Just used a load of STIXALL on it. Stuck it into position, then lent a long piece of wood up against it to prop it overnight so it didn't move. I love stixall....

Hi there mate. To be honest, no i havent got a clue which one is best thesedays. Someone left a comment on here just the other day slagging the trafics off. But as i told him it seems everyone has a different story and experience with vans. Somebody says x van is the worst with a tun of problems, then someone will say they love it and never had an issue for years. I personally come to the conclusion that whatever you buy, there will be people who think its a bad van..... So you might aswell pick whatever makes you feel good and go with it. Security wise... It seems that they can all be broken into in seconds if they really want to so thats another issue in itself. So that's my take on it mate - maybe ask a mechanic to see if they know any better. I chose mine because i dindt want a great big thing like a sprinter. Its all a matter of pros and cons in this game (size, headroom, easy parking) Anyway all the best with it, youve got alot of thinking to do. JD

Thanks for your input mate. Which van would you say is the best contender then? It seems to me that no matter which van you talk about, someone will tell you its the worst van on the market. And then someone else will tell you that they havnt had any trouble in 200kmiles. So personally, im tired of the which van is best debate coz it goes round in circles. Mine is on 370000 km, still running very well. I've had a VW T5, but this one is a thousand percent better for me, maybe because I'm a mechanic and service and repair the van myself. What I love is the simplicity, I can be in the middle of nowhere and know that I'll never get stuck stuck. My friend also has a Primastar for the past 12 years. Maybe parts and service are too expensive in your country. Here in South Africa, I replaced my gearbox mount, it was 200 rands, thats less than 10 pounds, and free labor from me

Hiya mate - Like your username - Yeah the reverse cam is still brilliant. I really like the way its part of the brake light. The little screen in the cab works a treat, It would be even better if stereo screen could be used i suppose but i wasn't sure how to rig that up to be honest. The hardest part was finding the reverse live ( the Grey one). It was all new to me that stuff so it was a real headscratcher. Cheers for your comment. good luck

Thank you so much for replying. We’ve pinched your idea for the floor also. We’ve gone with 20mm battens which I think you commented saying you could have done that instead of 18mm. How is the van life going?

@@gemaspland4839 Yes 20mm should be fine if i remember right. Yeah, i had not seen anyone do a floor like i did so i guess it was a bit experimental. I didn't want to raise it too high, loosing headroom and i also didn't want to screw into the van floor.(obviously mine wont be as insulated as someone who has raised it up 3inches and put Kingspan in etc.... but its fine in my book) So i just thought, if some wooden battens are just glued down in the valleys then i can screw my OSB board onto them. Then using the spray foam gun seemed the only way to insulate the gaps inbetween. (Fire rated foam remember, not the basic one) Mine has been fine all this time. I'm happy with my floor. Very secure, low as possible and no screws through the van. If your going to do the same then i would just say prepare for a very messy day when you slice the excess foam off with a handsaw.( Don't do it on a windy day for sure). Vacuum cleaner will be needed. And i'm a big fan of Stixall adhesive. It has always served me well. Love the stuff. And... when you come to put your OSB or Ply sheets on top, make sure its not tight anywhere otherwise it will squeek and drive you insane. I left a good gap (about 8-10mm) around all edges then finished by pumping in some silicone sealant. So far so good for me thank you. The van is performing great. Its a nice space to come back to after a day hiking in the lakes. All the best. JD

@@TheJDWay I found a sewing machine in a charity shop been making my curtains all week for my vw trident she's in this week to have all sills weldered and when she's back I'm stripping the panels off in side and putting new carpet on them ..then curtains will go up after ....only had my doris 5 weeks and loving the journey

@@dashingpig5570 exactly right. It did a great job at blacking my trims and they still look good after a few months. Yes I believe they work with either type of alternator. It is a clever box of tricks which handles charging very effectively from what i hear. Yep. That's it mate. I don't think i noticed for a little while because my solar has been doing a good job topping me up. Then I realized on my last trip out that the VSR wasn't actually doing anything because the voltage was only hitting about 13.3 from the alternator (VSR turns on at 13.7). Then the penny dropped! Thankfully its not too difficult to fix as you still need the same red cable coming from the engine bay anyway. All good now.👍

Yeah its all compromises with these things. A low top is more stealthy and easier to park sometimes. High tops give you head room but might limit your parking sometimes.... Its all pros and cons in this game. But that makes for lots of variation among the community which is interesting I think. Thanks for your comment mate. Jon....
