Developing Ideal Idle Incremental Game
Ukraine
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 พ.ค. 2023
I'm a Unity game developer with a passion for idle incrementals. My focus is on creating engaging games that are fun to play.
With some experience in developing flash games, including the highly successful idle clicker Get a Little Gold, which garnered over 2 million plays on Kongregate, I've now shifted my focus to mobile games. My first mobile game, Orczz, is already available on both iOS and Android, and I'm currently working on expanding its content and refining its gameplay.
In addition, I'm planning to port Get a Little Gold to Unity and create a mobile version of it in the near future.
Through this TH-cam channel, I aim to share my development experiences and the challenges I encounter along the way. As a non-native English speaker, I also hope to improve my fluency in English by creating content for this channel.
If you're interested in following my game development journey and learning more about the games I'm creating, please subscribe to my channel!

Celebrating 1000 Subscribers, Facing Tough Life Decisions
Nearly a year ago, I recorded a video celebrating 100 subscribers, and today, I'm here to celebrate 1,000 with you. This past year has been filled with growth, especially in learning English (my non-native language). One of my biggest challenges has been speaking unscripted, which makes me sound more natural. This video marks my first attempt without a script, and I’d love your feedback! Should I keep trying this format, or stick to the scripted approach?
I also wanted to touch on a personal topic: the possibility of moving abroad due to the russian invasion of Ukraine. The forest, where I filmed this video, has been my peaceful escape, and I might soon be saying goodbye to it, my home, and everything familiar in Kyiv.
If you've been following my game development journey on "Get a Little Gold," I hope you find value in getting to know me a bit more. Thank you for being part of this journey, and please share your thoughts in the comments.

will you ever put a pc version on steam? i loved playing this years ago
Hmm, I would say that there's 3 important elements for good incremental game: a) visible short-term goals, completing which provides b) unlocks that either narrative (such as storyline, visual changes) or mechanical unlocks that give player c) choice how to build his strategy for achieving his a) goals. This creates a game loop with positive loop feedback that pulls player into itself. Allmost all games that are frequently suggested in Reddit have this. May be I overthink it from the position of core/hardcore player, but we absolutely can agree that *quack* sound is must have

I know you don't like living your motherland But for your family's safety please move to a safe place I hope your game's make a great amount of money 💟
First off, as one of those Americans who only knows English :) let me say that your English is excellent, much better than you give yourself credit for. I've loved following your channel and honestly I have no interest in making incremental games...but I love your approach to talking about them and I feel I've learned a lot from what you share. I really hope everything works out well for you and your family....and really for your whole country (my family actually left Ukraine shortly before World War One)...hopefully even with the change in leadership coming here, my country will continue to support yours. Stay safe!!
Thank you for these kind words; I really need them right now. America has done a lot for Ukraine, so I can only express my gratitude for your support. And I really happy you like the channel.
Your English is great! Just prepare an outline ahead of time and tape it below your phone on your selfie stick. Good luck with the international move!!!
Thank you. That’s exactly what I usually do: prepare the script and read it. But I wanted to try something different by speaking without a script, as I feel it helps me sound more natural and authentic.
@IdealIdleIncremental an outline and a script are very different. An outline is like improv... just prepare the prompts and then your talking will sound natural but have a nice arc to it!
@@zejugames5045 Oh, looks like I just didn’t get what you meant. I’ll definitely try this.
@IdealIdleIncremental there's a video called "How Curb Your Enthusiasm works without a script". The section after 2:45 talks about outlines vs scripts... it's a great model for speaking naturally, I think!
@@zejugames5045 thanks, I'll definitely watch it

Thanks for the tour of the forest and personal update. The forest is beautiful! It's sad but understandable as to why you'd want to leave. I hope everything works out for the best for you and your family. 🙏 And regarding your English, you're better than you think. I have never had to rewind any of your videos or turn on subtitles.
Thank you very much. You’re very kind. I’m doing everything I can to improve my English, and I’m glad that you find it understandable.
Hey, if or when you will be abroad and somehow appear to be in Poland - let me know if I can help you in any way. Stay safe and God bless! P.S. I know what you feel right now and I've been through of it some time ago, I didn't want to leave my motherland and especially my lovely Kharkiv but it's what it's - I didn't want to risk my kids.
I’m sorry to hear that you had to move - I hope you’re doing well. I completely agree that family is the most valuable part of our lives. When it comes to Poland, it seems that for Ukrainians, Warsaw has become a central hub no matter where we go. I really appreciate your support.

