Chasing Mackerel in KINGSCLIFF - Offshore Kayak Fishing Australia
Switched things up and did our first session in Kingscliff for this season. Palmy is probably more productive this time of the year but we got the job done. Also encountered (I believe) my first serious shark and somehow managed to talk a mackerel into biting (it listened). Thanks for watching!

EPIC Session in PRISTINE Conditions - Offshore Kayak Fishing (Spanish + Spotted mackerel)
มุมมอง 98121 วันที่ผ่านมา
Two weeks of catching 10 sharks to every 1 mackerel left us a bit disheartened. This session turned it all around. We'd had a bit of bad weather but with S winds to push the warmer water in. As it happens the mackerel came with it! Sorry to Garmin for calling out your support/warranty. I think it can improve and I want to let people know how to adress the issues with a beautiful Sistema box. By...

The 2024 season just keeps getting better! Still heaps of spotties hanging around, and among those something very special. A glorious day, back on Palm Beach reef as QLD ends the seasonal closure for Spanish Mackerel. Was doing a quick bait check, when suddenly my bait got smashed on the surface! Nice one matey !
Can you do this again, it was a great video
Gonna try every week 👍🏻 Thanks!
Really loved your fishing video. Please keep them coming.👏👏👍👍
Thank you! Will do :)
Loved your videos. Wish can fish in your water right now… since it is too cold in Texas coast here. We only have king mackerels in the summer. One small advice, after you opened the bail of your reel then it is best to put the rod to the holder on the same side that you landed the fish… because if the fish flopping out of your kayak then the line won’t cut you. Tight line.👍👍👏👏🙌🙌
Thanks mate. So Texas gets cold? I thought it was always pretty warm there. Will keep that in mind, hopefully they're quite secure in the hatch.
Thanks for sharing, is it safe to go out on your own or do you need company ?
My pleasure, thanks for watching. Hmm, probably not that safe to go on your own. I do it a lot but also have 20 years experience in the surf and 40 years fishing. All kinds of stuff can go wrong out there. Good luck!
Happens to my sounder aswell, scrub the pins with white vinegar and tooth brush works everytime for me
Part of my problem is that I leave it plugged in. However with the box I haven't had to do anything and haven't had any corrosion for a year. :)
Spray your sounder pins with lanox to stop the corrosion.
Thanks mate. Gonna remember that, sounds like a good trick. The way I treat my poor sounder I'm kinda happy I've got the box closing it in completely. Haven't had to do anything to it for a year and it's still alive.
Absolute beast
Yeah when you showed up to finish continue making more great videos
What is your favorite beat you out kayaking in the ocean or which way would you recommend to use or what is allure the white jigs or how to fish and If you can show a step-by-step everything you do up there you look amazing keep doing it man I love it 😊😊😊❤❤
Thanks man! I'll have to get to work on that website to get all that info out. Otherwise the info is all hidden away in the previous videos. 👍🏻
Hey bro watching you fish out there in the ocean with the kayak no fear whatsoever that’s cool man very cool
good video
Another great vid Eric, well done on catching "blind". btw, I've had great use out of my Garmins. Sometimes I've had some probs, usually it's the power cable turning black or like you said, corrosion on the pins. The other day it was giiving me super high water temperatures for winter, like about 38C, and the water only gets up to 32 here in summer (out the back). I gave the pins a scrub and lubed them up with dielectric grease and problem sorted. Have a good Chrimbo if you don't get any more vids out before then.
Thanks Owen! I've tried the electric lube and also to silicone the whole thing up. Each solution has ended the same way until I started using the box. I think I just put the poor sounders through too much grief. :-) Merry Christmas!
Great video nice catch of fish 🙂🐟👍
Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing video excellent! What is your rod/reel/line set up ? Looks heavy
Thanks mate. All rod setup are in the description but I use 30lb braid, 50lb mono leader, and around 5500 reels.
Nice video brother! Amazing fish. Keep up the great work. Fish on 🤙🎣
Thanks mate 🙏🏼 🤙🏼
Nice work 👏
Thank you!
Nice 👍 …enjoying the vids some of the most informative Spanish mackerel kayak trolling advice on TH-cam 🙌 keep up the great work… I have a couple of questions if you get chance to answer… how tight do you set your reel drag for trolling, and how much line do you have out on each rod? Cheers 👍
Thanks mate. With all the down votes I'm getting it's really nice to hear that! My drags are really loose, I can basically pull the line out with just my finger tips. However, not so loose that it's almost freespooled. On the left rod I do about 45m and the right 35m. Good luck out there!
Nice work mate. What size ssv you running?
Thanks! My reels are Spinfisher VI's but I run 4500, 5500, and 6500. I reckon 5500 is best.
@ yeah I just got the 4500 VII yet to use it but it feels solid enough. Well priced too.
good job 🤙
Awesome!!
🙏🏼
What swell conditions were you in?
Not too sure to be honest. I'm guessing around 1.2m E and 6 sec period.
Nice one matey. Good gaff shot on that 2nd spotty!
Haha thanks, that guy was a lot more tired than the 3rd spotty which wouldn't stop
Nice one Riko. Where there is a remora there is a big shark.
Thanks mate. Remoras are funny creatures. I reckon they just hitch a ride for a while then drop off at a productive reef, before jumping on the next host.
I need to learn to migrate - follow the mackerel season. Started using a spike this yr beat fooling with a knife if you hit them right - good day good feed, cheers man -
I was surprised how good it was. A magnitude better than doing it with a knife. Haha yeah migrating with the mackerel would be awesome!
Welcome back mate! How was Canada? Good to have you back. The entertainment is on!
Thanks mate! Canada was great, but glad to be back. Harder to get decent fish over there.

