    Did the seeds managed to sprout and grow? Looked like the soil was too hard compacted after the roller job. But for making sidewalks the roller should be great.

      Yes, the seed sprouted well. I first tilled the area with a rototiller then spread the seed and packed them with the roller, even with my weight the seed didn't go too deep. I copied some one on youtube doing this to plant a cover crop. you can also take the roller to a tractor show and ride around

    Billy, this video actually brought tears to my eyes because of all the wonderful memories of my father. My Dad had a DB. Bought it new circa 1950/51. Among the implements was this roller. I used to stand on that platform with my Dad when we packed down the lawn after the winter heaving and thawing or any other time we needed to make something flat.

    If you’re thinking about restoring and using one of these old DB tractors this is a VERY helpful video. If I remember correctly, adjusting the clutch was something my Dad did quite often. He used his DB about 15 hours per week on weekends and after his regular job at Sears & Roebuck. We had 5 acres that included an orchard (kinda) and a huge vegetable garden.

    For what it’s worth… I’ll back up everything Billy says. My Dad had one of these. Probably a 1950 or 1951 model. He ditched the hood before I was born (1955). In the years before he passed my Dad and I reminisced about “the tractor”. Dad spoke almost verbatim about his old DB as Billy does. The good the bad and the ugly. Thanks for making these videos Billy.

  • @g5flyr169

    This brings back memories of my childhood. My Dad had the same issues with his sickle bar jamming up etc. That creaky/clicking noise during a sharp turn is something I’ll never forget. Dad’s DB was a 1950 or 1951 model. I wish I could have kept it. Even more I wish I still lived on the five acre property where I grew up.

  • @naturewatcher7596

    How do you connect a throttle to a new engine? My is not connected and the throttle just set to the max on the engine itself which causes the tractor to jump every time you engaging the clutch.

    • @billywatson8931
      @billywatson8931 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are talking about a harbor fright motor, stop the video where it shows the engine and look at the home made bracket I use to hold the throttle cable, you might be able to make some thing like that.

      @@billywatson8931 1:19 I see the bracket, but don't see how the cable is connected to the motor - to its throttle part. Would be great to have a video tutorial about replacing old DB engines with new ones to revive the dead machine.

    I need some advice. I am putting a new motor on a Super 3 that came with a 3 horsepower continental engine. If I put a 5 horsepower on there and get it in a hard pull with the turning plow, do you think it might bust the gearbox or you think it will take it? I could put a 3 1/2 horsepower on it. I want to put a Briggs and Stratton engine on it. I like watching your videos by the way. You got a lot of nice tractors.

    The saddle should have very low strain with the moldboard turning plow, it is only used for transport and stabilizing the tilt of the machine. The depth of the plow is controlled with the angle adjustment on the plow not pressure on the handles. It is the same way on my old Farmall tractor, no brute force, only changes in angle. The plow will find a natural depth based on the angle. The condition of the wear edges will make a big difference, a new share will normally ride much deeper at the same angle setting than one that has worn back 2 inches. The old horse plows had about 8 holes for the hitch pin, each less than ½ inch apart, so the draft angle could be moved up and down to make it ride deeper or shallower depending on the type of soil and the height of the harness on the horses or oxen.

    The cultivator sweeps look almost new, what type are they? It would be easy if I could just take it in and match the right style shank, bolt, and angle. But, I don't have any farm tractor shops for 400 miles, so I need to mail order.

    Machines like this are why I gave up on belt driven ANYthing. Mine had the snowblower, rototiller, and cutterbar, and only the very lightest loading would function well- and yes, it was set up and operating to spec. There's a darn good reason you find so many of these in 'barely used' condition....
