One would think that WAITING FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU would have ended higher up the list, being #2 for ten weeks, perhaps #2 or #3 for the year
Rest in peace Kasey Kasem u r a great presenter
¿Y qué pasó con Rod Stewart y "Da ya think I'm sexy"? Compré el 45 RPM a fines del 1978, y lo tengo guardado 👂📻🎵🎤✍️
Good God… please someone hand me an emesis basin. I had fonder 70’s memories than that & it was filled with LED Zepplin & The Rolling Stones… mixing in with the Grateful Dead… even tho I’m aware that they did not go the commercial way until the mid-80’s. It’s just the way my heart went. I didn’t realize that bubble gum music was still this over played.
Love it
I never missed American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. I have great memories of writing down the 40 songs as he played them. I do think they should have made this an exclusive Beatles countdown, without including the solo Beatle material, just my opinion.
I'm not sure how they worked out this ranking, but when they mention how well a song did in the weekly chart, it corresponds with the Billboard Hot 100. However, there are a few odd omissions. The Beatles had 33 number one singles in the chart, but only 32 of them made this top 40. "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" is missing. If we include the songs that made it to no. 2, then we arrive at a total of 39. But of those six no. 2 hits, they only included 3 of them here: "Woman," "Live And Let Die" and "Twist And Shout." Missing from the list are "Do You Want To Know A Secret?" "Yellow Submarine" and "All Those Years Ago." Only one no. 3 hit would be needed to complete the total of 40. They've included three of them here: "Nowhere Man," "Junior's Farm" and "Please Please Me." But the no. 3 that stayed in that position the longest isn't listed: "Let 'Em In." Other no. 3 hits from the solo Beatles include "Instant Karma," "Imagine" and "No No Song." They also include a song on their list that peaked at no. 4: "It Don't Come Easy." Also reaching that position were "She's A Woman" and "Lady Madonna." And somehow, they managed to throw in a no. 5 hit: "Goodnight Tonight." Another song that reached that position was "Oh My My."
First of all, The Beatles didn't have 33 number one hits in the US. They had 20 number one hits. Also, the longevity of a record in the charts can sometimes be more effective than the chart position. The perfect example is Wooly Bully, which was the number one song of the year 1965, yet never even reached number one in the charts.
@@magneto7930 Your second point is a good one. However, regarding your first point: the video is about Beatles hits both as a group and separately, and re-reading my post, it looks obvious to me that when I said 33, it was in that context. Why else would I have brought up "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night"?
What a great era!
Yay
That Christmas, my main gift was a cassette clock radio. I recorded many songs from this show, and still have the tape. I have not played it in over 30 years.
What about AT40 special countdown "Book of records" from summer of 1980? Would like to listen to that special show again.
Casey Casum's voice and coverage was legendary and will go down in history!!!😮

People complaining about this list are pretty funny. It is not a list of someone's favorite Beatles & solo Beatles songs. It is a list compiled by the US Billboard singles chart success of the various songs between 1964 and 1981. It is a list created by chart success and nothing else. Probably the most interesting thing about this list - is that John Lennon would not have had any solo songs on the list if he had not been killed. "Starting Over" which made #3 on this list... only gained traction after John had been killed. The song had peaked and started to go the other way on the chart before John was killed. Both of John's songs on this list only became hit singles - after John was killed.
What it does reveal is the lack of taste you guys had.
"The Hustle" just an extra? Ridiculous!
The 80s was the best decade in both Pop/Rock and Country music history
I had forgotten about some of these songs. Great to hear them again and remember. Love Casey Kasem and his countdowns.
Always loved listening to Casey Kasem. Just suscribed 👍
Thanks for posting this! One request: in the future, when you “scope” the songs, could you cut it after the first few words of the vocal? I know it would add to the total time, but when you listen to a DJ introduce a record, you wanna hear the cadence of the last words of the DJ and the first words of the song. (Granted, Casey never actually “talked up“ the songs in real time; his engineers are responsible for the timing on AT 40, but I’d still like to hear the timing)
Thank you! Please keep these coming!
My friend you did again!!! Thanks. again!!🎉🎉🎉
I 💜 the early 80's! 📻 Class of '83 here.
Buen trabajo, gracias...!

In 83, when Michael reached the stratosphere, he had number 8 and 3 for the year ( B I and B J). In 85, Madonna reached the stratosphere and finished with number 9 and 2 (Crazy and LAV).
I used to take my bath and listen to this.
I was 9 and I remember every one of those songs💯👏🏽❤️
1982, finishing 10th grade, then starting 11th 😊
This list was compiled by fan survey, not by number of weeks on the chart.
Love all the tracks that made the top 40. Some of them were genre-defining. However, I'm a little disappointed that none of Sylvester's hits made this list though. Of these four: Do You Want to Funk, You Make Me Feel, Can't Stop Dancin and Disco Heat, surely one of them should have made it into the top 40 of the era. Love the Genre. Nothing compares anymore.
Well, only 13 pieces of "Sir Paul McCartney" garbage in this list, so not too bad. The best song on the list is We Can Work It Out. My favorite Beatles song of all.
People stop being triggered about not mentioning John's death. Funny list , like to know how they put it together. Weird placings . 39 penny lane? Really behind juniors farm 😂. Sheesh
Where is " Let It Be"?
It’s #16
I am amazed at how BAD this list is. But then, their best scuff were not released as singles.
Dick Clark wouldn't play Sugar Walls on American Bandstand because he felt that it was too sexual.
Actually “Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da” was released as a single…in November of 1976. It peaked at #49 on the Billboard chart.
Yes, it was put out in 1976 with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as the B side. And while "Ob-La Di" peaked at #49 in late 1976... "Guitar Weeps" did not chart. Back in late 1968 right after the White Album came out... the group Marmalade put out a cover version of "Ob-La Di" and it went to #1 in the UK, Norway and Austria. With the success of Marmalade's version... The Beatles own version was then released in many countries (but not in the US, UK or Canada) and it was a huge success going to #1 in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, West Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The song was so popular in Austria that Marmalade's cover went to #1 and then when The Beatles version was released, it knocked Marmalade's version out of the top spot ("Ob-La-Di" replaced "Ob-La-Di" at #1).

This Top 40 List of Beatles songs is a big JOKE!! This is the WORST List of Beatles songs EVER. FACT!
Considering he's dead, at this point,I don't think Casey cares about opinions. FACT
It's based on chart performance. These are the Beatles 40 most popular singles. Casey didn't pick his 40 favourites.
@@oldguynewmusic6632 yep, the Emily Litella energy is off the charts... here's the metric for this survey 30:36
I agree with what the first person with comments made. A lot of this list is actually funk, R&B & just pop dance music. Some of these are disco (dance) songs. Many disco (dance ) songs from back in the day, actually go to an 8 count. The 8 count is your ( basic) steps in disco dancing ( partner dancing). I think most disco songs have that distinct disco sound, little kind of like high energy music. Very fluent in nature. To me, most of this music was more or less, commercialized.
Casey actually misspoke at 1:12:34 , "You light up my life" was not the number 1 song of 1977. In fact it was actually the number 3 song 1978. The song came out late in 1977 and was counted for the following year's totals.
Very strange that Casey totally glossed over the fact that John had been killed.
He talked about the late John Lennon at number 22 when discussing the song Woman.
