I'm just a middle aged girl living out my ✨childhood horsey dreams✨.
My silly goal is to monetize my channel and use the proceeds to buy and keep my own horse(s).
Until then, I am lucky enough to borrow other people's horses, and I share my journey with the hopes that I might inspire you to go after *your* dreams with reckless abandon, no matter what your age or circumstance.
I am not a professional, and I do everything under the close supervision of people who are. I take weekly lessons and educate myself on horse riding and care nearly every day in every way that I can. I will be learning for the rest of my life. Please be kind. ♥️

It's NO STIRRUP NOVEMBER! | Plus a jump lesson with my half lease horse
Who needs a Thighmaster (c 1982) when you can ride with no stirrups?? Luckily my half lease horse Taser is a doll and gave me a nice easy jog to practice posting and sitting trot on.
Plus we continue to work on our jumping skills!
Plus Carlos makes a cameo. IN SPANISH.
Thanks for joining us on our adventures. Can't even believe this is real sometimes.

Well this definitely did not go to plan. Yet another scatalogically inclined video from GP; it's been a minute. I was worried you were concerned. You're welcome. First I got sick and missed a week of riding and two plus weeks of lessons. Then Taser developed a weird case of the cough-farts. Then we had quite a surprising lesson. The results may shock you. I've had to leave a lot of barns during my two and a half years half leasing horses. It seems that when you half lease on the lower end of the financial scale, it's not uncommon to get the backburner horses, or the horses with underlying medical issues. That's not to say that these horses aren't wonderful and don't deserve attention, or that you can't learn from them. But it can mean you wind u...

I think hunter jumps does 2 pt and Eventers kinda just go with the jump so I’ve seen jumps look different in the different disciplines.
He has such a pretty trot. Look at you kicking butt and taking names! So fun. Nice teacher and nice horse = great lessons!!
Loved the video... he seems like the perfect horse for you. And love the music choices!
Thank you!
What I do with my new horse is I like to put treats on the mounting block so he can eat on the mounting block so he knows that the mounting block is good and not bad
Interesting idea!
I really liked this video. Being "overhorsed" can be a devastating experience. It looks like Taser suits you very well, and I hope you stay with him for a while . Best of luck.
Thank you! I really feel like I’ve found an amazing match.
Love this video and i'm also in NY. Curious to know what area you're in?(Upstate, ADKs, Downstate?) I am also in my late 30s getting back into riding and it's so refreshing to see others doing the same! Your vids are so relatable and i'm also thinking of doing a lease(also a gray!) at my local barn. You inspire me to keep learning ! Happy Trails!
Yes! Honestly it’s such a gift to do this again at this age when our priorities are so different and we’re less susceptible to pressure. It really fosters a deeper relationship with the horses I think. I hope you take the lease (and buy some ShowSheen Miracle Groom spray haha)! I’m in the Hudson Valley. How about you?
@@GPwithme Haah agree on the show sheen! And i'm up just west of Albany :) Happy Halloween!
You should be on the lunge line.
I was in between the two clips: that’s how I got to the point of not terrible haha
I am new to your videos, and I am very impressed. You have a lovely natural style and seem very kind . Keep up the good work and enjoy the fall colors.
Oh my gosh you totally made my day. Thank you so much and welcome! So happy to have you here! ♥️
I sense that you are relatively new at this, but you have some great natural instincts. Your video was very cute...I loved the choice of music. I am awaiting your next posting.
Thank you! That’s kind of you to say. ♥️
I really dont know anything about riding horses although I'd love to get to know them. I really enjoy watching these videos. You are having so much fun and everyone commenting seem to be so sweet and supportive too. Great energy! ❤
I hate to say this, but I think the tree of your saddle is probably broken. The way the seat leather wrinkles across the middle is usually a good indicator. This can be painful for horses so it'd be worth it to have a saddle fitter check it out. You can also hold the pommel with one hand while resting the cantle on your thigh and pull the pommel towards you to see if there's any flex. Does that make sense? Anyway, I'm here to support you 100% and that's why I'm mentioning it. I don't want you to have problems in the long term because of a bad saddle. Happy to see you jumping :)
It’s not my saddle or my horse, but the top seat seams have come apart and that’s why it’s wrinkled. The horse-facing part is intact and fits him well; he just got checked. I appreciate the concern! ♥️
@@GPwithme good to hear!