I'm doing my best to finish it ASAP. I still have a few systems to complete before I'm ready to release it. Hopefully, it'll be ready in 3-4 months if everything goes as planned.
I'm not a native English speaker either, so I can relate. I published videos, only to remove them days later because they didn't sound or feel right. I don't think our accent is an impediment (at least not to most people), it's our delivery that can be an issue. I can't speak for you, but my sense of humor and overall personality don't come across as well in English. That is why I have to read from a script, which can be done right, but for me oftentimes sounds stilted. But all of the above are things that can improve with consistency and being in front of a camera more often (advice I should definitely follow myself). You're doing ok in that regard, so I'm sure your videos will improve. Good luck!
I can completely relate to the part about how your sense of humor and overall personality don’t come across as well in English. I often feel less intelligent and sophisticated in English than I do in my native language, but I hope this will improve with time and practice.
8500h, 16 100h, 7 500h .... damn you are crazy
tbh i'm more drawn to its sense of humor
Yeah, humor is definitely one of its strong sides!
Check out problem sleuth, homestuck might be 50/50 and it's insanely long but problem sleuth is incredibly close in humor and is hilarious. Even funnier when you realize the characters actions were determined via viewer polls between panels.
This is just an opinion, but I think it will be more interesting if the level limit of HERO special and Hero multiplier is increased from 5 to 10. Some people have already purchased 13500 gold pans. I think that the challenge should be increased more and more.
That's fair. I'll probably add more levels after the release, but for now, I'm focused on finishing the mobile version of the game and getting it published as soon as possible.
so you recomend learning unity for iddle games?, im 38 years old, never programed anything in my life,i would like to try to make something easy before i die,
I like Unity the most because it has everything you need to create games of any kind and port them to almost any platform. However, the concept of idle games is quite simple, so you can use virtually any game engine to make them. If you have no prior experience, it doesn't really matter which one you choose. Unity is probably a good choice because it has a large community and the most extensive library of quality tutorials I've ever seen.
personally the accent isn't as important as the content but some accents I just can't listen to for long times
I play your game 7 year ago on pc thx ❤❤❤❤
You are welcome! I hope you'll give it a try once it's out on mobile.
@@IdealIdleIncremental were i can play it ?
@@nathanweissenburger9577 It's not released yet, but I hope to finish the Unity version and release it soon. Unfortunately, the Flash version that used to be playable on Kongregate is no longer functional.
1. since deprecating Built-in render pipelines Im looking forward to see what's gonna happen with the state of the assets store. 2. I found 5 or more good tutorials for godot creating a game from scratch or using public assets, unity has only 1 3d platformer with the version 2022 or bunch of paid on udemy. 3. Look at the Road to Vostok, it's just matter of good assets. Unreal gives great lighting technology, unity6 will do as well, but not unity 5. 4. if you need to "learn" lang it's sad. in my case after python I just start writing. same I can say on c#, lang is invented only for windows by microsoft. 5. no support on consoles is 100% valid point, but solvable with caveats.
Your game sucks on kongregate when you browse internet and go to different tab game automaticalyy goes to pause mode dude that is fucked up thanks but I'm not touching this garbage.

I havent tracked my hours but I set a limit time to complete my game (12 months), as I still dont have a game that I could live of and still working 40hs per week as game dev making idles too. In the process. I struggle the most with balancing the progress of the game and new things that I couldnt find a clear reference to start with, like a little invest-stock system that I didnt wanted to make so complicated.
I watched a couple of videos on your channel about your game Super Burger Clicker and wish you the very best luck with your endeavour.
Awesome vid, super useful!
Big fan of your channel, this past week I took part in a game jam; and it's the first game I've made. The jam's theme is "cycles" and I made an idle game that is based on orbits of planets, moons, and satellites - I added as many cycles as I could. I have a video playing through the game start to finish on my channel (it's called "Orbital Incremental"), about 40 minutes (I don't know if I can post links in the comments). You start off with Mercury, you upgrade that and earn enough for Venus, same to Earth. Once you unlock Earth you start to earn science for every Earth, moon, and satellite orbit. Moons and satellites are functionally identical (satellites orbit 25% faster) except moons are bought with money ("stardust") and are limited in number, and satellites are bought with science and have a wait time to build and launch. Every time a satellite (natural and artificial) orbits they earn science but also they earn the planet they orbit a permanent money multiplier bonus. While earning money you can "go supernova" destroying the solar system and earning black holes, each black hole provides a +5% bonus to money/stardust and science. I had a huge amount of fun making it, but I especially had fun figuring out the maths to make the prices perfect. Additionally it has music where layers get added as you buy more planets. I'm not a musician and only found out with a short time left that my game should have music and it's a little busy but I do like it especially how it get added to.
