Hi! I stumbled upon your playlist after days of research online...and I'm glad I did. I got this kit for my birthday and after realising there is no way I could paint Aztec on the saucer freehand... Can't seem to find any decal kits or masking kits to buy anymore, and I don't feel like even starting without having the solution to this problem. Any ideas where I can find decals or masking kits? Truely stunning work on this project! Fantastic build! How long did it take to build this? I don't remember if you mentioned. I have aspirations building one of these for a diorama of the scene where the Enterprise is rising from the ocean in the "In To Darkness" movie. I'm thinking I would have to mount it on the left side since about 2/3rds of the model would be submerged in water (epoxy resin).

Wonderful scratch build! What a tribute to the Kellogg original and your Dad! My only thoughts on improvements would be some red and green aircraft navigation lights on the fore and aft wingtips done with fiber optics cut flush lit with LEDs and either steady on or even adding a simple flasher circuit or both, would really make them pop with that gorgeous black!!

@9:12 -- Honestly, that lit engine grill reminds me of the impulse deck on the Enterprise (remastered/CG Enterprise and the Refit first seen in ST:TMP; the impulse engines weren't lit in the original version of Star Trek). Jefferies never seemed to be crazy about putting on warp nacelles on his shuttlecraft designs. I don't think he envisioned them being long-range vehicles let alone warp capable! The designs I've seen for original Star Trek and Phase II never seemed to be more than ferries for transfer of personnel ship-to-ship or ship-to-planet.

So, Gene Winfield likes to take credit for this design and I even saw him describe in an interview how he drew up a really nice rendering believing Matt Jeffries would like it, and as he says this, the documentary cuts to a shot of Kellogg's drawing.

very nice custom build of a prototype shuttle design. I always liked the design and was happy that they used most of it in the physical model for the show. Great job!!