I have been there! I used pressure and release once to get a horse in this situation it felt like freakin magic! It won’t work if someone had already tried to catch her for 20 mins but if I can fresh out there I got her work pressure and release once with the wall away method. If I did that I had one very small chance to get the dang halter on hahaha. She was a school horse so I never got to try again but it magic to hook up and have it work!! I also had treats haha.
He is still getting to know me. Last time I went out he just let me put it on and I’m like “Ooooo keep doing this haha.” His owner can get him easily sometimes and not so much others. Horses have moods like people; it’s easy to forget. This is why I love them; they’re so interesting all the time. 🥰
Ps that’s such a wonderful horse for you to ride wow your jumps look so good for how little your saying you have done it!!! I jump and canter crappy because I don’t do it enough! Need my horse to stay sound enough long enough 🤣🤣🤣

Lolol oh man, you’re going to create a monster 🤣🤣🤣 Gonna have to rename my channel Carlos with me.
Not being able to ride when you want to and because of external reason is really tough. I am happy for you that you got through it and can now live it. Falling can really affect your mental and confidence, it’s so hard to get back from it, it only needs one fall it doesn’t matter if it’s a bad one or not and there it goes. You are doing so good, thank you for sharing your journey! I love the idea of doing the trip away on a ranch and ride horses, I would love to do that🤩
Thanks for the kind words. I highly recommend the riding trips! The ones I went to were Enchantment Equitreks in New Mexico and Shambhala in Costa Rica!
Beautiful journey! Horses along with dogs, cats and other animals come from the Angelic realm - all about teaching us about love - loving ourselves and others. Thank you for sharing your story!
I love that. ♥️
as someone else who started riding as an adult and had some confidence issues, have your own horse that you can consistently ride and build trust with is truly the best thing for getting over any fear and really being able to learn skills at a deeper level -- with a good trainer of course!
Yes, this is why I half lease!
You deserve a horse
That’s very sweet of you, thank you. ♥️
Wow, you have a great horse origin story! 🥰😍 I think a lot of people would’ve given up and not even bothered getting those lessons to go on that vacation. You’re tenacious!🔥🔥 It’s scary though, seeing how easy it can go from a horse working out to suddenly not be able to ride it anymore. That concerns me when I think about buying a horse one day. I need a much older horse to make up for my inexperience, but I could end up paying all that money and the horse gets lame for some reason. Its seems like such a big risk. 😢 I’m curious about this because I have ZERO experience (other than a few trail rides here and there), are the skills you’re working on now needed for trail riding? Or are you just wanting to advance your skills in English riding? Because I look at you and I’m like, you’re a pro, what more do you have to learn?😂
It is a big risk, yes. You don’t necessarily need an older horse; just an experienced and calm one, though those tend to be pricier. All of the skills I’m working on make me a better rider, period, for both of our safety in the arena and on the trail. It’s actually safer in the arena because if (and when) something goes wrong, you’re contained and will fall into sand. On a trail there’s lots of places to bolt and lots of things to fall on so having as much skill as possible keeps you and your horse safe. Also, the things I’m learning apply to western riding as well (minus the jumping piece, which I’ve barely begun). It’s all good equitation. I find that the more I learn, the more I learn I have to learn, if that makes sense. But that’s one of the amazing things about horses!
@@GPwithme yes that makes perfect sense. I really appreciate you sharing your story and being so vulnerable. Thanks also for the feedback! Oh one more thing, how much would you say (I know it varies by location and there’s a lot of variable) but how much would a horse like you mentioned go for? 😬 I know more than 4k but hoping under 10k. Is that a thing you’ve seen?
@2.0mommy I think probably $10k and up but there are definitely exceptions to that rule. Sometimes if you establish yourself as a leaser at a barn you come across situations where you can find an excellent deal. I really do recommend at least half leasing and taking lessons before making any decisions, and when you do buy, bring your trainer or a trainer.
@@GPwithme thanks for the tip about building a relationship and potentially getting a better deal. Unfortunately where I live, there isn’t opportunity for that. It’s strange since I live in a farming community so you’d think a lot of people would have horses, but I guess because it’s so rural (northern Maine), the average income isn’t too high. The people that have horses, just have 1-2 for pleasure and don’t lease them out. The only lady “near” me that gave lessons, just had to sell her horses. The lessons were more of a side hustle as she works full time, but she just couldn’t afford them anymore. She was heart broken. I asked if she knew anyone else and she told me of a place an 1hr 40 minutes away. 😬 An opportunity came up with a friend of a friend, and I’m basically just going to beg her to teach me lol 😂 Anyway, sorry to ramble. Keep the videos coming. If you want to grow on here and monetize your channel, I highly recommend watching Roberto Blake. He’s a cut to the chase kind of guy, but I appreciate his experience. Trying to grow my channel too and his videos have been VERY helpful.