I think I found the video you mentioned. The game is absolutely amazing. Keep up a good work!
I am a university student living in Japan. I have loved get a little gold since I was in elementary school, and it is a big part of what shaped my youth. I was able to accumulate unvigintillion gold. I still think about this game often. I am confident that I love this game the second most in the world. When will this game be available to the public on smartphones?
Wow! I'm actually really happy to hear that. I'm currently actively work on the game and hope that I'll finish it soon.
Lol I just managed to land on 14min 40sec on my second try. I would also add to this conversation and say that to any idle game that wants to have longevity to its gameplay helps to have 2 things. First is kinda tricky but done really well is great and that is to have multiple paths to reach the goal, offer multiple "solutions" to the puzzle of getting 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 however many ducks. The 2nd thing is to avoid the trap of the ever increasing prestige catchup void. So many idle games have some sort of "level" mechanic or some sort of other progression the player must progress through to get back to the point where they had previously just prestiged from. Often times after a certain point is just to leave the game running for hours while you go do something else just so you can get back to playing the game proper, and this time period will only get longer the more you play the game. I have played many idle games and I havn't personally heard much discussion on this topic before so I quite like the video, good job 👍
Yeah, I totally agree. Especially with your second take. It's really hard to make yourself sit through all the slow early game stuff again if prestiging doesn't make it much faster/more enjoyable to play. And congrats with beating the record )
You wanted honest feedback on your speaking: I am someone with phonological dyslexia (think standard reading dyslexia but for sounds) and I often have trouble understanding what someone is saying, no issues with you, you're super clear almost all words have correct pronunciation. I'm in the UK and I can't understand most of the British accents here, so doing better than a majority of Brits No be clear I'm not just being nice, your usage of English is fantastic (also it does make me a little uncomfortable when non-native speakers appologise even slightly for their English, everyone else's English is better than my hold on their language - I know Spanish and French but they always know English far far better than me)
Wow! Thank you for such a kind feedback. I'm super thrilled to hear it! I'll do my best to keep learning and developing my language skills. You've just made my day with this comment.
A couple notes. Generators can scale as much as you like, you have `a*t` (`a` is base multiplier, and `t` is time) but you could have `t^a` or `a^t`; the game I'm working on is `a^log(t)`; it's just that the cost has to grow faster otherwise you never hit the wall. The rate is a balance between preferring upgrades and preferring time, for `a^t` (the most extreme) waiting just a little longer results in huge growth and so less importance is granted to upgrades, and in your example for the ducks it's `a*t` where waiting takes a long time and you need to upgrade upgrade upgrade. AdVenture Communist for instance scales their generators by `a*t` however generators generate other generators so if you buy a generator B that generates generator As and generator As generate points it would be `a*(a*t)`, and if there's generator C they will produce points as `a*(a*(a*t))`. The researches when they are upgraded double their effectiveness, 2x speed, 4x, 8x, 16x; the effects are combined so another researcher can also increase the speed by 2x, 4x, 8x, so an 8x and 16x can end up with 128x. It's just that everything is balanced around this and numbers are displayed logarithmically so while they are increasing exponentially their logarithmic growth slows down to a crawl. They can balance for this, and do it well. I've gone with `a^log(t)` (it's not arbitrary, it was something I wanted and the mechanics I want to use support it without me changing anything), it has an importance on upgrades as waiting gets slower and slower if balanced with exponential costs (the absolute currency keeps growing), you get the `a*t` benefits with the flair of `a^t` (people like big numbers). This also allows me to easily say "I expect a player will need to get to around a 40x multiplier, and I want the level (it's going to be split into levels and after each level more content is unlocked) to take a day" I can easily put in the multiplier and look for t=1 day and know what kind of target I should set. Another type of prestige is where depending on your earnings you get another currency and this currency each one you have you get a added percentage. You want to track main currency earned in total (this includes everything, all runs, all bonuses) and this goes into a log, subtract prestige currency already claimed, and you then get how many prestige currency to get. This means that if you earn $1m and you get 100 prestige currency, the next time you get to $1m you're going to get fewer than 100 prestige currency. If we assume that prestige currency is `f(x)=(100/6)*log10(x)` then first prestige is `f(10^6)=100` but second prestige is `f(2*10^6)-100=5` - the specific type of log doesn't matter but I used log10 as it just made the maths easier to get exactly 100 from 1 million, you can modify the expression to increase the second prestige from 5 to something higher. A mistake I have seen before is that