Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening Everyone! Sammy Thunder Here! Welcome Back to the Channel! I've been making TH-cam content since March of 2021.
My content schedule will typically be three videos a week (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday at 5PM EST as well as one or two livestreams a week (Thursday - Cardboard & Cold Ones @ 8PM EST and Sunday - Vintage Chill & Chat @ 7PM EST).
My collecting focus has been on six particular athletes. They are Christy Mathewson, Willie Mays, Bill Russell, Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan and Larry Bird. I like to try and find some rare food, drink, tobacco, gum or promotional cards celebrating the listed players above. I enjoy the historical significance surrounding the cards I collect. Part of collecting for me is the story and history behind not only the player, but the card as well.
My channel will be driven by Card Show Tours, Card Shop Tours, SGC Reveals, Community Collaborations and so much more! Please enjoy!

Deep Dive - Ep. 2 Bob Laughlin Baseball Cards & Sports Memorabilia - How did they come to exist?
When it comes to the love of our baseball cards collection, we tend to love the look, the feel, maybe even the smell? What I also love about baseball cards is the history behind it all.
Today, we look into the history of a very important artist in the baseball cards and sports memorabilia world. That artist is named Bob Laughlin. I have spoken a number of times about the Laughlin Super Stand Up's. However, sometimes when I bring up Laughlin's name in conversation, I don't get a lot of people recognizing his name. I thought about it and figured, let's make a Deep Dive episode celebrating his career and artistry!
So, take a journey with me into this new series and hopefully you'll leave with some curiosity of your own!

When it comes to really any of our baseball cards in our collection, we love the look, the feel, maybe even the smell? What I love about baseball cards is the history behind it all. I remember having a discussion at the Strongsville show last year with Dave of @Bluejacket66 and we talked a bit about the history of some pre war baseball cards. I became fascinated with not only the look of the ca...

Today was Day 2. I decided to head back to the first ever Lucky's Sports Card Show at the County Center in White Plains, NY. As expected, the entire floor was filled with some great vintage sports cards. A real variety as well. A lot of these bigger sports card shows bring out dealers you normally wouldn't see at some of the smaller shows. Today was far busier than yesterday's and the navigatio...

To me, it's quite amazing to think that I couldn't find this card at The National Sports Card Show this past year. It took some digging to find one, but I'm super thrilled to finally check this card off. That's right @mookiechillson, no more trolling me at shows! The time has come! If y'all know, y'all know! My Biggest Vintage Sports Memorabilia Collection Pickup of 2024! - Story of How This Deal Happened!

So, 2024 has been an incredible year in both vintage sports memorabilia collection pickups and sports cards pickups. I could've created video that showcases all the pickups, but I thought that I'd highlight one particular pickup that stands out. Back in June, I received a notification about a collector who has one of the biggest Willie Mays Sports Memorabilia Collections out there. Could be the...

