Pantheon with Hawgs | 3 sessions in 24 hours
Hi. Truly an amazing time of just practicing. Seems so simple, but having just come off a 48 hour water only fast-I needed to be cautious in my energy output-especially in humid heat in San Antonio, Texas.
Here is the climbing video:
th-cam.com/video/iV8OtbuSHmY/w-d-xo.html
My take aways from these 3 condensed sessions:
1) warm up with crouch (squat) to have functional movement & mobility. I’m more confident in stand up and don’t spend much time in the lower position.
2) in the tuck, I like my right knee top corner just behind the left outer back of knee.
3) reviewing my videos periodically to make sure I’m weighting my front foot. Simple, but it’s still a conscious thought and not instinct / muscle memory yet.
4) I liked the harder kick starts on the Pantheon skateboard and felt in control/balance.
5) the hawgs were a different wheel and could feel the road much better. Actually first scared me and didn’t like the feeling, but I got use to them and love them.

    Gotta love Hawgs thane for slides. There's a mod you can add to prevent your front foot slipping on heelside slides. It's called a toestop; Scythe has a really nice one. BTW, is the weird sound just the Cuei's lips interacting with the pavement? Nothing out of the ordinary if you ask me. They are just trying to grip. edit: Or is it the bearings not rolling anymore? Do the wheels have a lot of friction when you try to free spin them?

    • @cantskate5535
      @cantskate5535 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Truthfully not really sure on the sound. I changed them out. I will have to check the Cuei bearings and maybe the inside is touching the truck? Odd though since they were on before and no issues. I’ll try the other foot stop, too. Thanks.

    Nice work! That last one you did at 4:47 was noticeably better. You see how the back knee was tucked in toward your front leg further? I love the deer in your vids! This is a great spot, imo. Btw, If you tend to low-side onto your pants' pockets when you wash out, one of the best mods you could do (for your pants) would be double-layered leather pants' pockets - stitched right on top of the current pockets. Also, if I see a drain where my board could slip through that is near a must-slide area, I'd usually park my car right in front of the drain. There could still be a chance the board could slip past the tires and right into the drain, but personally, I feel a lot more at ease than seeing the full drain. You could put down some traffic cones too (lay them on their sides work better for this purpose, imo). Additionally, something else to note is that dumpers tend to flat spot easier. It's just the trade-off for dumping thane. So wheels like these Milkshakes or Abec11 Classic Thane wheels require better technique and control (to not slide at 90-degrees) than the likes of Snakes and Peels (which are pretty resistant to flat spotting). If you've never tried Abec11 Classic Thane, you should, it's the urethane I learned so many things on. Check out the website called Sk8gear - out of their current line-up, I dig the 72mm 81A Centerset Freerides the most. The 72mm 81A (offset) Freerides are good too - they're slidier, but I personally love centerset wheels for their flippability. (edit: Abec11 Classic Thane are huge dumpers.)

Furtunatelly i had powell snakes on the board so it was buttersmooth, and worked first try. But i watched maybe 50 videos on how to do a proper standy and did 100 trys on carpet with the deck only. Those are the four top boards I have specifically for downhill. Do some research before buying one, you tube, reviews, etc. and remember it’s highly subjective - and each set up is unique to each rider - noob like me or pro. You can google suppliers or the two ones I primarily use are Muirskate and Motion Board Shop. @@cantskate5535 I love driving too. Clears my mind. But yeah, when I drive, I'm too busy enjoying the drive to be looking for hills. lol I felt like the speed at which you were swinging fro and back for that slide @ 3:56 was ideal for an easier time to get back on the board. The quicker the swingback, the easier it will be to stand back up (the forward swing's speed isn't as crucial). However, with practice and experience, you'll later on be able to stand back up from a Coleman at any swingback speed. Your muscles will learn to adapt to the different speeds. But for now, I'd say go for a quick swingback as it is a little easier to practice standing back up. Good luck and enjoy!!!

      @@cantskate5535 Grabbing rail usually means more braking. Combine that with sticky wheels, and you may end up highsiding if you don't slowly adjust to the extra braking. That's one of the reasons why I don't like to change wheels mid-session, my brain is still adapted to the previous wheels, and it does cause problems. When changing wheels, I usually have to start over from doing warm up carves all over again. Then keep increasing speed slowly.

    Hey again =) You inspired me to improve my pendelum slides. I don`t know if you always intended to do a pendulum slide, or if you want to shut down with a coleman slide? You have to do me a favour =) I have a little challenge for you if you are interested : As downhill / freeride skaters we want to go fast , but if we wanna break there a several slide options. So the Challenge is : Everytime when you feel it under your feet that the pendulum is stable, try to push you up from the ground, back in your stance and skate further down the hill. I saw it several times in your latest videos, a almost perfect pendulum and then you stop. But i know you can do it =) Try the pendulum as a break, to skate further. In the beginning its hard because of muscle memory and strengh. I do many pushups and squats every day. That helped a lot, and its good for your body anyway. As always nice video, the torgue block and the slap works fine in your setup🛹🛹🛹

      Thank you and yes, the intention was pendulum slides to first stop, then momentarily break, but continue. I’m up for the challenge. Typically just practice shutdown to ensure I can stop. Now that I’m including various training things-continuing on - consistently is another one. Thank you for the encouragement. 🤘

    hey =) cool to see that you try to improve on narrow trucks. We talked about it in the last video =). I have a cruiser Board (31 inch) with almost the exact shape as the Pantheon Lisa Peters. There is not much concave and no drops i think. You have only the wheel flares as a reference point. Your phoenix has 2 nice drops. big wheel flares , and you ride a torgue Block too right? If you look at the try at 1:06 you can see that you are not "locked in" to the Deck, that why you feel of the Board. The Lisa Peters Pantheon is significantly harder to ride. But I´m in Love with 9 inch single Kicks 🛹❤ that why i ordered my Rocket Leon v2 yesterday haha. love your content, and sry for the bad english.