people will scale the prestige currency only with the current run and if they use a log (without memory) then it's beneficial to prestige as soon as possible, and if they use an exponential (with or without memory) the prestige currency keeps growing and so there's never a moment to prestige. With a log it means that if you stop investing to grow you will eventually stop getting more significant prestige currency which pushes players to prestige when they hit that wall (as you said) which is neither as soon as possible nor is it wait forever. Idle games have a lot of smoke and mirrors, no significant part should be left to be random. Extreme growth may surprise the player but is entirely predicted by you within a fairly accurate degree. If you have quests to complete (like in AdVenture games) you just play (by that I mean use a spreadsheet or graph) with what you think would be a reasonable amount of upgrades and time (you can select for both upgrades for a specific time or time for specific upgrades depending on your needs) and then select the quantity from that. Even without quests they can be very linear and that's ok, players just want to click things, see numbers get bigger, feel progress, unlock things, and it's a bonus if you have something nice to look at. Final note, the duck idle game model, make sure generators overlap with each other - it's a little boring to just invest into 1, and then just the next one, then the next one, it's fun when the optimal order (among 3) is something like 312213231233121232312112323111121323121. You can make worse generators more enticing by multiplying their effect once they hit a quantity, the investment to get to it should be a loss but once you pass over it can jump up to being decently powerful, but the cycle repeats and getting to the next quantity boundary is a loss. You can end up with multiple sloping staircases fighting with each other to be the most valuable. There is no limit to what idle games can do and it's one of the reasons I love them so much. The game I'm working on is, from what I can, tell an entirely new spin on the genre while keeping the core aspects people have come to expect. Love the video, now I know you exist I'm going to end up watching the rest of your videos rather than working on my game .-.
Wow! That's really impressive comment. Thank you for such a detailed response and feedback. Now I'm really curious about the game you are working on. Do you have any demo or videos about your game for me to watch? Also thank you for the inspiration to try different approaches to the generators' price progression. I think I still need to reread it at least a few times to completely grasp a concept of various progression curves you've described.
@@IdealIdleIncremental I don’t have a demo available yet, I’m currently working on a no frills first draft to make sure I can balance things
I'd be happy to try your game once it's released.
Incremental games aren't fun. I'm convinced anyone that spends time playing these types of games is suffering and needs to seek therapy.
😮💨
How did I also get exactly 14m44s on my first try? 🤣 Well, I guess I am as good as the develover at his own game. Love the sound. Want a duck on the screen that I can click to get the quack-quack-quack while I have to wait a second for the button to light up again.
Never planned to update this game. However if this video hits 10K views, I might reconsider ) Also you are definitely as good as I am. The question is, can you beat me? ;)
First attempt 15m33s the sound is very similar to the old machintosh error sound :-) bui-bui
Looks like you're the fastest one among people in the comments so far.
@@IdealIdleIncremental 13m40s second attempt. I think the maximum possible is between 12m45s and 13m15s.
@@debackervincent5822 oh. So you've beat my record by more than a minute. Neat!
@@IdealIdleIncremental I'm happy to beat the master of the game :-) I can't hardly wait for a new version of galg, as I'm at the end of my tether. :) I've been advertising to my IrL friends too but I think there's no more slots.
Very good, very informative video. Thanks Jaro for this, I hope we'll soon get to know the new version of Galg :-) Good job. rObiNeTo IG
Thank you for kind words. I'm currently actively working on chest challenges, so hopefully there will be an update for the main game soon.
I think adding a second value, that highly influences the main one, could work like new generators. That new value would not have such a problem with generators, at least for a while, there would also be an option to convert the new value to the main one, but if the new value exceeds the main one, the main one starts decreasing rapidly, or, for example, generators start breaking. The new value would therefore introduce more growth, but also more management and responsibility for the player
So you are basically talking about some kind of a prestige currency or something like that.
So prestiging... something he literally mentions in the intro of the video describing the vast, vast majority of idle games
Than you gonna be paying massive money to unity and you gonna be broke
i took 17 mins 21 secs to get 1 billion
Was watching this while playing realm grinder, lol
well im about to launch my own idle too. Been working 12 months on it. Will just target ios to start, then see where it can goes
Burger game? Looks super fun. I'm looking forward to trying it once it is released.
me personally i like it when you can really FEEL the progress like it doesnt feel like a slog and you constantly unlock new interesting mechanics, thats why i like idling to rule the gods and ngu idle! (though i usually stop playing when the pace goes slower)
