMC "Transmode", also a "Glacier" National Park model, nearly identical to yours. I'm in North Alabama, I think maybe not far from you! GMC International held their National meeting in Murfreesboro two years ago! Mine was built in the last week of November 1973, an so was registered as a '74. Your's appears to be an earlier '73, with either a 472 or 500 Cadillac engine. About 5,000 are known and still on the road. There are huge and active clubs, such as GMCI and the local Dixielanders.

Steve,that is a old record indeed,In the early 1940`s I had an old 78 record of RADIO BLOOPERS,and in the 1940`s radio stations used to play the commercials on a record,as opposed to the radio announcer,and one was a guy who was advertising for the old A& P grocery stores and he said, "REMEMBER TO GO TO YOUR LOCAL A&P & P & P & P &P before someone stopped the record,as the record had stuck,