Glad see ya back at it!
Thanks! Will try to keep em coming
Welcome back bruv! cant believe its been 5+ months already! nice catch

Well done mate
Thank you sir ☺

Great fishing mate
Thank you 🙏🏼
Halfway through your video I finally realized the title was not “Big Smurf Alone”.
Haha, I'll have to update it
Great catch mate!
Happy days Eric, well done. A lot fish to eat before you go to Canada. See you in November.
Thanks! See you in November :)
Dude, nice fish. Would love to see some videos of fly fishing in Canada.
Thank you 🙏🏼 I will try my best to get a vid out from there. Better set up this time, just gotta get on the water.
Good fish mate. You’re allowed 5 Spanish or spotties and any combination of both not totalling more than 5. Unfortunately if you’re taking them back to qld their possession limits apply. ie 1 only.
Thanks! Hmm, if I'm driving back to QLD, on land, it must be ok right? I also heard there's a possession limit for what you're allowed to keep at home, but haven't found any references.
@@r1ko yep that’s right. The possession limit includes what you have at home. Pretty silly rules. I actually contacted fisheries and asked them. Now fishing nsw in a qld closure is another can of worms.
Thanks for your gorgeous video, I always try to catch a Spanish Mackerel in Kingscliff, but I never caught one. Now I learned a lot from you video and I think I can catch one in the end of this season.
Thank you 🙏🏼 Good luck, still a few out there 😊
Nice one Eric. These seasons seem to come round way too fast. Wish I could escape for a long time like you - Okinawa will be like living in a very hot sauna from July to September - almost too hot to fish, but I will sneak back to Wales in August for ten days of glorious cool weather and tasty beer! Have fun in Canada, will be waiting for your next fishing vids to drop.
Thanks Owen! Sounds nice with a steamy summer I have to say. Hope to visit one day. Have fun in Wales. Not NSW right?
@@r1ko Yep, Old South Wales for me!
hi..where is thisi. I see that hill/bluff in the background in so so many kayak vids, but I cant place it (Im nth side Bris)
Hey mate. It's Palm Beach reef on the Gold Coast.
@@r1ko thank you
hey mate hectic video where is this at i got a kayak never beach launched but a bit sus about it what rig did you use and did you have a specific target in mind?
Thanks mate. It's at Palm Beach reef, which is where I fish most of the time. I've got a link to the deadbait rig I use in the description. Definitely had Spanish mackerel as the target species, but we catch all kinds of mackerel on it and tuna as well.
Big hug brother here from Brazil, my dream is to have a kayak like this🚣🏿♂️🚣🏿♂️🚣🏿♂️🚣🏿♂️🚣🏿♂️🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I hope one day soon you get it! It's a great kayak. Do you have similar conditions where you fish in Brazil?
@@r1ko exactly that here we have great fishing conditions, I hope that one day we can fish together
Nice work
Thanks mate 😊
That was a monster
Awesome !!
Thanks mate! 🥳 See you Thursday
Well done brother! Cracker fish! Better then I did that morning lol
ANOTHER epic video! Wow what a bus man - good job. That boaty was really kind - from Sunny South Africa 🇿🇦
Thanks! Yeah that guy was a legend. Glad his hook didn't end up in my leg. :)
Solid fish man. what was the weight? looks nearly 20kgs
I didn't measure or weigh it 😬 Above 10 at least.
@@r1ko well fantastic fish never the less. Looked solid.
Thanks 😁
Great fish Eric, you'll be eating well for a while with that!
Ooo yeah. Thanks mate!
