Erin and I returned to one of my favorite cities in the world in May '24, and if you're ever in Amsterdam, you must see it from the canals that wind through the city! If you're excited to visit and you're thinking of taking a canal cruise, or you miss the city like I often do, maybe watching this will help! Thanks for watching! Thanks to Friendship Cruises Amsterdam for a great time: tinyurl.co...

    Brendan hi I’d like to know what year is your RAV4? I have a 2023 do you think that has incandescent or LED lighting on the 2023 RAV4?

    • @brendansoutdoors377
      @brendansoutdoors377 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey George, thanks for watching! My Rav is a 2020. A 2023 Rav4 is going to have LED “room lights” as Toyota calls them and door switches-they figured out that people want interior LED’s after the 2022 model year, I think. I can’t speak to their temperature or brightness though. Hope that helps!

    Hi just can’t get enough of your videos thank you. I do need you help on two matters. 1. What are the details of the usb charger that fits the blank in the dash board please. 2. Please note there are many differences / changes to the2023 hybrid RAV4 . I cannot get help even from Toyota in Australia. I want to access the cargolight in the rear of the cabin and no one can advise on how to remove it , to install lights on rear hatch door. Please reply Thank you again Ed.

    • @brendansoutdoors377
      @brendansoutdoors377 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Ed, thanks for watching. To answer your questions: 1. I'm a bit confused as I don't think I mentioned anything about a usb charger that fits in any of the blank panel switches. I mentioned a wireless Carplay adapter. Perhaps you're talking about that, or maybe you meant to leave this comment on another video? 2. I'm aware that some of these changes/upgrades such as interior LED lighting, wireless carplay, etc. don't apply to newer model year Rav4's (post '21) as Toyota went ahead and made those changes as standard OEM equipment in later model years. I can tell you that in order to get to the light in the cargo area to change the bulb I had to remove the fixture with a plastic trim removal tool, which pops out the whole assembly. You can use a screwdriver too, or even a credit card, just pop it in behind one of the corners of the light until the thing pops out. I haven't done the lights-on-the-rear-hatch-door upgrade yet, but here are the links for several rather complete walkthroughs of what it is I think you're getting at: th-cam.com/video/uckafuPauB8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RAacxyOAOCLQ01_m th-cam.com/video/53hdjNpJ3O8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-DYwsa3kqLqDw15M

      They’re actually really easy to install! You just use the included pry tool to open all the lighting fixtures and switch out the original bulbs. I enjoy your videos, some good suggestions. I've already done some of the mods like swapping out interior lights for LEDs, and the center console organizer. I know it's a matter of taste but man I hate the black out emblems lol. I know a lot of people like them, they look like cheap rubber to me vs. shiny metal. Just doesn't do it for me but to each his own. I have a RAV4 Prime so it's interesting to see some of the TRD differences. Oh, I have the window visors too, I think they're great and I can't believe how they've held up. They were totally worth every penny. Your type are interesting, I got the stick on ones but I like yours too.

      I usually prefer a warmer light temperature for my environments, but as they're not constantly on while I'm using the car like they would be in an office or a Walmart, and their main reason for existing is so that I can actually see things for the brief moments that they're on in the car, I'll take the upgrade in functionality from the factory-installed incandescent bulbs. They also make replacements in warmer colors, or in whatever color you like: amzn.to/3GzgMkb

      I would recommend at least the 500 watt version (amzn.to/3Yr4suk). You can plug the Jackery into the car so that it will charge while the car is on and then plug exterior electronics like a fridge/freezer or fan into the Jackery to run them while the car is off. If you plan on being stationary in one spot while camping or out for more than a couple days I would also recommend their SolarSaga 100w solar panel (amzn.to/3qtdRVI) to keep your battery topped up and operational while using your fridge/other electronics while your car is off.

    Nice set up bro. I just got a RAV4 Prime and it’s getting wrapped up in PPF and tinted. I love your roofrack. Nicely done. I havea panaramic moonroof so I’m considering how I’ll set up my roof rack without ruining the great view.

    • @brendansoutdoors377
      @brendansoutdoors377 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prime? That's sick. That mileage range/fuel economy would certainly come in handy on road trips. Are you getting it wrapped in any alternate color or just PPF? I'd get my windows tinted but I live in SF and i'm paranoid that as soon as I tint them some dingus will just smash my window in. Yeah the pano roof is great until you want to use your roof for storage. I guess you have to think about what you're trying to store up there--it probably has a lower load capacity than the standard roof model. Maybe a hitch rack wouldn't be a bad idea to consider as well? I've been thinking about putting a hitch on my Rav for a while now just for the additional capacity--maybe move the bike racks? Or add a storage box/kitchen/spare tire carrier? My wishlist of pending modifications/accessories is: 1) full size spare tire 2) 2" lift 3) upgrade springs to decrease sag when loaded with gear/improve ride quality on rougher dirt roads 4)more internal organization 5) upgrade fog lights 6) sound deadening material install in the doors and ceiling

    New subbie friend! My, now husband, and I hiked the southern portion of LCT and also stayed at Mattole up north during the fires in 2021. This was a Beautiful video! We are planning to stay at the Inn now. The Lupin and fog ans beach shots were breathtaking. My favorite, was your pup....I teared up at the end to see the sad dedication.....what a life that sweet doggy friend had!!❤❤ You spoiled him.