@@2.0mommy Oh wow. Yes, that makes a lot of sense re lack of horse places. I'd say I take where I live for granted, but that's not true since a large part of why I moved here was because of the horse community. I'm glad you have a lead, though! Honestly, I'm also a little woo in the sense that I believe when you want something enough, the right opportunities tend to come about. And patience - which I am not the best at lol - is a stupid virtue haha. Thanks for the RB tip, and for the chat!
Thanks for sharing. For so many of us, horses are an addiction. I rode in pony club for 2 summers as a kid, but took 15 years off due to being a child of a single mom barely making ends meet. My life changed when my husband gave me gift certificates for 3 riding lessons for Christmas about 25 years ago. I took those 3 lessons, started working at the barn in exchange for riding, rode anything they would put me on and finally got my first horse in my 30s. Next thing I knew I was a working student for an eventer and the journey led me to going south for 9 winters to train and compete. Now I have my own farm with 2 retired horses and one lease, but am stuck here with no trainers around. I'm bored and lonely and love watching inspirational videos of people working towards their goals and dreams. Keep it up!
What an incredible story. Thank you for sharing!
I wondered what your history was! Thanks for sharing.
On that big horse ya don’t look as bad as ya think. I leased a 17.2 angel who was slow but could jump 3 feet and do cross country but not speedy and took work to make him go. I knew the entire time I rode him he was too big for me. So bouncey. I adore him tho. I am much happier on a smaller horse like 15’s. I have a 15’3 dude now who is still a little big but he’s my sweet so it’s fine 🤣. For my weight I think he’s the correct size. I am so sorry you got hurt. It’s important not to ride horses that have issues imho at our age. Gotta take the time to find sweet ones. All horses of course can have a bad moment. Mine bronced me after too long a lesson and I didn’t trust me gut about how his trot felt weird. He could have thrown me and didn’t. He’s my best boy. Such a sweet story. Keep ridding!!! That white horse looks perfect for you size wise your canter looks better! I had a friend said pretend your having sex 🤣😭😭 which grosses me out but I think she just meant the hip movement! I’m in the exact same position as you I want my canter better and I don’t canter enough. At the moment my horse has not stayed sound enough the past year for me to get there but the vets say it’s possible with injections and better shoe angles. So waiting on the feet to grow and slowly injecting all the things. We did hocks last week so we will see how it goes. Bought my first horse. Went lame a month later. 😅
Yes, I've heard the s-e-x thing and I'm like "Hmmm. Not sure what ya'll are doing out there lol." I do know what the movement needs to be as I used to do it just fine; my problem is getting my body back to a place where it can handle it due to my spinal issues. Best of luck with your horse and I hope s/he gets better enough to canter soon!
Watching your vids from Germany :) Your vlogs are sm fun!! 🫶

Such a sweet boy! He really seems like the right horse for you right now, he can help you get more balanced so one day you’re able to ride more “difficult” ones
Agreed!
Love the video, thanks for sharing!
That’s very kind of you, thank you!
Hi, As a biomechanics/classical instructor I think the main thing holding you back is your lower leg position. You cannot use your knee properly if your toe is in front of your knee. The classical riding position for all paces where you sit, is ear, shoulder, hip, heel. The main reason for the foot being too forward is forcing the heels down. If you think of having a flatter foot and maintaining the bend in the knee, this will make your life a lot easier. When you get this position with the lower leg correct, rising from the knee (not the foot) will be possible. You will be able to control the rise (and, more importantly, the fall) much better. She scoots out when you lose your balance on the down phase of rising trot and land heavier on her back. I do agree with some other comments that she does not look 100% sound. This could be because she is not using her back properly. Fixing your lower leg should help this.
Thanks for the advice. I no longer lease her.
I’m meeting my lease tomorrow and then I get to go on a trail ride on a different horse with my trainer for her birthday and then I get a ride in the lease horse so I’m excited 😊 😊😊
That’s so exciting! What is your lease horse like??

He is the cutest, his canter looks comfortable! Having a horse like Taser that can teach you must feel amazing after London, in the way that you can learn to relax, enjoy you ride and work on yourself. The barn looks amazing, do you also have an interior arena?
