Bronze Resonator Guitar Build | Ep 5 | We did it, Paul's guitar is complete.
We did it in five episodes... I feel like some sort of award is in order for getting through it in that few installments.

    Honestly, in so far as the soldering is concerned, you're really better off just biting the bullet and springing for a jeweler's Oxyacetylene rig... They're not that crazy expensive (200-300), a couple of small tanks will last a VERY long time, and they're easy to sell for basically what you paid if you halfway take care of it.

    i just watched you build a steel resonator .....this is one of mine th-cam.com/video/YEG1jrv8zhk/w-d-xo.html........i made a set of steel dies for folding the edges of the top back and sound well ...and a mould for bending the covers too ....I have also discovered a couple new ideas.the first since these were invented .....all my tools are operated with bolts ....I have been negotiating with Rickard banjos to make them for me but that is not working out ....the new idas need explaining but they do make a huge difference to resonators ........my guitar moulds do not use english wheel or bead roller . ....if you are interested we can talk oh i made 5 bodies in 5 hrs to finished.....Paul Jones

    This is great stuff ! I have a 1928 National Hawaiian square neck tricone that has some small solder gaps in the top to sides part of the guitar around the 10 th fret from stress on the neck ,this needs to be soldered again . The body is nickel plated German Silver which is white brass . This is done with flux and a propane torch correct ? This must be done from the inside I guess correct ? Will the heat from the torch mess up the body or the nickel plating ? Thanks for the great video , it has answered some of my questions , one guy told me I needed an acetolin torch to do the job, that was some bad information . Thanks again and your doing fantastic work !

    So i have a question. So i just bought a motor the same rpm as yours and i was thinking of getting the same buffing wheels from harbor freight. My question is would it actually make more sense getting a 2 ft threaded rod to get the most amount rpm since we are only using 2 pillow blocks? I looked at a 2 ft one from menards and it seems like there would still be plenty of room to have the 2 sets of buffs on the end. It just seems like 3 ft is kind of much for a set of buffing wheels that are only 6 in. In diameter

    While looking for something else (if there's such a thing as a 30" scale neck for a Fender Jazz Bass) I saw your video on re-necking an earlier bass build and found this series. I watched it all. Really enjoyed it. Using the ferrules to keep the wood block in place was ingenious. If you want more relic, add bare steel "binding" to the top. I'd be happy with a polished aluminum or copper skin on the top of my MIM Standard Tele. There have been some wacky things I have dreamed up but will never build. 1. Plane 1/8" off a Tele, rout out the body and add a spruce top. No guard or control plate, wired up like a hollow body (the switch might be a challenge.) Otherwise, all the normal Tele bits. 2. Using two routed Tele bodies, plane 1/2" off the top of one (no neck pocket) for the bottom, and 1/2" off the bottom of the second to make the top part. Glue them up to make a 3" hollow body. There's probably a less wasteful way to make a 3" deep body LOL.

    This is great, and inspiring. My favorite of these videos so far as I explore building a buffing machine. One thing got me thinking. The SM machine is mostly because of the size of the buffing wheels rather than the RPMs. The speed (linear velocity) on the surface of a 12" wheel at 750 RPMs is about 27 mph. A 6" wheel at 650 RPMs has a speed of about 12 mph. But if you put the 12" wheels on the DIY buffer going 650 RPMs the speed will be about 23 mph. If you like the slower speed of the DIY machine, you may want to keep the smaller wheels. That makes more difference than the RPMs

    Thank you ! Very informative. I've been gathering parts and pieces to cobble together a buffer myself for a couple of years now. I believe that I have everything now with the exception of the motor and pulleys. I acquired the pillow block bearings a few years ago off a job I was working on, the bearings were brand new and the company was cleaning up the site and shops, and they were going to be thrown away (the amount of waste in industrial construction and maintenance is jaw dropping) so I rescued them. I got the shaft from another job about a year ago, fortunately I work in a mechanical, and maintenance role and was able to have one of our on-site machinist to cut it to length, cut a keyway in the center for the pulley, and cut and thread the ends to accept a 12 inch buff. I have kind of been letting the project languish in the barn for the last year though, I need to start actually looking for a decent motor for it, and pick up some pulleys, which of course, I can't do until I find a motor (need to know the horse power, and rpm of the motor to calculate pulley size needed). But hopefully I'll get it done pretty soon, it would be nice anyway.

    • @Ninety2guits
      @Ninety2guits 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For these early builds I used 22gauge mild steel. I've since switched to 24 gauge to save some weight but it's harder to work with, you have to control the heat to avoid warping the 24 gauge. 22 gauge makes a 9.2 pound resonator, if that weight is ok to you it's definitely easier to use 22 gauge.
