I was too young to remember the Big Red from the 1960's. I think though that without anyone objecting I can say that if not for the injuries Charlie Johnson suffered and if the Organization had done a better job of drafing players who knows what might have happened.

The end of the Giants dynasty era. If you are over 65 years old, you will recall only 2 winning seasons, 1970 & 1972 until 1981 and the start of the next great era of Giants football.

@Tubewings Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, Isaiah 44:6 6 God, King of Israel, your Redeemer, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, says: "I'm first, I'm last, and everything in between. I'm the only God there is. Exodus 3:14 And God (Jesus) said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM'; and He said, 'This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel: 'I AM has sent me to you. John 5:46-47 Jesus(God) said For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”. John 8:24 Jesus(God) said Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.” John 14: 6-7 Jesus (God) said to him, “I AM the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”. John 8:58 Jesus(God) answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!” Matthew 24:35 Jesus (God) says “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” 2 Corinthians 4:4 satan, who currently rules this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is God. Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

I remember seeing Johnny it had to be about 45 years ago. He was jogging in the Central West End on Maryland Avenue possibly coming from Forrest Park. I have never seen such a physical specimen like him and this was about 7 years after he retired from the NFL. He definitely had the size, physique and work ethic to play in the NFL Happy Birthday, Johnny!!

Watching this, it is just astounding that two months later, Dallas was in the Super Bowl - and St. Louis didn’t even make the playoffs. (1970 was the 22nd straight season the Cardinals missed the playoffs; they had last made them in 1948, as the Chicago Cardinals, and they would not reach them again till 1974. (They participated in the “Playoff Bowl” for the 1964 season, but the NFL now officially considers that a postseason exhibition game, not a playoff game.))

This was their one chance their chance to do something and sadly they didn't. The window closed real quick in 1976 and other than quick playoff exit in 1982, their last best chance was in 1984 where they just couldn't win in RFK on the last day against the Redskins. The Cardinals wouldn't win in RFK until 1993.

My parents had season tickets since 1966, when they moved to Busch2 until the day they skipped town. I started caddying at local private country club and I saved enough money to buy my own. It was a family tradition starting in Sept. and ending in Dec. Unfortunately, the were bad most of the time, but there was some good footballs players to play for the Big Red. Larry Wilson, who revolutionized the safety position. He basically invented the safety blitz. Jim Hart, who arguably should be in the HOF. Jackie Smith, one of best, toughest TE to ever play. Mel Gray, the undersized speedster who no one could catch. Terry Metcalf, one of the 1st. dual threat RB. Roger Wehrli, the original shutdown corner. Ask Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson. Pearson got his occasional TD, but it’s Drew Pearson. Otis Anderson, the best Big RB to ever play for the football Cardinals. “Jet Stream”. Need I say more? One of my favorites, Stump Mitchel. Any so many. The Rams temporarily eased the pain, but I still miss the Big Red. Notice I didn’t mention what’s his name. I’m just sayin.
