Join us as we dive into the unforgettable Up & Over Weekend at Taos Ski Valley! This year, I took on the ultimate Double Trouble challenge while my son participated in the brand-new Up & Dn Kid’s 1K. Here's our experience:
My Double Trouble Challenge
Taking on the Double Trouble meant pushing my limits with both the Up & Over 10K and the VerticAL’s Vert-K. The Up & Over 10K started with an intense 2,612’ climb from 9,321′ at the base to the summit at 11,819′. The views of Kachina and Wheeler Peaks were absolutely breathtaking, making the grueling ascent worth every step. The technical descent through high alpine terrain was equally challenging but exhilarating.
The next day, the VerticAL’s Vert-K had me scrambling up TAOS’s notorious Al’s Run, a steep black diamond ski run with a 1,497’ vertical gain. The climb was relentless, but the sense of accomplishment at the top was unparalleled. Competing in both races back-to-back was the ultimate test of endurance and determination.
My Son's First Up & Dn Kid’s 1K
This year was special because my son joined the fun with his very first race, the Up & Dn Kid’s 1K! The excitement in his eyes as he lined up with other young runners was contagious. The course took him up Pioneer Run and back down again, a perfect mini-version of the classic Up & Over 10K. Watching him conquer the course and cross the finish line filled me with pride. It was a fantastic introduction to the world of trail running for him.
Double Trouble!
Participating in the Double Trouble was an incredible experience, testing my limits and rewarding me with stunning mountain views and a great sense of achievement. The camaraderie among fellow runners, the supportive atmosphere, and the thrill of the races made this weekend unforgettable.