Yes to all of this! I feel like I can actually work on my riding without being afraid to hurt myself, hurt the horse’s training, hurt everyone’s eyes haha. They do have a small indoor, yes! It’s being cleaned out and prepped for colder weather rides. The barn is gorgeous. So many lovely long hacks I can join!
@@GPwithme that’s amazing! I’m excited for everything you will be able to share🤩

It’s “You and I” by Blood Harmony! th-cam.com/video/IaJchTajskk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xO0-8UTMVNyGdiLN
Sometimes making these hard decisions is really not easy but very necessary. After 6 long years I’m moving barns to hopefully 🙏🏻 get peace and quiet for me and my horse. Change is not always bad(although scary) can sometimes make a world of difference ❤
You are absolutely right. I wish you and your horse peace, happiness, and a quick settle in!
Great video! Wondering what you think of stability ball exercises to help improve balance? Also, how you acted in the beginning, is so relatable lol 😅🙈😂
I have a rigorous yoga practice centered around core stability and balance to address some chronic pain issues stemming from prior back surgery and early peri/menopause. The only additional thing that can really help my canter seat is…sitting the canter! Times like these I miss being young, but that is literally the only thing I miss about it 😵💫🤣
@@GPwithme I get that too. Those days were rough lol
I agree that’s why I love it!
That was beautiful ride. He is such a great and gentle horse. Fantastic job both of you.
Thank you! That means a lot.
I would not yet canter with her, but instead focus on leg yield first on walk and trot. Do it 90 degrees and do it to the inside of the arena because most riders do not do it correctly when they do it towards the outside. You want a nice yield without any pulling on the reins, just make sure to have taught her whip/stick yield from ground before you do it mounted so you can correct both the inner hind leg as well as the outer front leg as necessary. I say this because this will greatly help you controlling her in canter, at the moment you are heavilyy hand dependent. Don't get me wrong, I do see that it is scary to train an OTTB and that makes you feel like you want to grab something, so the more control you shift to your legs, the more freedom you get to loosen your hands.
The only time I ever cantered her was maybe a total of two minutes during lessons with a trainer. I no longer half lease her.
I notice you do not believe in violence which is great. I do see you mostly use mental pressure though, and to be honest, that method is not effective. It is clear to see she is frightened. Why don't just make it a game, play "come to me" where you train your horse to come from a distance with treats, at first just randomly running around in the arena with her, coming to a halt, then teach her to get rewarded. Food reward is a great tool (just ensure that your pattern is that only improvement and new stuff is rewarded, not the default or average action). And when you can make her come, repeat that from the mounting block. Don't do it too often from the block though, because here you would want soon to move forward to her moving her back towards the block and you (and please do use a dressage whip, they hurt badly! think of a quality ground whip like FLECK and only use the rope end, not the stick). For this to work, you need to teach her to yield to you from the ground. Do it as gently as possible. Once these two things work, call her to the mounting block and combine both tasks. Make sure you practiced both exercises (come to you w/o block and the yield) shortly before and that both are done perfectly. If you are lucky, that gets the thing resolved in no time. Think of how to make the exercises a game that your horse feels very comfortable with. Discover playfulness. This will greatly reward you, and even though this is slow start, it will be very fast once the basics are established. Like, think of it, try to get her in the mode where she is really eager to follow you because she really wants to know how to get the treats. I learned that horses will repeat almost anything they can think of just to get the treat, use that to your advantage. Now to the fear part. I recommend to get that frightened look out of her before you mount, because mounting like this could set you up to fail easily. Thus, make it all fun and games! And then, better 5-10 riding sessions with dismount in between (for the beginning that is) than one long one because that greatly speeds up training progress. Reward each time she did great, this way she will sure learn fast to have fun and it is also good for her back given her condition. Lastly: You are doing great, just some tips, take what you thinks suits or ignore :)
I no longer half lease her.
Have you ever tried to teach her one rein stop, maybe even bitless to get her out of the habit? I experienced that traumatized horses often do make the transition to bitless very well, because when they scared the riders most of the time add additional pain to the equation, which escalates the situation very often. Try to just grab the mane when you feel you need to grab something, and try to keep your body and arms relaxed at all times. Bending left and right is key, you can teach that from ground, first standing next to her, then driving her, then when riding her in stand, than in walk etc, once that goes very smooth it can be used as an emergency calm down (works best when combined with treats, cuddling and some relaxing moments, because when you try THIS emergency stop, the horse will feel calmed by you, whereas when you pull the reins like this, you give her pain. Try to take as much pain and pressure out of the equation as possible. (and also, you might work on gentle neck release from ground, seeing your horse I am not sure she really ever learned that? Maybe that was not part of her training?) (for the bitless, a good rule of thumb is, if you can drive her from ground bitless in walk and trot, you can ride her bitless, as well. If driving does not work, don't ride until it does) You see what I mean?
