    Not sure if it helps or hurts, but all of your top videos are ones u e seen promoted in my feed. I didnt even know you made craft videos (haven't seen them pop up/algorithmically promoted.) It's hard to jnow how much if the promotion is because it's popular or how much it's popular because TH-cam is pushing it :(

    I’m interested though in whether some craft videos on the public YT might give potential new patrons a good preview of more of what they’d get on patreon? If so, they might be worthwhile on occasion even if they don’t get that many views?

    I'm an experienced writer so I don't need as much help with craft. Where I'm at is publishing. You're so inspiring. I want to publish a book so bad. I have short stories that have been published but they've mostly disappeared from the internet. I do like your line by line critique videos tho. I like your life of a writer videos and your flavor of 'you can do it!!!"

    Why I became a subscriber is that you are different from all the other authortubers. For me you are to me more relatable. Iff that makes sense. But I do understand the frustration with the algorithm. I’m sill struggling with that myself after 20 months on BookTube. I’m not doing bad with over 80 people watching two or more videos every month. Which I think is great, but I think the algorithm doesn’t really fancy my niche of the more unknown books. So that’s probably why the algorithm is having a hard time in finding the right people for my videos. Which can be frustrating. But hey over 80 people every month that’s a lot iff you picture them in my living room. They don’t fit in there. lol.

    Well, I watched almost all of your videos, but if I had to choose, I'd definitely say I prefer creative life videos. Lately I found I enjoy listening to other writers talk about their process, motivational mind tricks they use to get themselves to write even when it feels hard. How you overcome perfectionism. Really enjoyed Montgomery diaries too! I would've never read them myself but it was great hearing you read and relate to her experiences. And I'm still waiting for your writers "manifesting" success video lol

You are charming and delightful. Hope you have a lovely half-assed thanksgiving 😂

  • @daminicat
    @daminicat 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    🤣 I hope you guys have the BEST half-assed Thanksgiving 🙏🏼 That makes sense to continue the craft type videos on Patreon or finding ways to Trojan horse craft topics into more algorithm friendly videos. One of my fav TH-camrs whose niche was anime analysis had a successful second channel that was a place for them to put anything that wasn't optimal for the main channel. That second channel never got the same amount of views as the main one but it still did well, became monetized, and had its own cool vibe because all of us watching that channel were...I guess you could say "true fans??" But I don't mean that in an elitist way, I just mean that we were an audience tuning in for that person specifically, instead of an audience tuning in for anime content. But I can't remember how many years into their TH-cam career it took for them to start that second channel. They had initially only started it to have more creative freedom with their video content since the main channel didn't really allow for deviation from well produced, edited, video essays about anime. You've created a great cozy space here with lots of wisdom and experience to share so it'll be fun to see how this channel evolves! 🤗💕 I think the video ideas you mentioned are great, ESPECIALLY the deeps dives, I love that stuff lol

    Hey Lidiya! Like you i watch a lot of artists who talk about what it means to live as a full-time creative and I really love that when I watch your channel I get to have that but for writing! I found you through your 40 books in 4 years video but have stayed because of the "lifestyle" content. The actual "here is how you do it" craft videos bore me because people really don't seem to say much that's new. I know the goddamn basics. When it comes to craft, what I *would* watch is someone talking about specific struggles THEY had, eg "i didn't understand these 4 things about structure and here is what it took for me to learn it, here are the mistakes I made". Or "i wrote 40 books in 4 years, here is how my approach to structure changed over that time". Like, author vloggers, don't give me a dry lecture, tell me a story about how YOU got better or what you find all YOUR work has in common, and my butt will be ON that seat. In particular because you are so prolific and in your 40s you really have all of that experience to draw on as well as a longevity in the field, and that's something a lot of author vloggers just don't have. Imo it is definitely your strength to play to in thumbnails titles and how you frame your video concepts. Anyway. I love that stuff. Love your channel. Am enjoying the LM Montgomery readalong. Thanks for always reading and responding to my comments :) i just joined your patreon at the free tier and once i get a better job in the new year I am looking forward to moving to the discord tier! I'm looking at it as investing in myself :)

