Great flight.
great video Steve, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for posting this video and letting me fantasize a bit
Love your videos, but please cut the music. It destroys the entire experience.
Loving your content 😀 thank you
Awesome vid Steve! Hope you're well!
When you did the fuel calcs did you include headwind assumptions on way out and on way back to Coffs if you couldn't land. You had some pretty heavy headwonk/sidewing going to Launceston from memory.
I saw X42 in the hangar at BK, great looking machine. Thanks for sharing this voyage!
I have flown commercial several times, but have also done over 100 return trips via road since 1970, Perth to east coast (mostly to racing circuits) but would love to do the trip in a light aircraft, preferably overland for the scenery. Great video thanks. Am a bit surprised at how busy a pilot actually is.
Air taxi idea is good but not sure how reliable weather info is 15 days out.
Awesome video! I did my basic in a da40. Very nice aircraft.
That was a perfect simulation Steve, you even set up an incoming call and camera fail to demonstrate the high workload and distractions you can expect in these situations... 👌👌
I was up at Griffith about a month ago flying from MB, they have a all brand new club room upgrade there that looks great.
Great video Steve.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and planning process along the way. I enjoyed watching your journey. Cheers.
Hi Steve, Absolutely love your vision of the flight taxi service. I live in Sydney as a Sole Trader specialising in sales. I know a lot of people that would benefit from this service and would love to have a chat. Please feel free to reach out, cheers. Aaron
I’d love to discuss. My email is Stephen.boyd@diamondairtaxis.com
@@diamondairtaxis Done, you can delete the comment if you like. If nothing comes through, it may have gone straight into the spam folder from an unknown email. Cheers.
It may sound mad, but I quite enjoy flying in actual IFR.
Me too! IMC conditions are far more challenging and I find it more rewarding!
If I was going to fly in that kind of WX, it'd be in a DA62. I'm working on whether the 42 or 62 will work better for my mission. I'm considering Angel flights, so there's a balance between ingress and safety for my particular mission. Any thoughts on those two?
Both are excellent aircraft. The DA62 is substantially larger internally with a higher useful load. It all depends on your mission. I’ve flown both and they are very nice to fly!
what happens if you need a shit?
You hold it or land!
How did you find the DA 40 Steve have been thinking of going from an Archer2 to one how has your experience been??
The DA40NG (Jet A1 burning diesel engine) is excellent. I’ve not flown the Archer2 but you should do a trial flight of the DA40NG. I love the bubble canopy and associated visibility. It’s amazing.
First time viewer. Excellent video. Your a very competent pilot.
Thanks for watching!
i have to fly my old musketeer from wedderburn to perth next holiday
It’s a great flight… a bit long though
@@diamondairtaxis the longer it is the more hours i can get towards my ppl
I flew VFR into Canberra late last year and also had a bit of trouble spotting it (on a clear day!)... I think Canberra ATC know that and I can almost imagine them looking at each other knowingly when they ask if you have the field in sight ;-)
Haha. “Knowingly” I like it.
Enjoyed the ride thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this idea, since discovering the DA62, I was thinking of doing the same. luxury air taxi type flying, all about convienience. keen to explore the possibilities.
Exactly! Let’s see how things go over the next few months
A good tutorial on cockpit flow and procedure. Reminds me in the early 2000s flying a Seneca III in an east coast low from BK to PMQ, torrential rain from door to door with a 600' cloud base at PMQ. Just about to do a missed approach when the runway became visual. In those days I had a flight director, HSI, Garmin 450, radar and autopilot - no glass, and six levers to play with, eight including the cowl flaps. What a difference 25+ years make - the DA62 is a very similar aircraft to the Seneca III in both performance and capacity (though the Seneca's range sucks in comparison), but due to all the electronics and glass vastly easier to fly, and dare I say vastly safer. NO PAPER!!! 👏 (and no updates 👍)
Great comment. And yes I agree the technology makes the flying much safer. Flying the baron is far more challenging! I’ve not flown the Seneca but I imagine it’s similar to the baron.
Nice Job Captain , Glad Ya Didn"t Have too Ditch in Bass Straight 50 Mies out at Sea I Suppose You Feel More comfortable Flying over Land Do You ? At least you know you Could Land some where If someting wen"t Wrong Im supprised How Far you Fly above the Clouds , But I know nothing about Flying, I Would Be Hugging the Tree Tops just Incase LOL
Yes I’m glad about that also! Flying over land generally provides more options for a forced landing. Unless it’s mountains!
They hide everything in Canberra especially where your tax dollar goes cheers.
Haha!