Enjoyed the breakdown Sammy! I knew squat about these before this video, and only even knew of them at all because of your Mays purchase.
really nice artwork and great standup you have. its sweet!!!! thumbs up
Hi Sammy. Another awesome segment. Those stand ups are just incredible and you have a real beauty. Thanks for sharing my friend, talk soon pal.
Laughlin did great work. I’ve got my Ted Williams front and center on my shelf
Baseball Nostalgia shop was partly originally owned by Mike Aronstein. Of tcma notoriety
Fascinating stuff and person. Thanks for sharing. 🤛🏻 I don’t think I realized until this vid just how big those are.
That Laughlin Mays is a true treasure and a piece of art!! You are fortunate to have that as a part of your collection Sammy!!
Great video. I have a few Bob Laughlin cards. I remember when you could buy an entire set from Bob in the early 70’s. Back then $10 was expensive for me. Of course you could buy a house in Southern California for under $25,000 back then.
Great research Sammy, very informative video.
Gave a video like. Really enjoyed hearing more about these and seeing the website. Very cool! Thanks for sharing, Sammy
How do you price these? I see a few I’d like on eBay, but the prices are very steep.
Thanks, Sammy. I really didn’t know Bob Laughlin until last week when I purchased one of his 1980 cards of Walt Dropo. I thought it was pretty cool. I didn’t know he did everything you showed in your video. Thanks for that. Take care.
Interesting topic. Learned a good bit. Keep sharing the knowledge.
Thanks Mike.
Jay- great interview. My #1 target at Strongsville is Lefty Grove. If I see the Diamond Stars I will keep you in mind
Great discussion and cool to again see how so many of our early collecting stories and how we got back in the hobby are similar. Congrats on the channel @jayavgvintagecollector - I added a sub to your total!
Nice video Sammy!
Thank you Huck!
I love this idea for a series. You should have a subtitle of “Welcome to the rabbit hole do pre-war”. I know I had a few of these way back when I type collected but honestly can’t remember which players were represented. You Mathewson is beautiful. I love the sunset background.
Thanks Drew. It will be a lot of fun to explore more of these sets in the coming weeks.
Fun live-stream. Awesome getting to learn a bit more about, Jay.
Thanks Andrew.
Every time I see that Mays Coke Card I think its Monte! GREAT VID! Enjoyed the LIVE tonight as well⚾
Thank you. For some reason, I remember reading an article somewhere that suggested that the drawing on the card is actually Monte Irvin and not Willie Mays.
Thx for the history. Really interesting. Cheers.
Thank you Dave.
Nice video Sammy
Thank you Peter.
What a great new series! I am definitely looking forward to more of these. Thanks for the video and thanks for sharing!
Thank you Jay.
I actually like these cards. A good looking design but I like the bigger horizontal cards. It’s crazy to revisit your oldest videos much different collecting back when you first started your TH-cam channel.
It was considerably different back then. I like the Topps Big Cards as well. They're fun.
These cards are so beautiful! Very educational, Sammy. Thanks, my friend!
Thank you Billy.
Well done Sammy! Thanks for the cool history! Love the Mathewson! 🤩 Congratulations!
Thank you so much.
I wonder if Hershey had anything to do with American Caramel's demise? Those old-timey magnates were cut-throat. That Coke news is Very exciting! I'm hoping they surprise you with some crazy new old stock or a promo piece as a gift... I mean it's good press for Coca-Cola in another light, maybe it inspires them to delve back into the hobby some? Make it happen, my friend, that is too cool they even responded!
Hershey knew something. His feeling was that Caramel was in at the time of the sale, but he was playing the long game with chocolate. I'm just hoping for a response from Coca Cola. So far, no response. I'll give it a few more days.
@@SammyThunder Well I'm hoping for you buddy, that would be totally cool. I also wondered to myself while watching your video - maybe Hershey put something addictive in the recipe? I mean Coca-Cola used to have cocaine in it!
Great episode Sammy fun to learn about these cards we love 🤙🤙
Thank you Dylan.
Sammy, congrats on tracking down and obtaining the epic 1968 bazooka "gum-stick" Seaver! So happy for you, my collecting brother! 😊👊
Thank you Adam.
Hi Sammy. I really love this new series you’re putting out. Thanks for sharing my friend, talk soon pal.
Thank you Stephen.
Thanks for sharing Sammy
Thank you Orlando.
I love the history of early E,D,M etc cards.. I might add American Caramel was born out of acquisition of Breisch- Hine ( see e107 Breisch- Williams) and the Lancaster Caramel co which maintained Hershey. IMO !!! American Caramel co. Cards are uninspiring ( in fact my view is the E91 set is the worst candy cards ever made)…I will say the e106 matty may be one of the most beautiful cards ever made. None the less… Standard Caramel, Williams caramel , a bunch of confectioners etc etc were MUCH smaller companies but set the bar high for early candy cards.
Thanks Dave. I didn't know that there was an additional acquisition with Breisch to form the ACC. I'm looking at the e107's. What are your thoughts on them?
@ Andrew has a Cy Young e107. The Mathewson is to the moon expensive. I don’t own any… they’re pretty bland. I appreciate them, but don’t have an interest
Hi Sammy. That was a fun and informative video. I always enjoy learning about new cards/sets and I did not know much the American Caramel Company. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to future episodes.
Thank you Jim.
I love a little history. Nice job.
Thank you.
Awesome stuff Sammy! Thanks for sharing. The American Caramels, in particular E90-1, are some of the best prewar cards ever made. A set worth celebrating!
Thank you Adam!
Terrific christy love it octavio
Thank you!
Awesome detail Sammy! Love this as a new segment. Extremely educational!
Thanks Jason
Love the series. Great information! Beautiful Matty!
Thank you Eric.
Great idea. LOVE other PreWar Type Back Card collectors. Let me show you my channel so we can learn and expose PreWar Type cards youtube.com/@prewartypecardcollecting6166?si=Sdx5QE3SXsUCKxL2
I'll take a look. Thanks.
Nice job Sammy , i really like this idea 💡. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Doug! More to come!
Love the American Caramel cards. Great info!
Thanks Tony
Really good video, Sammy. I like this concept. I don't know much about history of the companies, that produced cards from over a 100 years ago, and I am sure there probably others who could garner a lot of knowledge, too. Looking forward to this series, and congrats on getting the ground running.
Thanks Andrew. The Coca Cola 52 set is next.
Great new series Sammy!! Awesome Mathewson card!! Thanks for the lesson!! Look forward to learning more about the baseball card sets!!
Thank you!
Great info Sammy!
Thank you Scott!
Looking forward to future episodes Sammy.
Perfect! Thank you.
Hey Sammy! First like! Really think this is a good series for your channel!
Thanks CK!
Great start of the week! Some fantastic submissions. Love the image of the Seaver stadium club card.
It's a great image!
Hi Sammy. I really enjoy this segment. As always, we get to see some incredible cards. Never get tired of seeing your pickups. That Mays Berks Ross is still a beauty in that grade. Congrats on this new edition. Thanks for sharing my friend, talk soon pal.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching!
More excellent pickups folks! That Sporting News is insane... That O-Pee-Chee is an 8 all day! Great T206's and awesome high-end Boog for Jay. Nice snag on the Berk Ross Sammy!
Thanks for the kind words, really enjoyed putting this one together! There were some fantastic submissions here!
@@SammyThunder Indeed!
Great batch. That Grover is fantastic. That Mays is crazy. Awesome one.
Thanks, man! I agree. That Grover is a beast.
I really liked that Boog and the Ryan. Great cards. Thumbs Up. Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year to you as well!
Love this series! Thank you for showing my card. Some great looking stuff! That Grover Alexander is very cool! Thanks for the video!
