    I never heard of mid century modern six months ago. I bought a cedenza to set my TV on, it was a Danish teak veneer type. I bought another one shortly after, then went on a 3 day vacation and stumbled into a consignment furniture shop. I bought a solid teak coffee table there, it was a little rough, but I brought it back to life. It's a 1959 France and Son piece. Bought it for $359 and thought I paid too much. I found one exactly like it in Europe and they are asking 2000 euros for it.

    What a lovely couple.so great to see all the furniture I loved and dreamt of owning still brings joy. For UK viewers, wood silk is a none silicone beeswax spray really brings any wood to life and it’s gentle, Also for your client for the chair, there’s some interesting velvets from House of Hackney (quirky) and Bute Scottish wool tweed (for sophisticated), I think both are available in the USA.

    Nice video and interview and I wish him luck but I’m amused that he’s so young he thinks he’s the first person to sell furniture on Instagram and believes that Eames was the only designer who was a household name. Just a little myopic, hopefully he’ll season well.

      @@montarrmedia indeed! I fondly remember the veteran design gallery owners who mentored me when I opened my own space in the mid 80’s. Those galleries are mostly gone now, and the dealers retired or departed. Would love to take a walk around again at those first Modernism shows that Sanford Smith did at the Armoury in the late ‘80’s. Someone should do a documentary!

    As an admitted non-expert who studied art (and written papers on the topic), loves the mid-century aesthetic, has a degree in literature, visits art museums, and has done a fair amount of painting myself, I must say that the person explaining the art in this video did a fantastic job attributing significance to intrinsically worthless pieces. The number 9, no matter how many triangles are next to it, is just a number. It lacks the quizzical symmetry of an "8" that might make us consider whether life is just a race track; the solitary dignity of "1," which reminds us that we stand alone; and the despairing freedom of a "3," which is just another broken "8," looking to complete itself. No, "9" stands alone, almost disappearing next to the bold, jagged triangles that speak of the cruelty of life's pointed, hard edges. Blah, blah, blah. To call these works "art" is like saying that Andy Warhol or Jackson Pollack are in the same league as Leonardo, Rembrandt, and even Picasso (on those days when he actually was creating art, that is).

    • @montarrmedia
      @montarrmedia 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While we see where you are coming from in highlighting the individuality of certain numbers and their unique connotations, it is fascinating how art can evoke such varied interpretations and emotions. The way we perceive and derive meaning from art is deeply personal and can vary widely from person to person. Regarding your comparison of contemporary artists like Warhol and Pollack to the masters like Leonardo, Rembrandt, and Picasso, it is a compelling perspective. The discussion of what qualifies as art and how we rank different artists throughout history is an ongoing conversation, and your insights add depth to that discourse. Thanks for sharing your perspective-it is always enriching to hear diverse viewpoints on art and its meaning on our channel!

      @@montarrmedia Awe, thanks. I was just poking a bit of fun. One cannot underestimate the value of Pollack as a creator of, say, powder room wall paper. And Warhol's work was second to none when it came to Ladies Home Journal ads. I guess I'll never be welcome at that wine-and-cheese parties of the people who can afford to buy such pieces.

Since I was 15, I've always been obsessed with all of them especially the table with the two girls yin/yang scissoring or mirrored twister. I told my mom this and she was disturbed. Idk why... she knows I love quirky, unique, and weird. I wish I wasn't broke so I could at least afford the dupes.