Can happen and has happened to all of us Steve. Flown into Canberra many times, especially in the late 90's, If visual in marginal conditions I always looked for Lake Burley Griffin and I knew the AP was due east of that. What was hard in the past was my 3 year contract in the outback mainly night runs. Cheers mate keep up the good work.
Great tip on using lake burley griffin. Thanks for watching!
Wow! Thank you for the ride along.
Thanks for watching
2 birds with one prop.
Yeah not bad!
Hey it's still raining cheers.
It is a beautiful place to visit had 10 days there, looks like Neds beach is still full of fish cheers from Moruya.
Thanks. Yes it’s amazing. I’m hoping to return in coming weeks in the DA62. Nice to have 2 engines this time!
Great work Steve. Beautiful machine, looks perfectly suited to your mission purpose. Love your methodical thinking and aways staying well ahead of the aircraft. Videos are top quality as well. In my experience it’s always harder than you think it’s going to be to capture quality video and audio in aircraft. Cheers, Mark (YMMB)
Thanks Mark. Yes the cameras always overheat or switch off for some random reason adding to the challenge!
Why are your strobes on before taxi?
Diamond aircraft do not have a red beacon. So the white strobes are the anti collision lights. Part 91 MOS 26.22 requires anti collision lights to be on immediately after engine start until shutdown. This is also consistent with the aircraft checklist.
Good stuff Steve. How did you put the delays (with hourglass) and runways (11C) in the foreflight flight plan? Thanks
It’s easy in FF. On map view you select a waypoint and “select altitude/speed/time”. The runway can be selected from the same menu or I normally select runway from the flights page “departure” -> “takeoff”
That is a great video. Really interesting. I shall subscribe!
Awesome, thank you!
Just recently subscribed, love your vids Steve, Operated from YMEN for many years, great work. Cheers John.
Great thanks for subscribing! I enjoy flying into YMEN. Lots of food and coffee within walking distance of the airport! And an ILS!
Hi Steve, just wondering why the tower gave you the clearance at the holding point and not the run up bay? (I haven’t done a departure into class C from Bankstown yet, but this seems different to what I’ve read).
been fairly common at bankstown since the third runway (11L/29R) opened back up, pretty sure its usually just dependent on how busy the airport is because ive been cleared direct to the holding point doing both CTA and OCTA departures.
Normally you receive the clearance in the run up bay, however in the 62 I skip the bay and taxi straight to the holding point so I either get it mid taxi or at the holding point
Really enjoyed that one Steve. It was great to see how you handled all the challenges in this flight - pressure of a weather change, passengers, a choice between a possibly iffy visual approach and delayed ILS, a challenge seeing the runway (CB is difficult, especially in poor viz), directed to less than ideal parking (CB needs to do much, much better in GA parking).
Great feedback, with lots of good observations. Yes it was very difficult to see on that day! And yes the parking at CB is always very limited… not ideal
just found your channel . .. enjoyed it will be watching more .Giday from NZ
G’day! Hoping to fly across the Tasman sometime in coming months
@@diamondairtaxis Subscribed. Haven't flown YSSY>YPPH since 2009. Now after retirement and saying goodbye to Part 121 after 40 years.... Hello Steve, Why did you move from a Baron 58 to a DA62 ? How are operating costs in both ?
I did my multi engine IR in the g58 baron but I placed my order for the DA62 around 2 years ago. I wanted to train in the more challenging aircraft (baron) but I think the DA62 is the one to own.. amazing aircraft!
The DA62 uses roughly half the fuel of the baron with similar payload and speeds
@@diamondairtaxis thanks for your answer ! Do you consider the DA62 as a true six seater aircraft ? I know that you can put 6 people in it but what about their luggages ? The front baggage compartment looks so small !
Wow! This to me is living the dream! Thank you for flying us to Canberra. 👍🏻
No worries. Thanks for watching!

It wasn’t too bad.. just limited visibility in showers. Have you had your trial in the DA40NG yet?
@@diamondairtaxisDA40NG tomorrow and SR22T on Friday, however not holding my breath due to current weather conditions although picked up the Bose A30 today while in Bankstown
Yes weather is not great in Sydney but maybe they could fly IFR to Bathurst (or somewhere else where the weather is VFR) and let you fly there.
Yes that’s a very good suggestion, will bring it up with Li & Koz tomorrow morning 👍
I would pay from Albion Park to Go,d Coast for sure
Another great video Steve. Why did they end up parking you on the Fairbairn Apron?
Thanks. There was an air show on the weekend and they were setting up in the ga area… at least the ARO was kind enough to drive me over to collect my pax!
Is it just me or does anyone else find flying videos calming and relaxing? I also love the mic voices between pilot and ATC
