The Red Moose
Sweden
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 ธ.ค. 2022
Swedish socialist songs with English (and sometimes other) subtitles. I post socialist, communist, pro-Vietnamese, anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist songs.
Most of the songs will be from the 1960s and 1970s, when the scene around leftist music (usually called "progg") was strong in Sweden.
This is the second Red Moose account, I got locked out of my original one when my computer broke. This is the account where I will continue to post songs, so if you follow or have watched the original Red Moose you should make sure to follow this one as well.

Swedish communist music from the Carnation Revolution in Portugal [Eng subs]
Festa de liberdade 1975 is a piece of Swedish communist music from the Carnation Revolution (Revolução dos Cravos, 25 de Abril) in Portugal. It was recorded by Nynningen and tells the story of a trip the band did to the small town of Alpiarça northeast of Lisbon in September 1975, the year after the revolution started. There, they met with militant peasants who had occupied land and set up cooperatives - and apparently had parties that lasted two weeks.
Although Nynningen is one of the most well-known Swedish socialist (progg) bands from the 70s, this particular song is a bit forgotten, and as far as I coult tell it barely existed on TH-cam. That was a shame, because it's a great example of Swedish socialist music from this era and it lets Nynningen show why they were some of the most skilled musicians among the more political progg bands.
I would have liked to include some pictures from Alpiarça itself in the 70s, but couldn't find any. Instead the video shows some images from the Carnation Revolution, most of them possibly taken in Lisbon. I do like the colors of most of them at least.
On this channel, I translate Swedish socialist and communist music, most of it from the 1970s. That includes workers songs, anti-imperialist songs and songs about Vietnam and decolonization - subscribe if you want to support the channel and hear more songs!

Har kampen satt dig på kåken? (Has the Struggle Put You in Jail?) is a socialist rock song by the Swedish band Bergsbestigarna. Bolsjevikvisan (The Bolshevik Song) is a socialist folk song written by the Swedish musician and comedian Skånska Lasse (Theodor Larsson) in 1920. This version was recorded by actor and communist Sven Wollter in 2009. The mocking of anticommunists might not have been intended in the original (which probably was more of a funny song about current events at the time). But when famously communist ...

Planekonomi (Planned Economy) is a funny socialist or communist pop song by the Swedish band Lazze Ohlyz that celebrates the perks of planned economies. It was released on their album På landsvägar för kärlek och kommunism in 2007 and again on the compilation album Samma gamla goa låtar in 2010. It might seem like a communist meme song but is also quite catchy. Lazze Ohlyz plays dansband, a har...

The recording then spread over Sweden and Europe. This...

Om jag någonsin ska strida is a translation of Should I Ever Be a Soldier in Swedish, the native language of its author Joe Hill. Wow, thanks! There was a lot of great music made in this genre in Sweden so I’m just trying to showcase that.
I'm going to turn this into an unironic conservative anthem and there's nothing you can do about it He speakin fax
Always a pleasure having the Monarchist Front commenting! 😄 Go ahead, this song appealing to conservatives is kinda the whole point.
Sweden defended the Cambodians by the way. In case you are wondering and Richard Milhous Nixon was bombing the @~?£ out of the commies there so who was the good guy?
I’m guessing that by “the Cambodians” you mean Pol Pot? But in your long and thorough study of this subject you must have missed the part where it was the American bombings that helped the rise of Pol Pot, who also was supported by the CIA. So we can thank Richard Milhous Nixon for Pol Pot, which is what you wanted to say right? 😂
@@theredmoose2084 "The Politburo of the Party Central Committee issued timely instructions to our troops to work closely with our Cambodian friends to “make strong advances to the west,” to seize the initiative by striking rapidly, powerfully, continuously, and without restraint in order to, within a short period of time, create a turning point in the strategic situation that would benefit both ourselves and our Cambodian friends....In the midst of this battle our troops also helped our Cambodian friends train cadre and expand their armed forces. In just two months the armed forces of our Cambodian allies grew from ten guerrilla teams to nine battalions and 80 companies of full-time troops with a total strength of 20,000 soldiers, plus hundreds of guerrilla squads and platoons in the villages. The Cambodian revolution had taken an important step forward."-Victory in Vietnam A History of the People's Army of Vietnam, 1954-1975 (May 2002), page 256-257.

Wow! What a gem of a song. It really is a shame that so much good leftist music has been mostly forgotten.
Luckily there are a few of us here on TH-cam who are on the case, churning out songs so more people can hear them. I’m always happy to recommend some great ones, if anyone is interested!
Portuguese here, seeing this song about our revolution makes my heart swell with pride
That’s amazing, exactly the thing I want to happen with these songs that aren’t very well known. Thank you for listening!
@theredmoose2084 cheers mate! I love to see this sort of internationalism between comrades from different corners of the world. Thanks for all the music
Vay amk
Is the music used anywhere else? It seems familiar to me for some reason.
Not that I’m aware of but it’s possible! Or it might be because it’s probably imitating old showtune songs with the same sound.
Och där finns Stalin
The fact that lyrics are still so current is the best and worst part of this song
Great way of putting it!
Somliga är konservativa, somliga är trolösa ,, jag är en trolös person. Ett sort varmt tack..
If I can sneak in another suggestion: "Sången om Reaktionen" by "Röda Stjärnan". I've seen a translation floating on youtube, but it's... a bit iffy. One of my favourite songs, it is one of those where I feel like that it is about time to push back for real once more.
Yeah, I’ve had that one on my radar for a while. But around the time I was actually gonna start on it, another channel put up a translation that took off with views so it felt like a bad timing. Thanks for thinking I would do it better than them though!
Thank you, this is a great find.
Thanks! I’ve been wanting to do it for a while since it isn’t very well known.
Its saddening how timeless this is. Fan
Conservatives gonna conservative. But at least we got a catchy song out of it!
The saddest part is that conservatives really believe that kind of stuff without much exaggeration.
"The world has completely degenerated! We must go back to the old ways" is probably written in a cave painting somewhere.
Vilken jävla banger
Helt klart! Lagar skrivs av makten och makten kan ha fel!

It’s so good, all credit to Bergsbestigarna for making it (and a little bit to me for translating 😉)
Låt oss skriva ny lag för alla kamrater...häng resten =)

Verkligen!
This song combines nostalgia and inspiration in a way very few have managed. Perhaps you could upload some songs by Ebba Grön?

Bibi is a loudmouth because the money keeps pouring in, he knows a free Palestine will be his doom

I am astonished how do you keep finding these unknown gems! I love both the tune of it, and the message it conveys! By the way, do you have plans for releasing Greppet Hårdnar from Knutna Nävar? Theres an english translation video from a while back, but the translation is kinda iffy...
You’re too kind, I’m just happy there was so much good music released during this era so it’s possible to find these gems. Greppet hårdnar is a great suggestion, thank you for that! I’ll add it to the list.

I agree, it’s really a hidden gem among the Swedish socialist songs!
