On this episode we visit the famous New Zealand 4WD track North Range Road. A usually easy track has made a turn for the worst with heavy rain bringing big holes, slippery ruts and difficult terrain. Some of us need towing, some of us need winching and some of us end up taking home vehicle damage to tell the story. Just FYI, the land in-between the lighthouse and waituna stream belongs to Nagti Hinewaka. You drove over various 600 - 800 year old maori structures, build by the direct descendants of Kupe. Campinm is not permitted there. Only place where you can camp is north of the river. Good to see you didnt go onto the beach and wreck the dotterel nesting grounds / seal colonies. Please be very respectful when entering this whenua, the place is tapu to many. You are not of that tapu.

The 12 V warming blankets are not meant to be slept on. Is that how you use your electric blanket at home? Sleeping on top can ruin the heating coils. Next time, put it in your sleeping bag to warm it up and have it over you. If you put another quilt on top, it should retain the heat longer after you turn off the heat. I don't know why so many TH-camrs try to use these as mattress warmers. Jon in rural BC, Canada

Hi Jon, greetings in Canada! In NZ we use electric blankets that are incorporated into the fitted sheet on our normal beds and sleep on top. However I do agree that the blanket in my video is more of a warming blanket so will take your tips into consideration the next camping trip 👍🏻

I use one in the Rooftop tent under the fitted sheet. Turn it on 1-2 hours before going to bed on low. Does help to warm up the Rooftop tent space/area quite well. Normally, gets turned off when I go to bed and then turned on somewhere during the night to warm things up again. I have had it on the whole night on one particularly cold night and it did do quite well. But found the cold penetrated the blankets from the top. In general I find you are colder in Rooftop tents, than in a swag for instance. Probably because of the air space is bigger and you are higher off the ground.
