Francis Ford Coppola on Apocalypse Now
Francis Ford Coppola on set talking about Apocalypse Now. One of the best movies of all time in my opinion.

i was in agreement with everything up until the Paul Dano slander.
Is he comparing himself with Paul Thomas Anderson?
Maybe this is controversial but IMO Tarantino is highly overrated
As a movie inglorious bastard has nothing on there will be blood. There will be blood is a masterpiece, Inglorious bastards is exactly what Tarantino talks about several set pieces and scenes. It is not a great movie though but more some great scenes.
QT - FIGJAM
Longview?
Inglorious Basterds is a joke in comparison to There Will Be Blood. It's not even close. It's still entertaining, but come on. Not even close.
I like Dano's performance but I definitely see what Tarantino is talking about. If he could have matched Plainview in his desperation for Power, while maintaining his lack of masculinity, you'd almost certainly have a better movie. That's Insane considering "as is" this is easily one of the best movies ever made.
GOAT
Who then would have been the George Foreman caliber of actor to match Dsy Lewis?? No point in Highlighting a problem, without giving a solution… PTA kicks Tartantino out of the water too… think Quintin knows it!!
Great analysis 👍
Tarantino still has to be self-centered and boastful even when he compliments another filmmaker. Why? On another note, Inglorious Bastards ended up making the baddies look honest and truthful, and the Americans look like cheating swindlers. It relies completely upon tropes in order to make sense. You end asking yourself, "Did America have to cheat in order to win the war?"
My favorite movie!
I'm not one to rewatch a lot of films but There Will Be Blood is one I've been happy to watch well over ten times.
Tarantino is a fine filmmaker, but to compare himself to PTA is delusional and self-aggrandizing.
My favorite film ever
Of course, Quentin Tarantino is going to criticize Paul Dano, he wishes he had Paul's acting chops. Tarantino has never had an original concept... ever.
Tarantino is not even in the same league as PT Anderson lol
I knew I'd hate it the second it was announced. I'm a purest when it comes to the lore for things I enjoy. I couldn't even get down with kane pixels videos cause it's just too different it's not the backrooms in my awful little mind.
not gonna lie, your chair squeaking is pretty scary too.
Looks about 200yrs old so, definitely cursed
Is it so hard to align the B role montage when Quentin is referencing specific scenes with what we actually see being played visually?… It doesn’t seem that this is just typical BSAIB role logic so must’ve been a copyright issue?
I bought this movie during my deployment. Had no idea what it was about, but only got to do trips to the PX once a month or so. The box didn't explain anything, was just a simple "There Will Be Blood" and I bought it not knowing if it was a sci movie, horror, action flick etc. just hoping it would be good, and it ended up being insanely good. Most random movies I got from the Liberty PX sucked. I actually brought this DVD home and my little sister watched it and it's her favorite movie to this day.
Paul Dano’s performance was incredible wtf is he talking about??
Boogie Nights? Bwaaaahhaaa! I hate that picture.😅
As a fan I'm so disapointed of Ryan Murphy and American Horror Story
They fell into the horror cliche of "the paranormal is punishing the main character for killing someone" which has just gotten so boring.
Which one is he? Bevis or butthead?
This is what happened to scp but with power scalers that don’t know how to write and don’t know how physics work
I’m gonna have to disagree with Tarantino. The opening silent 20 minutes is a set piece. I will agree with the elements of photographic compositions and framing and camera movements being extraordinary though. I think Tarantino is more of an actor director than he is about scene composition and shot though
Tarantino made a couple good ones in the 90's. Everything else has been self indulgent back slapping. Basically America since 2001.
I feel like I have heard Quinton say "I will point oneeeee tinnny little thing" so many times over the years and I love the insights! Thought Dano was great though.
Love this movie!
I've seen a man crawl amazingly rough terrain (on the slopes of Mount Terrible no less), only because he wouldn't let me carry him, and carry loot with him in the form of a half nice tool kit. I don't know if they make them like they used to in South Australia, but I've got a feeling they do.
Hi, does any1 know the name of the background song?
This is one of the greatest films ever made...
I've abandoned your milkshake
I always to this day interpreted Henry Plainview as a lacking self awareness Satan, usually when movies open up with a character crawling out of a cave….

I respect Quentin but what he says about DD Lewis vs Dano is true about comparing him with Anderson. His movies are light entertainment in comparison. And like another commenter said here I agree that Dano did a fine job and although it’s true that he’s not on DD Lewis’s level, it in no way diminishes his performance or the film as a whole. It’s the best movie in decades! Quentin’s post Pulp Fiction movies are historically revisionist titillating audiences sense of “righting the wrongs” of what really happened but to me they’re very light entertainment. This incudes Inglorious Basterds and the superior Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which follows the same formula of historical revisionism and it’s a good movie but not nearly as memorable as Pulp Fiction or certainly There Will Be Blood. Also like many directors and artists he topped himself early on with Pulp Fiction even being better than Reservoir Dogs, a grand achievement in itself but I challenge anyone to name a Tarantino movie that was better.
It’s one of my favorite movies of all time. I think it was very Kubrickesque
1:32 100% i walked out of the theater like 😵😵💫 no film has ever come close to what it did to me for days.
goat movie and acting performance. i saw it in the theater in 2008 and it took over my mind. it has had a major direct impact on my life to this day.
QT seems to have missed the point of Paul Dano's character. Eli wasn't supposed to be able to keep up with Plainview. They're not on the same level, and that's by design. Daniel despises him, but what's he going to do? Just murder him for no good reason? PTA is approaching this feud from a realistic standpoint. At the end, the reason Plainview murders Eli is because, just says he says "I'm finished." There's a deeper meaning to that. He's finished with life. He did what he set out to do. There's nothing more. He doesn't care what happens to him next. That's why he did it, and that's why he didn't do it 20 years earlier.
Disagree with his view on Paul danish permformace it was pivotal for the movies progression and climax he performed wonderfully
Inglorious Bastards could have been on par with There Will Be Blood, but Tarantino's excessive violence in portraying war was a clear indication of the lack of trust most modern directors have in their audience. Why not give the audience the freedom to use their imagination? Like a well-composed piece of music, it's as much about the notes that aren't played. This is where the true essence of genius lies. The 'L' luminator✌😎
The film actually trumps the book, by Upton Sinclair as well (The Jungle -a must read). A monumental feat of film-making. Atmosphere like a pressure cooker waiting to go off, from the opening scene in that pit
to clarify the book it's based on is called Oil, but don't read that, read The Jungle first
7:52 POV: you're at work and miss your cat...
Great fucking movie
With all the crap these days, I don't have any expectations.
Taxation cant get his fr8ends best film right. The leads name wasn't long viewing it was Daniel Plainview. I thought anyway?
