A wonderful insight into wartime life on South Tyneside, told by real people!
Worked here in the early 80s when the building was being refurbished.I put the lead on the roof. My initals and date will be on the capping pieces..I recall it was bitter cold weather, coldest few weeks of my life
My parents lived in Cone Street, my six brothers and sisters were born there.
Home ❤
What a wonderful storey of Amy Flagg she was so a head of her time ❤️
My grandparent (Richardson) had a newsagents on the market place in the post war years until the 80s. Thank you Janis for the insight of your piece and evoking childhood memories.
The 2nd l.p was so good.... Then they became reds & that was the end. *Rock against communism* 🇮🇲
Ned Kelly! 🙌🏼 Anyone know if Ned is still around? He must be in his early 80s nowadays.
Very good. The lady said, I'll paraphrase, "I'm Catholic, and I'm proud to have a religion." Not _the_ religion. I'm not a good Catholic, but I think it's the only valid-true religion. I love what you presented here.
Please the music is too loud, it make it difficult to hear what people are saying
My Dad,Grandad, great grandad and great great grandad were all South Shields born, I was born in North Shields and my son in Durham. I enjoyed that. Thanks it was a very interesting watch. 👍
Little Big town
I used to go to the Middle Club, the Top club, Brighams and the British legion. Very happy days with my dad. He played harmonica in all of the clubs. Its a tradition we should all try to continue.
Great video. In the early 1990's I lived in Shields where I worked at the Gazette. I always loved the area and the people and this video along with your others brought back some memories. Many thanks for that.
Glad you enjoyed it
An interesting topic ,i could go on about . There was a boom in the 70,s .i saw lenny hendry . Bobby Thomson he always sold out. John miles, Highfly /music.
Outstanding look back at history
Came here via Wifedom. Great story. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome!
By all accounts a dubious half fictionalised book.
I was born and bred in Southfamily working in the coal mines. Arthur Scargill and his cronies completely misrepresented
Should have read - I was born and bred in South Shields. Some of my family worked in the coal mines. Arthur Scargill and his cronies completely misrepresented the situation as the mines were already doomed. Scargill thought he could topple a democratically elected Government. He had the luxury of two homes and a car funded by the miners while they struggled to make ends meet,
Bolingbroke hall gig . Unbelievable it changed my life forever.
This is a beautiful video. It’s so informative and a great little history of what went on. Thanks gary x
All our grandparents went through and now the police are deliberately letting the disgusting immigrants destroy Remembrance Sunday, makes me cry
Great trip down memory lane I was there when Ali was at the Mosque he shook my hand I was 12 year old great video 👍👍👍👍👍
Was a great day. I was near the market at the top of King Street watching Ali on his open topped bus.

Born in South Shields in 56, joined the army in 75 and was posted to Germany in 76. I have lived in Germany ever since. But I still consider Shields to be home.

The memories this awoke, born in N. Shields but spent many happy days on the South side as a cadet at S. Shields Marine Tech. Now living in Ontario, Canada but always a geordie with the river and its people in my blood. Many thanks for this, there's a ton of stories out there, our music, comedy, the people and the place all to be told, there are a number of sights on you tube extolling the virtues of the NE and none have a bad thing to say.

The Devil is the Father of Lies.
Someone ought to write a biography of this man and it should start by questioning every single thing he he has said about himself. Was he really a student at the Sorbonne for instance, was he ever entitled to call himself Baron, what high honours did he really receive, if any, etc., etc. Then his numerous books attacking the Catholic Church should be examined and the lies and distortions therein exposed. He made a tidy little fortune from his books of lies and had the field largely to himself. He admitted later in life that the people he admired were Ian Paisley, Enoch Powell and the National Front and even said he was a Nazi. Very peculiar tastes indeed for someone who was Jewish - as peculiar as his adopted name, Avro Manhattan.
@@ennardfan8080 thanks for the interesting comment. Can you point me to the article/publication that he 'admired the National Front and was a Nazi'.
Spent. Many holidays there in the 70s. Lovely place😅😅😅😅
Interesting and illuminating. I was in the 2nd archaeology intake at Durham in 1975, and I don't remember the 1st observation walk around the city Rosie mentioned. Must have been a later development. I did admire her work at Jarrow/Monkwearthmouth but despite having applied to Durham specifically to do A-S and Viking archaeology, I was pushed off to other sites and so ended up as an archaeologist (as I was before, having entered as a mature student) and then became a quasi-Romanist. I was, however, saddened by the news of her recent death...
Brilliant Work mate 😅😅
Sad to hear of her passing yesterday RIP.
Great to see, I lived beside the Beacon pub. There's nowhere as lovely to live as The Lawe Top. Lovely to see these familiar faces and places I love.
I really enjoyed this video thank you. My ancestors lived in Jarrow and worked at Palmers. So far they are English and possibly Scottish but I'm hoping to find some Irish ancestors too.
Thank you for this😌🙏 Yes quite interesting isn't it, Orwell was staying in a rented cottage owned by one of the most hereditary satanic British/German/American families there is, the Astor family😌😑 Judeo-Masonic Zionism has it's very distinctive place in this story and our shared history, if you didn't quite realise it yet
great video lived in biddick hall remember the percy huddson youth club
Happy days
It's always interesting to see what Germany bombed, always poor areas
Sadly it's always poor areas that border legitimate targets such as shipyards and night bombing was wildly inaccurate during the early 40's.
Thank you. I really enjoyed the video. I used to travel to Whitley Bay every morning using the ferry from South to North Shields and travelling back late afternoon. it was an important part of my life and I loved to observe the weather changes.