      Yeah I highly recommend the Inn if you're looking for a nice lil getaway on the Lost Coast that doesn't involve roughing it. Thanks for watching all the way to the end! Fred was the best boy, and although his life was short and ended sadly, it was full of adventure and love and he brought me and everyone around him so much joy. I miss him constantly, even with my new pup Doug around the house 🥹

    If you live in San Francisco you should weigh in about catalytic converter shields.

      I mean, it's clearly a problem--although I don't know anyone personally who has had their cat lifted. If anything it seems like unbreakable glass would be the better upgrade for cars in the Bay Area.

    Thanks for the vid! I have the same TRD RAV4. I bought one of the ARB awnings and never got to use it. It doesn’t come with any hardware or brackets. You also need a aftermarket roof rack for it (for the RAV4 anyways). The way the rails curve don’t allow for the ARB to be attached very easily. It was a huge hassle. After a year of trying to figure out a way for it to work I gave up. I ended up selling and losing a ton of money. Definitely going for your option. Thanks for the info. 🙌🏽

      Glad I could help! I found the original crossbars that came with the vehicle to be lacking in capacity, very noisy, and kinda funny looking. If you check out my video "8 more Easy 5th gen Rav4 upgrades"(th-cam.com/video/MKGsJ3R3HKQ/w-d-xo.html) I actually ended up getting aftermarket cross bars and a roof rack from Yakima and adding attachment points for a potential ARB-style awning, but I haven't pulled the trigger on purchasing one of those yet. I actually just used the KingCamp on an excursion in Tennessee and it was really handy being able to pack the KingCamp in a checked bag on the airplane and then add it to the rented UHaul van I used to go exploring and give me shade under the hot-ass Tennessee sun. One of the advantages of not having the awning attached to the car at all times is that you can move it from vehicle to vehicle!

      Most of the trail/dirt road exploring near the Bay that I’ve found involves a bit of a drive-it’s one of the reasons I went with the Rav over a 4Runner. I couldn’t justify the gas mileage when the amount of driving/gas consumption just to go get dirty is so high, and I’m not really rock-crawling anything, just exploring forest roads, mostly. There’s an OHV area just north of Lake Berryessa in Napa that’s small but fun to explore/camp overnight. Mendocino National Forest up near Clearlake is pretty and a relatively short drive, and I love Old Coast Road and the roads up in the mountains above Big Sur when they’re not closed due to fires/erosion. Just a couple that come to mind. Check out some of the other videos on the channel if you haven’t already-I have a couple other videos focused less on gear and more on places and adventures. Thanks for watching!

    The part about the roof rack was very interesting. All the roof rack videos I’ve seen have just been about installation

      @brendansoutdoors377 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I wasn’t making videos when I installed it or else I probably would have made that content too! It’s relatively easy to take off and put on though, plus you can lock it to the crossbars and I don’t have a garage, so I just leave it up there.

    Do you know when and if they unlock that gate past Usal beach?

    • @brendansoutdoors377
      @brendansoutdoors377 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I was there last in June of ‘21 the gate beyond the beach was unlocked. I’m pretty sure it’s a call made by the local sheriffs department, and is usually open June-September depending on their discretion. I’ve also found this website helpful: www.mendocinocounty.org/government/transportation/road-closures when planning a trip around those parts.

    I am a local from Mendocino County. I and a small cadre of 60 something buddies hiked the entire length of the Lost Coast (Mattole to Usal) a few years ago. We did it over two trips. I have been camping at Usal since the late 1960's. It has always had somewhat of a yahoo factor given its remoteness yet fairly easy access. Unfortunately, it has gotten much worse over the last couple of decades. That burn scar that you pictured was caused by yahoos shooting off fireworks on Usal beach during the dry season. My wife and a group of ladies from her book club went there a decade ago for a camping trip only to encounter a dog fighting ring there to ply their sport. Thankfully it was broken up by long line of sheriff deputies and Fish & Game agents. I could go on with other stories but needless to say, we don't camp at Usal anymore, I certainly would only recommend going there during weekdays in the off peak season.

      Damn dude, just having 60 people on that trail simultaneously must've been quite the sight! My girlfriend and I returned to Usal in the last week (Mon-Weds) of June of '22, just over a year after we did this trip in the video in May of '21, and I hadn't thought about how, even the week BEFORE the fourth of July that people would be there to do some dumb shit. The yahoo factor had increased exponentially since we had been there last. There was one dude just mashing a big 'ole Dodge around chaining logs of driftwood to it and dragging them around the beach and the inlet to the forest just off the beach. When asked he said it was for a "big ass bonfire for the Fourth," which at that point was still 5 days away, so these folks were either living there or just gonna be there for a while. The yahoo factor had increased SO greatly, in fact, that some dingus lit off fireworks on the beach on the Wednesday night and started a brushfire while we were there, forcing the arrival of several gigantic off-road fire trucks and some very grumpy firemen and rangers. We were both pretty shook by it, and haven't been back since, which is a shame cause it's so beautiful there. Reaaaaallly glad we didn't run into a dogfighting ring, jesus christ....
