    My experience with LSD 50 years ago was liberating, and the only trouble was, at that time in history, the knowledge of how necessary it is to integrate the experience, add well as tools to facilitate integration, was practically non existent. There was some effort by a few academics to understand the effects, back then. Even Bill W. of AA tripped back in the 1950s, and it helped him significantly.

    Dr Shwartz is spot on. Now that I’ve found IFS a few months ago, i can see how the psychedelics help me feel so good because they can put me Protectors to sleep while my exiles get to have beautiful experiences. But the hangover (depression, anger, sadness) I feel after is due to my Protectors reawakening, feeling like scared, worried, angry parents who were incapacitated by their young children so they could sneak out of the house in the middle of the night and go do something dangerous with no supervision.

    • @maesk52
      @maesk52 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is right on spot as my companion experienced the same back lash from protectors. Maybe it would be a good idea to prep the protectors for what is about to happen, and negotiate permission for the experience! Just as I’d do with my parents when I was young 😂 still there has to be some level of communication already existing to arrive to this point.

    As a dialectical materialist IFS has become more and more appealing. This is one of the few modalities that really accounts for what we used to refer to in psychoanalysis as internalized objects and offers treatment that really factors in Systems, nested within the personality itself.

    After my first trip in 1970, I sought out books to aid in understanding. There were the Carlos Castaneda books, Andrew Weil's The Natural Mind, Altered States of Consciousness edited by Charles Tart, and The Varieties of Psychedelic Experience by Masters and Houston. I'd recommend the same, education for context and perspective.

    A spiritual/religious practice? No wonder IFS is leading to an epidemic of people acting out DID system pluralities instead of developing a hardcore self.

    • @martialmusic
      @martialmusic 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually they were acting out mild cases beforehand, but were not aware of when they made the shift. (There is also no amnesia as there is with DID.) Now folks are aware of when they made a shift (into blending), and have techniques to reduce the likelihood of future unplanned blendings, that is, the spontaneous harmful ones.
