Macbook Pro (2023 14" M2 MAX) HDMI 2.1 Problems
the cable/TV works with my HDMI 2.1 PC, but not with the MacBook.
What's more annoying is the macbook doesn't allow me to change the refresh rate so I have no chance to try HDR at reduced framerate either.
Update: A new expensive optical cable fixed the problem. But this cheap cable still works great for PC, so I blame the Mac UI for not allowing me to set the custom settings which a PC could.

I'm afraid I don't know since I just sent it back to PBtech and let them handle that stuff so I've never dealt with Asus directly, and after this laptop I've stayed well clear of any future ASUS products so hopefully I'll never find out. I bought the ROG Flow x16 2023. It's a $3000 machine. The trackpad was lose. Display looked yellow from how poorly it was calibrated. ICC profiles it came with don't work on most games. The display wobbles. The Mini-Led blooming is extremely noticeable. The entire chassis is bent, including the display segment, making it look pinched and with "backlight bleed" (even though that shouldn't be possible with mini-led). The little rubber supports fell off. Thermal paste on the GPU was dry and gone, along with whatever material was used for the vrms. The liquid metal was all over the place on the cpu. Or rather NOT on the cpu. The temperature was obviously terrible. 95c when playing anything. The speakers are a joke especially considering the g14 has 6 of them and is $1000 less. The keyboard is backlit with no per key rgb. The space bar is lower from the right side of it than the left from use, even though that should never happen. The XGM port is proprietary and cannot be used with any external gpu, it is exclusive to the horrendously over priced dock with a laptop GPU. These are just the things from the top of my head. Remember, $3000. edit: Coil whine too.

I recently bought the G17 Version with "just" the WQHD Monitor which was also my first Laptop/PC even capable of Gaming. I got myself a pretty f*****g good deal, but buying a new Laptop/PC on time(Modern and fast) can be pretty frustrating if you haven´t been into the PC-Game in general. I guess I looked everything up pretty well beforehand, but the whole G16/17/18 Thing was very confusing to say the least. My eyes were on the G18 right on the beginning. It was in Budget and looked pretty damn awesome. The further i got into the theme the more i thought it would be a bit to much for my uses. Paying at least 2000€ more for a 4090,Intel 14900 and the Nebula Display with less RAM "Nope thank´s!" But a 9745HX,a 4070 and 32GB RAM for under 1800 BUCKS im IN. For Gaming: a 4070 is right enough if you dont want to play City Skylines 2 or 2077, for Editing using free Software with up to 2k more than good and reviewing the footage on a 4K HDR TV i didn`t need the G18 anyways. I missed the whole "SCAM" might be because I had to look everything up for the first time(and so many times) OR the fact that I live in Germany and had to look up everything myself in the firstplace because there was no AD. It just seems to be a issue with your retailer in New Zealand. P.S.: CHECK the BIOS with "My ASUS" for Updates, after that "Armoury Crate" then "Nvidia Drivers"("Geforce Experience"). Running Windows make sure to use the highest Energy Settings for everytime.--> let the Armoury Crate decide or change the settings there yourself. If you even still got one of these irrepressible beasts

Nope. We got screwed here in America as well. The only reason why I'm keeping mine is because I got it for $1,700 at Best Buy. Open Box sale during the Thanksgiving Christmas holidays and the Laptop was in mint condition. My power brick still had the plastic on it and no screen bleed. The screen is NOT HDR. Only Dolby Vision for media viewing. Not games. I had no idea when purchasing due to the advertising. To make things worse I installed a 4tb secondary Nvme drive along with 64gb of 5600mhz DDR5 and found out about the screen afterwards. LOL! That's my fault but I was still bummed. Right now I'm searching for a MOD that can emulate HDR for non HDR screens. The 4080 is nice but I wish my screen colors popped more with better black levels.

Thanks for this information I was considering the 2024 Asus Rog Strix G18 because of the screen. The Canadian bestbuy website says ROG Nebula HDR however I checked on the Canadian Asus website its Nebula 500 nits.

Purchased an ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 with a 4070 and 240Hz display back in August of last year through Best Buy, and it was probably the worst purchase I have ever made. At the time, the employee who sold me the laptop had praised how powerful and reliable the machine was, so I bought it without hesitation. Having previously purchased other ASUS products and being satisfied with them, I saw no issue. The Geek Squad employee who eventually handled all my services for the laptop went on to tell me that the Zephyrus models were constantly having problems and were generally unreliable. This contradicted the praise that the initial sales employee had given me. In the end, I had to get it serviced three times; twice, the motherboard was replaced, and on the final occasion, the speakers became muffled out of nowhere. All the while, I had to wait two weeks or longer for the repairs to be completed. The laptop spent more time in repair/servicing than in use! Luckily, the stars aligned the day I took it to get serviced for the speakers, and a Best Buy GM was on location. I was able to get a full refund after what would have been three services, and the laptop was junked out. Maybe the unit I got was defective, but I don't think I will ever take another chance with an ASUS product again. Had I not purchased the almost $200 My Best Buy Total membership on top of the laptop, I would have been out $1600 and most likely would have had to pay for the repair costs/parts. Please consider other options if you are in the market for a laptop. An absolute nightmarish experience I wouldn't wish upon any customer.