    I always check my Subscriptions tab first, and I don't have "restricted mode" on so I always see new videos from nearly everyone I follow, including yours! :) I only check my Home tab after I've checked my Subscriptions feed. However, last week I tried putting restricted mode on (because I wanted to stop seeing distracting comments sections on my phone, not because I wanted to avoid topics) ...I lost nearly 50% of my Subscriptions feed! So I turned that off within a day - on other social media as well, I always find the "people I follow" feed and bookmark that instead of the For You or Home pages. I think I've watched all your videos all year! <3 Good luck with next year~

      This is how I use TH-cam too. I’ve quit Instagram etc so my dopamine-seeking thing now is popping in to my Subscriptions tab in TH-cam over the course of the day to see what’s been uploaded and I mentally bookmark the ones I want to watch once I have downtime in the evening, so I rarely miss anything from channels I follow.

      Maybe...? But I do feel like I have caught the algorithm before. It's more a matter of having a better strategy, I think. I'll do well and then make a video that throws it all off...and it's fairly clear as to why. Although I stand by the idea that one's first year on TH-cam should be pure experimentation!

    • @NicolesBookishNook
      @NicolesBookishNook 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @ they play with their algorithms all the time, like Amazon, and there was some weirdness happening for a solid year with longer videos not doing very well. I was growing fast and then… splat 🫠 Bummer for a while, but I learned I do BookTube for fun and I don’t like Shorts and the idea of it, so I just did whatever I wanted, and then hit the spot with horror books/reviews. Didn’t know horror fans were that into BookTube, but the more the merrier! 💪🏻

    Algorithm's hard. I've listened to those video too, and the way is more of the same: trends, clickbait, plastic thumbnails. Nothing I appreciate, but I'm quite sure that it's not what you will ever do with your channel; you've found the way to live writing books, I'm sure you will figure out what's best here on TH-cam. I'm one of those who are very interested in your experiences, projects, but also recommendations. I'm here to chill with you while I'm doing stuff, and your calm voice and attitude really help me a lot. You are building an amazing community, you're doing great. I probably should clarify that I don't mean juicing the algorithm to be like...I don't know, Mr. Beast or something, LOL, just not confusing the TH-cam algorithm. As in, if my channel does best with "creative life" videos, TH-cam will get confused if I then do "writing how-to" videos and penalize the channel accordingly. Which means if I talk about writing how-to on the channel, I just need to think about how to couch it in like, a creative life vlog or something...and videos on the most granular writing topics just move to Patreon.

    I usually write niche video game fanfic, but my nanowrimo project became difficult as I got sick. I remembered a link I saw on tumblr a while ago - lovecrafts commonplace book where he wrote down ideas is right there on the internet, so I’m using those as prompts where I try to emulate him a bit and write something about original characters for a change. Is this worth publishing? Hell no. But I’m having fun (and am blasting out words to yet make it to 50k sickness be damned)! It’s very nice to not have to look at wowpedia for a change lol

    i really resonated with whoever wrote the submission following the Asrae character. i love to flower up my writing sometimes, i hate reusing words if i notice that im doing it. after all, writing as a craft comes from saying things in a way that isnt always straightforward, otherwise we would all just be giving cliffs notes of plots as stories lol but i also understand that learning to trim fat and place *purposeful* weight upon certain scenes and the pacing therein is a good skill to hone in that regard. theres definitely a pleasant middle ground between "Wren sauntered confidently into the room, her aura drawing all eyes to her. The way she held herself demanded the attention of any in her presence, and that attention was only ever secured by the beauty found upon that first reflexive glance." and "Wren walked in the room and everyone couldn't help but stare." Sometimes one is just gonna be better suited for the scene and pacing and purpose, it's a matter of knowing when to pick either one and how to use them best. (:

    You have some very interesting ideas, but seem to be uninformed about magick. Look into the actual practices of people before you warp them to fit your story. All forms of magick have been practiced in the real world, so when making a new system you have to carefully take this into account. If you want to fundamentally change how it works, you have to know how it's fundamentals work. Otherwise, it's only a crude imitation. Magick is intricately intertwined with humanity, as spirituality is within our nature.

