Resetting the Clock: 2004 Land Rover Discovery 2

We've been away a while! We took on a somewhat big project with the Disco, and honestly it is taking forever to edit the footage that we took down to watchable chunks. Anyway, here's a quick one until we get caught up. The clock on the Disco has been wrong since we disconnected the battery to replace the radiator. We hadn't taken the time to research how to reset it, but asked for suggestions f...

Our 2004 Land Rover Discovery 2 Goes Through State Vehicle Inspection - Will It Pass?
Привет , я тоже пытался нажать всю кнопку , но потом понял что нужно нажимать в эту дырочку иголкой. Я так и не понял как перевести часы в формат 24 ? Или они не имеют такой возможности ?
had to redo my pan for 3 times and now and it still keeps leaking. driving me insane. i put new 5 of those support blocks but reused the gasket. This time Ill change the gasket and see if it will leak again
just went thru this with my son's 2000 land rover discovery 2. definite snap when each of the bolts broke free...a bit nerve wracking for sure. but they all came out. cleaned up like new.
I had an OEM 180F thermostat installed by a mechanic, but ever since, my scangauge shows it hitting higher numbers than the previous thermostat, which is around 210-220. It was bled/burped properly as far as I know. I cant seem to figure out why it would be running hotter now. Any thoughts? Does my scangauge need to be reset or something?
Colour was brown, but the oil was way too thick as well! Thanks for doing the vid. Cheers from Oz

