A reminder that just because someone is lesbian, gay, bisexual, trangender, queer, or same-sex attracted, doesn't mean they aren't spiritual, Christian, or Mormon. Mormon and gay are not antithetical, or oxymorons. Especially in light of recent anti-discrimination and religious rights legislation, remember that this is not an 'us verses them' battle - there are people caught in the middle. Ther...

    But, they don't let gays "act on it" if they go there, do they? They basically tell them to pretend to be straight? I'm Mormon, but my bishop told me that I should do what I feel is best for me and what I feel is best for me is to have a boyfriend and hopefully a husband.

    The transgender male to female raised a question. I wonder what the church feels on a female gay member who marries a male to female who happens to be into females, and conversely how they feel about a male gay member marrying a female to male who happens to be into guys. Now if the church believes that you are the sex you are when you are born, than doing something like this would not be against church rules because technically that person would be in a heterosexual relationship.

      kuabci it's not that hard to understand lol. if a girl marries a girl who was born as a boy, wouldn't that not be against church rules, if the church believes that you can't change what gender you were born with? i don't know if the scenario would ever come up in real life but it's an interesting question to raise.

    Nothing but covert harassment... every bit of it. Using the word "heathen" out of scripture to address us might be trying to be funny. Or it's covert harassment and slander. Sure, it's fair to say we need him. And easy to say we don't need this. That's the message. "do us a favor and decide you will leave on your own". Clearly that's what they are doing here. Covertly harassing and alienating gay offspring under the guise of love. " and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile." 2 Nephi 26:33 That's the scripture you use for gay's?

      If I understand right, they included the scripture because, if it were written in the modern day when differences in sexuality are better understood, it would say "black and white, LGBT and straight." I'm sorry you felt it was an isolating video, but I believe their intended takeaway is a reminder that God loves everyone and that there faithful LGBT Mormons

    From watching this video it was quite clear what your message was. You could have started off with showing your sexuality and your differences from the BYU Campus. Instead you choose to make this video Christ centered by making his message first. Your statement of inclusion, from the inside out, is refreshing. The other movements who try to change the Church from the outside in, have been offensive. Thank you for creating a message that sustains the Savior in all ways!

    I'm sorry, but the mere existence of homosexuality (or, actually, any sexuality other than heterosexuality) invalidates mormonism. The way that the church has made claims about the family and its role in the eternities requires heterosexuality across the board. Even the idea that those who are gay can change after they die makes no sense. Being gay I can say that I would never want to be straight, and that the LDS church does nothing but try to make the lives of anyone that it deems to be 'different' harder.

    • @tylerarmstrong917
      @tylerarmstrong917 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also specifically states in the Proclamation to THE FAMILY! Maybe its just families. But just because the proclaimation says you have to "Be straight pretty much or else your screwed" doesn't mean they can't worship or have same privileges. Im sure you have just as many faults as anyone else. Nobody's perfect, but were all us in the end. Thats what matters...

      +Zach M Huh? Mankind is possessed of all sorts of diverse inclinations, sexual and otherwise. Does the man tempted by adultery also invalidate Mormonism? LDS doctrine proscribes behaviors, not inclinations, Zach. It's all very, very simple.