    A publisher said that I should be advertising on Facebook, Instagram, etc. I just said NO. I will do a TH-cam video and you can upload that video to whatever other social media you want, but I will have nothing to do with these awful platforms. TH-cam is bad enough, with its constant promotion of Jordan Peterson and the like. I should say, however, that I am 76, have NEVER owned a television set, and use a clamshell phone that I don't even carry around with me. I'm not a technophobe, but consider half the population totally nuts with their willingness to be absorbed into the "Borg."

    A great and terrible beauty almost single handedly sunk my teeth into reading permanently. As a young eclectic wiccan, i saw myself in Gemma sooo much. My jaw dropped hearing someone else talk about it, i must live under a rock lolll

    part of me thinks that books have become how they are because publishers/editors/managers (any amount of the people that determine a pass or fail before being trad published) are people who just don't read. Not to say I read a ton, which is something to work on as someone who enjoys writing, but I think it's on purpose. I think too many people who make executive decisions on books are only making decisions to trick people who "arent usually readers" into becoming a book consumer. So their priorities are tropes and pandering and vapid smut, as that appeals to the lowest common denominator. I understand, too, that markets have to go through cycles of "gain new demo" and "appeal to demo we have", lest their demo just die out. But theres just this prevailing sense of... idk, half-assery everywhere and I can only explain it as "the spirit of artists is, yet again, being stifled for the sake of dollars."

    Before we lived only a few houses down from the post office, I always had USPS pick up our eBay packages-do they not do that anymore? As I recall it was a free service and was scheduled within the eBay label system. I’m not actively selling at the moment, so I could be wrong, but I know how time consuming those PO trips can get! Settling in to watch the rest of the video now!

      Technically you could but the problems with that are: we're close to first on the route so his car usually is full to the absolute brim. (Rural routes, so no mail trucks, just lil' ancient Subarus out here...) And I'm usually not even awake. So I would have to change my entire schedule to get stuff out there before he arrives. But then he wouldn't be able to fit the packages in his car. So it would probably force him to swing back later when his car has more room. And ALL the carriers are now making multiple trips some days, 30 minutes away to get all the packages delivered. So I'm not gonna do that to my poor mail guy.

    It's a bit strange that necromancers are doing organ replacements, not potion makers. If they made doll people, they could probably come up with some kind of limb prosthetics. On the other hand, it could be a question of price

    i love that your stories taking place within the same setting have vastly different tones and even slightly different subgenres being catered to between books as well! i'd actually kind of been hesitant to want to solidify my plan for my trilogy because of how i worry about consistent tone. seeing it work well enough here even just in theory makes me more confident that it can be an interesting enough thing on its own to give a try!

      I feel like the most important thing is to appeal to the same reader. So, some are more high fantasy with more drama and some are smaller and cozier but they all do have a similar tone of writing, they all have a romance, and they all have slice of life aspects, humor, characters that cross over... It's maybe a little like how Cassandra Clare has done different time periods for her Mortal Instruments world, so the tone is a bit different for the eras. What I probably would not do is do a grimdark and a cozy in the same series, for example, or a really serious book and a comedy.

    i loved the Great Expectations slander lol i was expected to read it in an english class that i was mistakenly enrolled in halfway through high school. i actively slogged through maybe 4 pages before being like "was this guy educated? does he know what punctuation is? he put the great in great expectations??" and i was so dramatic over my dislike of the book lol takes me back

    Skyrim really did a number on my brain chemistry as an adolescent. I desperately want at least one of my projects to give people the same feeling i got when i just began to wander tamriel on my own for the first time on winter break. There was also this niche game that I had no idea anyone even knew about (until I heard it got a steam release???): a game called Soul Nomad & the World Eaters. It follows a hero that gets possessed by the god of chaos and has to balance asking for his help and keeping him in check. I've always been very invested in stories that broach topics that can relate in any way to mental health, and as loose as the connection is, the concept of sharing bodies with someone and accepting the reality of it is very similar to experiences people have with DID and other similar dissociative conditions. I'd never exactly known why I was so emotionally attached to stories like that until getting answers about my own mental health muuuch later in life lol and, really, mental health themes are one thing that anyone who cares about my projects better embrace cuz it'll be around every time xD
