I remember going to see this movie in theaters with my mom. We had a good time. But the ending did leave us confused as to what happened. Did he time-travel and change the past? Has he created a virtual reality of his own making? Or a possible split timeline? And if so, then what happened to the guy he's possessing the body of? Despite the ending not feeling as well developed, I do really like this movie and think it's one of Jake Gyllenhaal's best performances. I was originally hoping they would make a sequel but now I'm hoping that this stays a one-off. Not everything needs a continuation, and this is one of them.

I think it’d be cool if they did a third one in like 10 years with Riley being an adult and having a job. Maybe they could explore emotions like stress, depression, lust, love, not sure if these even count as emotions tbh but I could see them doing that. The first one came out 9 years ago so a 10 year wait would be fine with me personally. Knowing Disney it’ll probably come out way earlier than that.

Most of these 'big' movies leave me cold nowadays. Not all, but most. After reading a few reviews, I think I'll be giving Megalopolis a miss. The best movies I've seen in recent times have had zero% CGI, but 100% depth, emotion and great performances. Past Lives, Aftersun, Small things Like These, Banshees of Inisherin. I must be getting old!

All in our own Zones of Interest because of the pandemic, inundated with media, forced to survive through separation now asked and tasked with caring for others other than ourselves and the fascists took advantage of that. To me, the line in the song you talk about isnt referencing the listener or in reference to themself. To me i read it as talking about power and how someone with power can turn people against others. Like for instance i think of it as referencing someone like Jayce. Everyone told Jayce that he was the greatest, he was a savior, a man of progress. But once he turned and villianized the undercity everyone hated the people from there. Because Jayce is seen as the greatest and a man whose. You can praise people and give them power but once given that power they can turn on you everyone can hate you for it. Thats at least how i read that particular lyric

FUJIno + kyoMOTO = FUJIMOTO.. and yeah kyo from kyomoto is definitely a tribute to KyoAni. This movie is short but a masterpiece for me. Maybe I’m an artist myself so I can relate to the characters more than others. I cried like a baby in the theater haha

Kyomoto's death in the story is a direct reference to the KyoAni arson incident in Japan where a mentally deranged guy killed several Kyoto studio staff members. I remember Fujimoto(the author) getting little criticism from japanese audience(it was and still is a touchy subject)due to the reference but it's such a vital commentary on overzealous fanbases & plagiarism in general note: the KyoAni arson instigator finally got served justice this year🙏

The monster Eliza Sue is a ref to Elephant man, a man who really existed and was deformed. At the movie's end, a woman starts screaming when she sees his face and he runs away pushing people to escape a crowd.

Okay so to explain the heart thing in the way I understood/interpreted it based on what she's said over the course of the movie, essentially that wasn't a heart per say but a sort of core designed to generate power, when she was struck by lightning it was damaged and was no longer able to generate power itself but was able to help direct power between the batteries attached and used to store collected power, from my understanding ripping that out means she can no longer store any sufficient or usable amount of power to last her for any decent amount when her solar surfaces are not gathering power from sunlight, think of it as like your phone battery being kept perpetually stable while the sun is up but when the sun goes down it's basically in that last 10% or so. The units lost at sea with her sustained too much water damage/wear and tear without any cleaning/maintenance for them to serve as viable replacement parts though they worked enough to jury rig a temporary assistant for her task. The only noteworthy exception being the transmitter which I guess is kept in a compartment better sealed off from the outside. Any parts she may of been able to work with from the ship or combat model robots were more than likely blown up so no matter what she did need to return in order to be properly repaired and get replacement parts. In any case they did quite a good job with this movie and I hope they do any sequels proper justice, it would be kinda sad if the followup lost what made the story telling in this one so great in my eyes

Think of the snowglobe, where Melancholy threw Isabel. On streaming the show wasn't just cheesier than remembered, it was DIFFERENT entirely... I'm glad you noticed the parallels of the ending to Maddie's speech. An associated detail is how the show jumps in time, like episodes skipping like they talked about, quite literally, but how that lets a variety of imagery and details continue to repeat in parallel.

This is by far the most wildest, craziest and traumatic movie ive watched but i LOVE IT!! The ending solidified it as the best horror movie lol. But that pump it up scene is just iconic.

Your thoughts on learning didn't take into fact that if you were a white teacher it would be very hard to teach about such a volatile subject. We were taught the same way about Hitler and the concentration camps. We had news reels about the invasion of Europe by Hitler. The whole immigration thing during was tough to teach with many Jewish kids in the class whose parents were in the camps. We can't or shouldn't presume to know.

They fucked up the last line. It should have been "but you can call me.... mom." I know they are referencing earlier in the film when she said "Roz" but it should have been mom. Everyone knows it. Everyone was waiting for it.

I loved that you caught nearly all the "devil" appearances throughout the movie! On my first watch I only noticed the ones toward the end. It wasn't until the second watch that I caught all the other ones! I also liked the fact the movie was actually fully supernatural and not focused on perfectly logical explanations to Longlegs' actions. It contributed to the atmosphere for me. I personally think the ending is quite open in the sense that Lee has some choices: 1-) From what Ruth explains, Lee and herself would be spared under the condition she would carry out Longlegs' work. Finding a way to destroy the doll and keeping Ruby alive goes against Ruth's deal and then I think Lee would probably be killed? 2-) Keeping the doll intact (and Ruby under the "spell") means Lee will be in her mother's shoes quite literally and find a way to continue the devil's work 3-) She can kill Ruby and just continue the devil's work I think in any case, I like that the movie does not give a definitive answer to what happens to them, but it gives you enough to assume that there will be no happy ending out of this situation. It's bleak and hopeless in a way that I personally enjoyed. Always love watching your reactions and commentary to movies! Take care! :)