    • @tylerarmstrong917
      @tylerarmstrong917 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The proclamation is actually not specific cited scripture or straight forward god's word. It was just written in Hawaii by a organized group and adopted into the church...So it can't be validated as a real reason to treat the LGBT community as anything other than the accepted idea of a "Family." Homosexuality and everything in between is just fine. You are who you are at the end of the day I think god understands that, so people should not be acting like they know better. If you are a true mormon and if you are committed to god you will not question or challenge his ways because "You know more" than he does. He is perfect we are al imperfect we should be the last to question his ways. And the church has not acted outward in any real serious ways that should promote the message we should discriminate against them. That is not God. That is the members of the church. People, who have shunned children of god for their differences. You will love everyone and accept everyone for who they are. Don't judge people by the chapter you walked in on...you don't know their hearts, and you are not any higher than them. Love all. Respect all. And trust in God that he knows what is true and mandatory. At the end of the day, we can all just be true to ourselves and let the ultimate judge decide. Regardless. God, sexuality, and all gender identities a completely real and valid. And all are just as perfect and important as god's eyes. I would hope they are in yours too. "Love thy neighbor as thy self." For he who stand before god at the last day with pure intentions of their heart will prevail. Those who show unconditional love. Revelation 20:12, D&C 76:111, 1 Nephi 15:32, Abraham 3:25-28. Here's something straight from the lord...Doctrine and Covenants 137: 9 "For I, the Lord, will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts." What makes these people in this video any less? If their intentions are just as pure and faithful as any, what makes them so sinful and repulsive to some of the inhabitants of this church? Their sexuality? The way they were BORN? Should we start punishing children now who have down syndrome or autism because the way the behave, because of how they were born, inconveniences us sometimes? No. They are just as moral as any. There are just as VALID. And in no way, should we cast them out, and shame them for their differences. These people are just as worthy. Everyone is. Just Love. Do not shame.I think at the last day these people will be no different. They will be gay as mortals and for eternity because there is nothing wrong with that. The church has done some things that make this seem unsure...and really all of it is quite unsure to anything we have delt with before. We all need to stop this disgusting idea that it's some game of "Us against them." It's just US. It isn't the church. It isn't the LGBT community. We are all perfect in gods eyes. It is some members, just the mere existence of HUMANITY and our flaws that make these ideas seem acceptable. It is simply there is not a lot on the church about it right now, nor should the LGBT community be so demonizing of that. But the church has not been the kindest in some of their recent actions either. I don't believe this church is out to get gay people and make their lives miserable nor are gay people trying to get the church. They are just very real problems coming up in the doctrine from some of it's members. The fact they may not be the most convenient should not mean that they should not be validated and looked into. I think all of us will be just fine in the end once we learn that god and gays are had and hand and should not be out to get each other. I myself am transgender and have been in the church my whole life and for as long as I can, I have no intention to leave. I don't believe the church is doing everything right as of now but neither are we as a community. We need to be understanding of this process. I mean, look at what happened with African Americans in the church? these discriminatory behaviors are of society and the people within it , NOT GOD. I may get kicked out of the church eventually. I may be married in the temple as a MAN one day like my dads black friend did just last month. There is a lot we don't know and a lot to learn. In the mean time it probably will get a lot worse before it gets better. But we are all humans and are all important and should treat others with the same mindset. Life is hard enough as it is this test is not easily accomplished...but is it necessary to have this mindset in which we are making it harder for others. Not just the church...Not just the LGBT. ALL of us are doing it to ourselves. So sit back, and think. Do we really need to point the fingers ANYWHERE AT ALL? it's not just her fault or theirs. It's ours. It's his. It's hers and theres and grandmas and dads. We are all flawed and that is why, if anything, we need god and each other help mend us.

    This is sooo gross. Mormons are gross. BYU is gross. Why in an "it gets better" video did you choose to use the Mormon propaganda term "same gender attraction", trying to make it out to be some sort of clinical abnormality? It's very gross and indecent that the Mormon church, who have fought so relentlessly against equal rights, would put out a piece of propaganda like this

    • @elgingersnap2444
      @elgingersnap2444 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Avery Alvarez This isn't the church, it's a sincere effort by a group of students to reach out to those who are Mormon in the closet. The Mormon/Gay struggle is very intense so it's not easy to find a phrase that replaces "same gender attraction" when you're trying to figure yourself out and that phrase is the only term you hear growing up. You're obviously not Mormon or you wouldn't be so ignorant.

    Mormonism has a warped view on sexuality. It treats homosexuality as if it is "unnatural" or "sinful," which it is not. Also, it says you should wait until marriage, but humans are sexual in nature, so the repression of sex is harmful, and dangerous.There is nothing wrong with having sex before marriage, and it is best to have sex before marriage, so you can see if your sex life will be good. Marriage is a life long commitment, so it is best to know if the person you are marrying can please you sexually, because sex is a large part of any relation, rather it be gay or straight. Also, sex is not just for "reproduction," it is for pleasure, and intimacy. The leaders of Mormonism, need a "revelation" to have a more realistic view on sexuality, because their view is primitive, and outdated.

We're looking for people who grew up immersed around a certain mentality, that they've chosen to break from or hope to break away from. This doc series focuses on breaking out of hatred & discrimination. If you know someone or are someone who wants to share their story, please reach out. Compensation offered.