good video.... always use some quality solder flux if you struggle with soldering... it removes the oxidation form the metal and makes the solder "wet" the metal and suck into those exposed bits... like a film. I use the ordinary paste type, but also have a flux pen in the fridge for PCB work. If you ever took off the ABS module, you can get that bolt out you broke the head off on, simply use a sharp nail and a hammer to hit it on the side so it rotates the stuck little neck
I changed my lead acid battery to an agm battery and all the lights went out???
Ошибки сбросились пока ты менял аккумулятор
Hi..Glenn in AZ. How is the thermostat mod working.. ? Cracked 2-89.00 plastic thermostats here in hot AZ. Have replaced all hose connections with the Aluminum ones & Aluminum overflow tank. I also replaced the old heater plate with a “brass one” from Falcon Works in TUSCON, AZ. Great video & nice family. All the best!! 🤙🏻 🌵
What was the point of the heatshrink when you left the solder joints uncovered!
These lights are blinding too coming traffic too bright nobody thinks how the opposite direction of traffic feels ifthey cannot see the road im a truck driver who hates to drive at night because of these lights that looks like their high beams on add fog lights that are bright light this an accident waiting to happen
Does it matter which wire is earth???
That hose to the bottom of reservoir do we need that. Mine broke off and I'm trying to epoxy it til new tank arrives note really feeling to upgrade to aluminum reservoir yet. As my headgasket blew too. Definitely "Disco Life".
Hi, did you end up replacing the high beam?
The bolts are beam adjusters only and need not be removed. Didn’t you do your homework? 🙈😱🤷♂️🙅♂️
Thanks for this post, this inspired me to do the same. I had to be creative to tuck the module into a safe spot, but these are as close to plug and play as it gets!
i love how you get your kiddos involved, they will learn tons and will never forget the experience. greta dad stuff, i got a D2 because i like them but also to bond with my kiddos.
The more you work with maintenance you will invest in a set of Irwin bolt extractors and a set of grip tite bolt removers. Soak it some more with some PB and invest in a induction coil heater. I can’t figure how in the world that one is on that tight. Best of luck fellow rover owner😊
Interesting…. But honestly your camera work is awful… not clear, cap peak in the way …etc etc
He is not explaining anything
What’s the benefit to doing this? And are there any drawbacks?
a much harder job to get the modulator out of a Td5 defender, having to do it twice in 8 years
Hi from a fellow Disco 2 2004 owner in Norway(Lofoten). Im sure you already got your driver license already. But if not you should put on the "L" and get some of your new friends to assist you in driving in Norway before taking the test. Also be aware that we use a lot of salt on the roads in norway, so rust is a major problem on these "oldtimers". Especially at the rear end on the frame. So please carefully look out for that. Myself as this point is actually doing rust repairs on the frame at the rear endbof my D2 2004, which is daunting if your new to welding. Also if you come by a D2 without sunroof(rear)that would be nice to avoid the common leaks. Hope you enjoy Norway! Cheers
Try reving the engine with the leak detector on.
The inline thermostat is so simply great and the funny thing is is really it's just a traditional thermostat even the Rover V8 when it was carbureted had one up on top. So my problem with the original three-way design is number one the bypass is way too big when really it could have just been a small metal hose coming off the water pump and not getting involved the way it does with the entire cooling system and number 2 my biggest issue is that why would they place the thermostat Downstream of the radiator? Shouldn't the thermostat be reading the temperature of the water as it comes out of the engine to make its determination on opening and not after it's been cooled from the radiator? And let's go back to that bypass let's say theoretically it closes all the way but now you have water being pushed down a hose that is leading nowhere and needing to just sit there and slowly do a U-turn and go down the other hose to the radiator. And again if the radiator cools the water down why would you send it to a thermostat after it's been cool that's like putting the air conditioning thermostat of your house right next to an air vent register to blow on it and make it think your whole house is cool
Hey! About to install the inline system myself, just curious how you bled the system?
Get a good Td5 take some body that knows them with you
Ahhhh yes! I was hoping your Discovery didn't catastrophically break beyond repair and that you had maybe given up on it. Glad to hear it's still on the road. And as another commenter has mentioned, the TD5 (Turbo Diesel Inline-5cyl) is a much better configuration that can run 200K-300K+, sometimes even 400K miles over the notorious "Rover V8" that's sketchy the closer it gets to 100K miles. You may also find that earlier European spec Land Rovers, of any sort, are fitted with a manual transmission, unlike their North America automatic transmission counterparts. A diesel with a manual transmission is actually pretty desirable in the US as they are hard to find. Looking forward to seeing your next project!
You should be able to find a td5 disco over in Norway. Much better engine
There is also another grease joint down inside the Double Cardan joint for the Swivel ball. You MUST grease this one often and usually requires to drop the driveshaft to do so.
Interesting. I had not seen anything about that before. Time to crawl under the truck I think...
@@DiscoLife04 Usually it's a Female Zerk fitting, you will need an adapter to grease it from a normal gun. Sometimes you can get to them, sometimes you have to remove DS from the TC to clock it over to have access.
Hi i just did this hack and they came back right front sensor so it doesn't work
Sorry to hear that. It worked for my application, but it is not the only solution to fixing the amigos. Sometimes there are other wiring issues not connected to the shuttle valve assembly that need to be sorted. Were you able to resolve them?
So you watched a video and then copied that video and stuffed half the steps up, thanks for wasting my time.
Dude use a 3/8 ratchet with no uni, double your direct torque on that bolt.
thanks, I will do it
You could double up in one side of the crimp and use a proper crimper
yep. i needed proper crimpers for sure. Learning as I go.
Who transmission fluid use for change ???
Hey, It's been a while since your last upload. Is everything OK?
Wondering that myself !
Hey! Yes things are good with us. We had a major change in our lives that took time to sort out (all good I assure you!). We should start posting again soon, with some dramatically different backgrounds.
Do you have to bleed coolant after install ?
Not if you oriented the thermostat correctly with the bleed hole at the top. This was the best $100 I've spent on my D2. Took me from the low 200's to the low to mid 180's. Essentially now runs about 100 degrees over ambient air temps. AlanM is a little off on his D2 cooling advice. Sounds like he probably knows a lot about D1's though. The D2's bypass circuit, which is removed in this inline mod, causes the engine to run hotter than it needs to...
How are these holding up?
You’d also want to get a decent head for your grease gun, been there, done that 😊
100.000 Miles??? Eu spec manual says 40.000km (be like 28000 miles or so?)
That was my knowledge at the time. You are more accurate though. I believe it should be 30 to 50,000 miles with more often being better for obvious reasons.
Thank you!! I kept trying to push the entire button as well.
Glad I could help!
You gave yourself a lot of extra work but you finally got it done. Live and learn? Good job on the video.
That I did. I tend to do that the first time around, but as you say, Live and Learn.
Hi i absolutely love your videos, can you do one doing a coolant drain and refill?
how did you bleed your coolant system after install? I'm struggling with getting all the air out of the system.
took far to long to get to any hlpful content. I'm not interested in vicarious experiences I just want to go directly to the info.
Hello, thanks for video. My Freelander 2.0 di 2000 model has got shuttle valve switch electrical failure. TC and ABS warning lighr showing. Can ı do your method on my car for this problem. Thank u.
I would do some research on that as I am not overly familiar with the freelanders. I think it should work, but I am not positive.
I got my 04 in 2012 rebuilt the engine put in 180 thermostat I think I had a back pressure failure so assuming the thermostat finally is failing only happened 1x at a drive thru. I heard about inline. Spent the last few days searching inline videos. Found 2. Since being an owner I have replaced muffler more than anything else they rust and break off at the flange between muf/tail pipe silencer. The first few rime the tailpipe falloff and got lost. This time it hung up so I still have it to reattach. I run obd2 elm with torque app to keep track of temp and been flawless for 10 years. So 10 years I think not bad. So looks like next is I line for me. I run distilled only from April to September and 70/30 green coolant/distilled for winter. My hoses are still in excellent condition just a choice I did to slow wear on hoses. I don't have any oil leaks since my rebuild. But its time to do the valve cover gaskets and new bolts as I noticed the outer bolts are starting to loosen on their own now so prevention time. My magnecor 8mm holding up well. Don't wanna do the coil pack ever again. Note on the 2nd AI. The pump hose gets brittle and cracks.
Hi i have freelander 1 td4 2004 model with the same problem (3 amigos) can this be the the cause of check engine light going on and car going into limp mode
I have not heard of it doing that before. Hopefully you were able to get it sorted.
Nice It's thanks for making the effort to share
