Thank you so much for this!! By the way you are a Ryan Gosling doppelgänger 😁
ha ha! thanks :)
Indeed…
Just wondering, what's your thoughts of your Engerica past? It's just such a close and such a good memories from me, listening to this band 20 years ago in rural Russian area :) And it's still holds on, such a pity that it not much being talked about it nowadays. Anyway, just wanted you to know that we are still here, admirers of your distant music creations :)
Thanks. Glad that I did it and glad that you got some joy from it then and now still
thank u mr gardener, I wish I’d found your videos earlier they’ve been so helpful :)
Glad you like them!
you're a legend, you saved me so much time. wish me luck for my final exam tomorrow ❤
Good luck!
Do experimental and post modern roughly mean the same thing?
No. Experimental films are unusual, unconventional and challenging. Postmodernism is a philosophy / way of thinking.
@@MrGardnersFilmStudiesChannel thank you
genuinely man, i could not ask for a better recap the night before my exams, thanks a bunch :)
Could these be considered postmodern or experimental as well
What aspects are you referring to please? Generally speaking most of the signatures probably come under some aspect of postmodernism. However, I wouldn't say "Pulp Fiction" is especially experimental.
@@MrGardnersFilmStudiesChannel could I mention gender and race representation as postmodern?
thanks for sharing these information with us. I learned a lot. good luck with your career 💯👍 btw your cat is awesome! ❤🐱😀
Thank you! He was an awesome cat.
@@MrGardnersFilmStudiesChannel Wasss??? whats happened to him? btw its a pleasure to meet you here on youtube 🥰👍
Mr Gardner you’re just simply great. 3 years later it still helps! Great info and I wish you were my film teacher also 🙏 keep it up
Thank you - that's very nice. I do offer private online tuition. If that's something you would be interested in, you can message me on insta @dvdgrdnr :)
your videos on blade runner and vertigo were so useful thank you so much you are genuinely a blessing in disguise !! the question was focused around auteur (won't say exactly what because I don't think we're meant to) but oh my god I would not have been able to write as well as I did without your vids... please keep doing what you're doing! lifesaver!
I'm happy to hear they were of help. Best of luck with Component 2!
Thank you! My class have been watching your videos for the past two years so thank you!

@@MrGardnersFilmStudiesChannel Thank you very much! Your videos are amazing, could you please do a series on Spike Lee's 'Do the Right Thing' ? Thank you
Thank you so much this was so helpful!!
Glad to hear that. Thank you
Please, please, please do one flew over the cookoos nest!! You're amazing
Aw thanks. Unlikely I will make a OFOTCN video. Great film though. I do online private tutoring though. If you're interested contact me via Instagram @dvdgrdnr Thanks
I love whenever Pauline Kael's name comes up these days. She wrote essays about the most mediocre films which made me want to actually see just how mediocre they were. As for Vertigo, it just wouldn't be the same without Kim Novak. She's just surreal. Jimmy Stewart, on the other hand, wears much too much makeup to appear younger. Ralph Meeks would have been fantastic.
i dont know if ur still active on this channel but is their any sources like this for my film studies revision these videos are so useful but u only cover one of my films on the spec
Hi. I'm afraid these are the only ones, although I've seen other a level film videos on TH-cam. I do offer private tuition online, so please let me know if that's of any interest. My Instagram is @dvdgrdnr and you can message me on there.
Please come back to youtube we need you now more than ever!!! Please do Captain Fantastic 🙏🙏
Thank you for the kind words. Will try my best to make a video or 2 this year.
Once again - a suprb resource for this year's cohort! Make some more!!!!!! x
Thank you! Would love to make some more for the new films - I've just struggled to find time to make them. Fingers crossed I can do some more this year.
Thank you so much for this video! You saved my Pan's Labyrinth exam!

