Raildig
United States
Here at Raildig we work primarily with Z scale (1:220) model trains. We also do photo, print and web work for the Z scale manufacturer American Z Line (AZL) as well as for Ztrack Magazine. We are a busy little bee! We also have a growing line of Raildig brand original Z scale model train accessories, available through most major Z scale dealers.
Like many businesses I think, we're playing with video now with no clear expectations of where it'll go for us, but I have to admit it is fun. Stick with us, subscribe and if you want to get in touch, please feel free... we love talking trains :)

5-Minute Epoxy Rant
We use 5-minute epoxy here at Raildig all the time, everything from building with XPS foam to repairs where a CA glue may not be quite enough. Instead of using the common syringe style dispensers I prefer the 4 oz bottles sold in a pair where you get one bottle of resin and one of hardener.
I recently went through 4 separate purchases of epoxy, 2 from Loctite and 2 from Devcon. Out of the 4 tries, only one package was usable and even then, one of the seals on a bottle arrived broken. I was able to return the defective packs but it was quite the waste of time, frustrating too!

Coffman Clamp Replacement Pads
I've used the Coffman right angle clamps for years, both the Original Right Clamp and the Mini Right Clamp. These clamps are invaluable when you need to attach flat material together at a perfect 90 degree angle. The cushioned foam pads on my clamps needed replacing after all these years so I thought I'd walk through the replacement pad process for you. Coffman Clamps www.coffmaneng.com/shop
Rexbeti 6" Digital Caliper
Recently my old 4" digital caliper threw in the towel, flashing random numbers on screen, turning on and off for no obvious reason, etc. Time to go shopping for a new caliper! One feature I've wanted for some time is a thumb roller adjustment wheel for more precise adjustments. I went with the Rexbeti 6" digital caliper and so far, so good. For just over $20, this seems to be a terrific little ...
Diorama Wood Veneer Fascia
In two previous videos, we looked at tools and techniques to get a very presentable finish on small diorama scenes, using Mod Podge Hard Coat and also making our own sanding boards to keep things nice and square. This time out we went full woodworker. Well, more like a hobby crafter, but I think it worked! We bought some thin red oak wood veneer and covered our XPS foam with it. I think the res...
Proxxon Hot Wire MDF Fence Kit
My Proxxon hot wire foam cutter is one of my favorite tools for making perfectly square cuts in extruded foam, or XPS. A much talked about shortcoming of the Proxxon is its miter fence. I find it has a bit too much play in it when cutting larger pieces of foam. I've seen a few commercial and a few DIY solutions out there, and the one I've gone for in this video is from a US company located in T...
DIY Hobby Sanding Boards | 3M Super 77 XPS Foam
We started out with a simple DIY sanding board video and once we got to the 3M Super 77 adhesive, we had to keep going and make a little diorama out of XPS foam! I've been using this simple idea for a perfectly flat sanding board for years and thought I'd make a few new ones as the original had become a bit rough around the edges. Lots of times I'll find I just need a handful of swipes on sandp...
Mod Podge Hard Coat | Extruded Foam
In this video I refer to Extruded Polystyrene Foam as EPS, it's actually shortened to XPS. EPS is short for Expanded Polystyrene Foam. See what happens when you do a voice over at 3am :) I often put together small little scenes for our own Raildig products on Extruded Polystyrene Foam, or XPS. It's terrific stuff to work with but it dents and dings easily. I wanted a way to avoid this and while...
Airbrushes By Harbor Freight And The Paasche H
For the longest time I resisted airbrushes just because I thought they were too complicated for my needs, that is just adding single colors to my N & Z scale building kits. When I finally bought my Paasche H single action brush, I could have kicked myself for putting it off for so long! Sure, there's a little learning curve even with a single action airbrush but the ease of use, quality of appl...
Our First Solder Pot For Tinning Wires
A solder pot is one of those little tools I’ve been meaning to purchase to tin the wires we use in our Raildig products, but over time you get pretty fast with a flux pen and regular soldering iron, so I kept putting off this purchase. When we got a couple of new large orders in from the Ztrack Distributor though, I thought the time was right to get our first solder pot. Bit of a spoiler here, ...
LED Light Modifier | Halloween Style
It seems every year when I break out this N scale Halloween shadowbox, I can't help myself, I have to fiddle with it just a bit! This year I've added some overhead lighting to brighten up our Bad Bayou toxic ponds. Not too bright, this is the Bad Bayou after all, but I've adjusted the lighting to make the foreground of this scene more visible in dark room lighting. Happy Halloween 2020, and her...
Touch-N-Flow Solvent Applicator | Welding Styrene
I've been using the Touch-N-Flow applicator for years instead of small brushes to apply my solvents and it's one of my favorite tools when working with styrene. This applicator, in tandem with MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) used as a solvent, makes doing even the most intricate styrene work a heck of a lot easier. OLFA Utility Snap-Off Knife | First Impressions
Once I started watching more videos on foam crafting, I began hearing about the OLFA utility knife model with the ratchet wheel. Over the years I've had a collection of utility knives but never really gave the quality or features of the knife a lot of thought, if it held a blade it was good enough. I thought I'd take a look at this OLFA knife that seems so popular in this video. Spoiler: I defi...
Add Tungsten Putty To Your Model Trains
We're always working on simple ways to improve the Z scale Rokuhan Shorty locomotive's performance. In this video we'll look at basic ideas that can help most model trains, regardless of scale, operate more effectively and hopefully make your train running more fun! This video started out as a tungsten putty video to increase model train weight, but we also played around with some foam products...
Micro-Trains Line | Z Scale Weathered And Graffiti Rolling Stock
I wanted to pick up some new rolling stock for use in our videos here on the channel, so I looked to Micro-Trains for some of their weathered and graffiti pieces. Once I got a new batch of the MTL cars delivered I thought I'd do a very casual unboxing of them. Micro-Trains really has it nailed when it comes to their weathering and graffiti work! Reduce Stalling With The Rokuhan Shorty Chassis
I'm a huge fan of the Rokuhan Shorty Z scale locomotive chassis. It's very reasonably priced, it's a great platform for small projects and overall it very reliable. If I have one complaint it's the weight of the chassis, it's incredibly light! The lightweight nature of this chassis can reduce the contact between wheels and rails and cause stalling, requiring the dreaded "tap, tap" on the layout...