I appreciate the time you took to write these thoughtful things. Unfortunately I’m no longer half leasing her but she’s in good hands.
@@GPwithme oh ok thanks for the update
She is sound but probably like most TBs have poor hoof quality and feels anything sharp or stony underfoot. Try not to push your legs forward as you ask for walk and bending your elbows a little more will relax your shoulders and will transmit a softer feel down the rein. Well done.
she is not sound ;) but the creator explained in the comments. (and sometimes you can only accept that) This is not hoof lameless, looks different.
@@fragdeinpferd I don’t agree, she has a slightly strange gait in her off hind but there is no head bobbing which indicates lameness. She trips occasionally but that still doesn’t confirm that she is lame. Her way of going is not supple or fluid which proves she needs more muscle to efficiently develop self-carriage. She is an unfit mare with a long back and poor muscle development and her novice rider is not in complete balance due to her legs not being in the correct position or secure. She also relies on the reins to maintain her balance which impacts on the horse’s way of going which visually is slightly jarring. A rider who rides lightly, and in total balance would benefit this horse and its way of going. The rider needs lessons on a well schooled horse who knows its job and the horse needs to be schooled from the ground to develop her back muscles to improve the way she carries a rider.
@@toffy1952 Look around 24:56 On top of the shortness in her hind hind leg stride, she has exceptional issues with her left hind leg (or maybe above, difficult to judge remotely) with which she takes shorter strides than the right one once she actually shows some momentum (momentum seems to improve during riding). She is not able to keep this up with her left hind leg. Unfitness and lack of muscles doesn't cause this gait else you'd see it in young horses all the time. Even if you sit on a young horse that has never been trained and rider it in all gaits, a young healthy horse would not be lame due to this. She is way too strong as that she would be out off-balance like that just because of a rider and I've seen gaits like these in confirmedly lame horses. If it was primary the rider I would expect to see additional other signs. There is a video showing she is short-stepped without a rider already, so the rider is not the primary issue, even though that can cause exaggeration (I agree with the issues you mention). Also there is another video in which you can see that her gait actually improves during her ride. The short stepping looks like something is holding her off from developing momentum. Not every lameless shows in head bobbing. I would consider any health issues that lead to mechanical restrictions or restrictions due to pain a lameness, especially any asymmetric gait issues.
@@fragdeinpferd as I mentioned she doesn’t have a perfect gait but then she is not going forward which isn’t helped by the fact that she is hollow through the back hence the shortened stride. To get a horse to track up you need the horse off its forehand and working through its back which lifts the whole frame, creating the room required for the hind legs to come through and cover the impression left by the front l feet. None of which this horse is physically capable of doing at this moment in time. I think we need to give the rider and the horse a break and more understanding, they are both trying their best and it takes a lot of courage to put up a video of having a lesson when you know it’s not perfect.
@toffy1952 Thank you for that. I very much appreciate it. I don’t even lease this horse anymore and she is in good, professional hands.
He looks like such a kind horse! I hope this is going well for you and it seems to me (from the video) like you are already more confident on him than you were before. Have fun!! I’m excited for your journey with him😊
He is soooo kind. It’s exactly what I needed. I’m excited too, and thank you!
I don't like the fact that they paired you with such a green horse in previous barn. Trainer lady should work with this horse before and prepare him more for you. Then she could instruct you how to get harmony together. So this was difficult but right decision you made.
They didn’t pair me; I chose London. It was my decision and she had been working with her before me and during me and after me. Everything was actually going very very well mostly in thanks to my trainer’s guidance until I tried to canter, and I only ever did under instruction. And that’s when I made the decision to move on because my skill set had been tapped out.
@@GPwithme Ok that explains a lot.
I believe nothing happens without reasons. These other green horses prepared you to fully appreciate this horse. You both look amazing. Are you going to be able to get some lessons with trainer in this place?
I absolutely agree about learning from the other horses! I will be taking up to two lessons per week at this location!
@@GPwithme I just joined your channel not long ago.
Also - looks like freedom!
Yesss!!!
I love that you found a *trail master* !!! ❤❤❤
It’s pretty awesome 🥰