my pleasure and hope the exam goes well!
bro had to play the face smashing scene at least 5 times lmao
this is very helpful, my component one exam is tomo and i love you for this!! i compare vertigo to Do the Right thing
best of luck in the exam tomorrow!
thanks for making these videos, i love that you put the scenes in and all the pictures and stuff so we know exactly what you're talking about, it really helps me grasp what you're saying and keeps it entertaining. Thanks again for putting all the time and effort into this 👍
My pleasure. Thank you for watching.
please come back!! British film component is ruining my life !!!
Sorry to hear that. If I can help at all please let me know.
please please please make more of these videos- you are saving my a levels!!!
I will!
The most helpful and entertaining A level Film Studies videos there are. So sad 'Pulp Fiction' is no longer going to be a set film. I don't suppose you are planning any new videos for the new films? Your storming resources would make choosing new films so much easier!
I've filmed a video for Amy. Just needs editing. Very excited about some of the new film choices, like "promising young woman" and "mangrove"
@@MrGardnersFilmStudiesChannel Struggling to choose! 'Promising Young Woman' or 'Joker?' Stay with Scott and do 'Alien?' The students really rate 'Amy.' Great news!
This is the best channel I’ve come across on TH-cam in regards to cinema.. real substance
Thank you!
@@MrGardnersFilmStudiesChannel pls keep making these videos. It’s been 2 years. Pls continue. Thanks!
Love your videos, you should post more often, best teacher I’ve come across on TH-cam. (Also love the baackground!!)
Ahh thanks! Such lovely words. I would love to post more and plan to again this year 🤞🏻
Man I miss film, did it during a levels but man I forgot how much I love it
It's the best a level there is
Hello, you are amazing! Are you going to do any more videos at all?? Especially for the new spec, I'm thinking Get Out for American film , or memento for experimental cinema?
Thank you so much Mr Gardner, my friend and I both received an A* in film studies today which couldn’t have been done without these helpful videos! Thanks a million
Amazing! Well done kirsty!
Anybody know when it was decided that the sex scene between Deckard and Rachel was a "rape scene"?
It's sometimes called a "hate scene" rather than a love scene. The way I read it is that he doesn't see her as a real person. He tells her what to say and do as he's programming a computer. Or maybe he's giving her some human emotions to experience in order to make her more real? In the end, he is in love with her. His encounter with Batty, who shows him mercy and compassion, may have convinced him that the replicants are valid people with genuine feelings and dreams. Of Electric Sheep.
when he holds her captive as to prevent her escape so he can engage in sexual acts with her is when i think it was decided this was pretty rapey
Legend
I don't do film studies and am just here for quick Spanish revision (we also study this film), but in case anyone does, I'd like to mention that when Vidal greets Carmen and Ofelia coming out of the car, he addresses them with Bienvenidos, the masculine form of welcome (in Spanish, the masculine is used when a group contains both masculine and feminine, even if there were 99 feminine and 1 masculine) and in doing so, addresses his unborn child whilst assuming that it will be a boy. It shows his vain dream of having a strong son to whom he can give his watch, as his father gave him, and his willingness to dismiss his wife and stepchild. (sorry if this gets mentioned in the second part or anywhere else, but I'd imagine it doesn't since you guys will be reading the subtitles most likely)
Wow! What an interesting insight. Something I never would have picked up on. Thanks Bob!
@@MrGardnersFilmStudiesChannel Thanks for the video too, our question today was about Vidal's aggression and I used your point about him un-buttoning his shirt before the torture and mercedes scenes to show that he enjoys it. Not something I'd thought of, but very telling.
this is amazing
thank you for getting me through my film a level!! i just sat paper 2 with the advanced information and this video saved me along with a lot of the others!! :D
Well done on completing your a level film lauren! Pleased to hear the video came in handy.
Sitting my exam on this tomorrow, I must’ve watched these videos at least 6 times as they have been very helpful Thank you
Best of luck on tomorrow's exam
mr Gardner you're brilliant! Was feeling stuck and this video has saved me thank you
No problem. Glad to hear it helped
