    Great race and good job by Lando as well with a solid p6, so close to that p5 though. Ricciardo on the other hand.. still a long season ahead but time is running out fast for him. And now with Checo staying at RB to end of 2024, suddenly Gasly is likley on the table for Mclaren. And if Mclaren can get a real competitive car for 23 AND Gasly on board with Lando, i think good things will come for them.

    • @GregAllenF1
      @GregAllenF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It pains me to see Ricciardo struggling so much. I am a big fan of his and as a McLaren fan, I was pumped when he singed. That said, the performance is just not there. If he doesn't turn it around I think Gasly is a great option, although I believe ZB will look to IndyCar and bring over O'Ward or Herta.

    The main problem with their strategy was boxing leclerc for inters, just to box him a few laps later imo. To be fair to ferrari though, It's always easy to look back on the decision and complain about it. Atleast sergio gets another win.

    • @GregAllenF1
      @GregAllenF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How bad was Ferrari's strategy today?

    • @askeladden7930
      @askeladden7930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They may have a great car but they really cannot afford more of these strategy mistakes, especially since Red Bull always seems to be one step ahead of them when it comes to strategy. And to lose what seemed like a certain win for Leclerc like that is just not ok. Especially for a team like Ferrari. Seems like the Checo pit stop kind of caught Ferrari off guard and just messed everything up.

    • @GregAllenF1
      @GregAllenF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@askeladden7930 It will be very interesting how much of a story Ferrari's strategy calls become as the season progresses. Sainz took his strategy into his own hands. Maybe Leclerc needs to do the same.

  • @Sorry_ImTruthful

    Its all about the points! So you can’t blame them… but for them to make excuses? Now that is a reason to question them 🤷‍♂️

  • @boydmccollum692
    @boydmccollum692 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The bigger issue was when Checo had already pitted at his first stop and then could've passed Max and Russell on much fresher tires, but RB didn't let him (when he had the tire advantage). That would have messed up his 2-stop strategy. The time Checo let Max through, Max would have passed him within a lap or two anyway, so that was a smart team move to not waste time squabbling. The team wanted a P1 and P2. If Checo fought Max there, it could have really messed with Checo's tires and the possibility of falling down to P3 or P4 was a possibility. So while every one is focusing on Max being let through, I think Checo's real issue with the team was the time earlier on.

    • @GregAllenF1
      @GregAllenF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is a really sensible take. I agree that Checo's chance was when he was on the fresh set and they didn't let him attack. I also get his frustration at being told he would get the spot back. That said, he knows why he is at Red Bull and I am sure he will move on and pick his spots.

  • @LuisLopez-eo5xe
    @LuisLopez-eo5xe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a checo fan, Verstappen definitely had a better pace even though Checo had a perfect race so it was smart for Redbull to pull the switch. I think if Checo wants the #1 seat he needs to be on the front row or pole position on a consistent basis.

    • @GregAllenF1
      @GregAllenF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure he will ever get that chance tbh. I do agree Verstappen had the better pace though and was likely to win the GP regardless of the team orders.

  • @Ratatosk80
    @Ratatosk80 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was a fun race to watch. The world championship shouldn't be decided by DNF mechanical failure so I was very happy to see Charles having one. Hopefully he has another one so it evens out between him and Verstappen, 2 for them each. Don't think Perez letting Max by was a big deal. I don't think he had much chance to win that race so it was the smart call. The season is shaping up to look really promising. Would be great if Mercedes can be up there fighting. I am not a fan of Hamilton but I enjoy seeing Russell driving the Merc.

      I feel like Checo is just doing his job at the end. I'm sure in the heat of the battle it's frustrating, but after the smoke clears and the dust settles. He is a professional. I'm a checo fan and I get frustrated as well, but it's a team effort. I'll bet he will get a smoking contract for next year

    • @GregAllenF1
      @GregAllenF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@00Marez00 agreed. In the end, securing a seat for a few more seasons at a top team is not a bad place to be. We can’t forget that 2 years ago we were talking about him being in IndyCar soon. So he is really in a great sport now. Would like to see him win a few more times though.

    I think Mercedes was the worse thing to happen to F1, I found Nascar and Indycar less interesting until they started dominating the whole sport. With the new 2022 cars it is a great breath of fresh air, it has actually brought back racing and made it interesting again. I hope for no Mercedes domination every again or at least for a long time. I always watch f1 since I was a kid. But I prefer series like Nürburgring LS, Adac GT masters, GT Europe, those are real racing .... f1 has no soul, no emotion. Over the last year I find f1 has gained millions of bandwagon fans for some reason, they all think f1 is the greatest, perhaps they should watch an NLS battle at nürburgring and after would also agree f1 has become boring and over rated

    When Albon ans Stroll collided, my heart sank! I have been rooting for Albon for so long. It is a really difficult one with Alex. I really like him as a person, he comes across very polite and nice in interviews and he has great banter with George and co but I do feel that his moves a a bit clumsy at times. I feel this one was 50-50 with stroll. But like I said, Albon is a driver, I don't like to criticise because he seems a great guy but if you are not performing on track or you are a little clumsy, then you have to be objective

    • @GregAllenF1

    • @GregAllenF1

      I think we saw the reason everyone was concerned going into this race last year. It is a very fast track with some crazy high speeds in those corners. I am definitely getting tired of hearing “they didn’t expect to see a car hit there” as a reason for not having a safer barrier though. Time we make sure all walls/barriers are safer.
