Welcome to the In Her Skein knitting podcast! My name is Marie-Eve and I’m a Canadian knitter currently living in Italy. I created this channel as a creative outlet to document all of my makes and I would love to welcome you in this space if you wish to follow along my making journey :)
I Accidentally Hopped on the Vlogmas Train | Making Gifts & My Christmas Outfit
Hi everyone! I wanted to give vlogging a try to hopefully document my projects a little bit better! In doing so during this time of the year, I accidentally filmed my first Vlogmas episode. I'm not done quite yet with my Christmas outfit and making little gifts, so there will most likely be a part 2 coming soon! If not, I wish you all happy holidays if you are celebrating, and lots of relaxing knitting time. Lots of love xox

Hi Marie-Ève 🤗 I really enjoyed your vlog, you should definitely make more of those 😊 I love your dress, I wish I could sew . About the mohair blouse, I say "Go for it!" , you have enough time 😊 I wish you and your loved ones Merry Christmas and a happy New year 🥰
Sweet little fresa! So gorgeous on you ❤ Lovely vlogmas, indeed!
What sweater are you wearing in this video? Thank you.
Good to see you! Love the dress! ❤️
Beautiful dress! It fits you so well. Don’t cover it up with a sweater. I do like your black top underneath, but I’m not sure the look you want.
Wait a minute, do you live in or near Padova? I think I recognize the square with the Christmas tree. Padova is the city where I grew up :) Lovely vlog by the way (still watching it as I'm writing this) 🥰
Ahh no way!! Yes, we live closer to Vicenza but my husband grew up in Padova so we are there quite often as well! It’s the tree close to Caffè Pedrocchi! 🤗
💖💖💖💖
🤗🤗🤗
🤍🤍🤍 joyeuses fêtes petite douceur 🤍🤍🤍
Merci! Joyeuses fêtes 🤗💕
I had to giggle when I heard the goats, the chainsaw and the motor bike all competing to be heard - the goats won! Looks so beautiful up there in the mountains ❤
Pure chaos 😂 It’s usually a very calm place! Hahah
I love the idea of colorwork on the foot of a sock. Here in America, many people wear their sandals, such as Birkenstocks with socks year round and with socks. This is a great way to show off a knitted sock when it is worn under pants, etc.
Ohh yes I agree! ☺️
Truly a gorgeous green! Thank you for the pattern and I think that's a pretty creative way to sell a colorwork motif! I appreciate all the new to me designers and yarn dyers!
Thank you so much! 💕
Thank you very much for your care with my yarn,. And congrats for the beautiful patterns.
Thank you 🥰 Your yarn is such a joy to work with and it smells wonderfully sheepy 💕
Marie-Eve, thank you so much for the sock pattern. I have not ventured into colorwork yet, but your project looks very doable, and the Bacca pattern appears to be written simply enough that even I can understand it. I don’t knit anything but socks and the occasional cowl, and I’m very new to knitting, so I appreciate all the help and advice I can get. Your sock designs are all so beautiful.
You’re so welcome! It makes me happy to hear that you want to give colorwork a shot! 😄 It can be difficult to have a good tension on the first project, but then it gets much easier! I hope you’ll enjoy it! 🥰
Clever idea to issue the toile/tela socks with expansion packs! One per season would be neat! 🎉
I’m glad you think so! 🥰
Thank you so much for your kind words Marie-Ève. I am so happy to know that the yarn has brought you joy. I, too, struggled to capture the colour on film. It was a rather special dyepot that created a bit of magic, and I am delighted that you are the one to knit with it. I'm so happy to see you knitting with Marisas yarn too as I hold her in very high regard. Anyway, I won't carry on gushing because I am prone to a good gush, and I do think ever such a lot of you, so I could go on and on! Lots of love to you and your cat! Cate
Gush all you want ;) I never get tired of reading your kind words 🤗 And I’m having so much fun knitting with your yarns!! Lots of love 💕
❤@@inherskein
My ADHD got distracted for a moment there but you had me right back with mentioning Estonian inlay (I´m Estonian). The motif is stunning btw! Sadly I´ve never used that technie before myself.
You must try it! It’s so fun to work up 😀
Our toes are the part of our bodies that are the furthest from the heart…so it stands to reason that they would be the coldest.😁😁
It does make sense!! Sometimes I think mine forget that they are part of my body at all 🤣
@ 😂😂 💗
I love your idea of the expansion😊 I will use it to knit my first colorwork socks. I knitted socks with ovis and got holes. Will either pair them with mohair or size down needles as you mentioned 🙃
I’m happy to hear you like it!! And pairing that yarn with mohair is also a great idea! 😀
Love your new designs! Also, as you mentioned the translations, I'd be happy to translate (some of?) your designs to Czech, if you'd be interested. I haven't knitted any of your designs so far, but I've been loving them for sooo long! Finally, Fiorellini Socks and Granina Socks are pretty high in my queue. I've been sick this week and I am thinking about casting one of them on. :D
Thank you so much for offering!! I will definitely reach out when I’m ready to take this step, hopefully sometime in the near future 😊 And I can’t wait to see your socks!!
Omg you did the 56 stitches!!!! Thank you!! I'm so excited. I'm thinking color work toes will definitely keep things warmer. I think the color work foot will look nice with a pair of Birkenstock sandals or something too. Oh those mitten's are my name and they are gorgeous I need them!! I will look out for the test knit call
Ohh yes that would look so cute!! 😍
Thank you💖!! I think the expansion idea is great ☺️
You’re welcome 😊 and I’m glad you think so!! 🥰
You are so generous! Thank you! I'm excited to try your sock. Your patterns are always so beautiful!
You are so welcome! 🥰
Thanks so much for the pattern. Beautiful Christmas 🎁🧦
Happy holidays! 🤗
The Prato Socks are such a beauty! And it's definitely super interesting to hear about the struggles and the process of designing (as someone who's never done that), thanks for sharing!
Thank you 🥰
I’m so excited! I couldn’t wait to buy your Pointelle socks pattern and now it is mine 🥰
Ohh this makes me so happy! Happy knitting!! 🥰
So glad! Well, you are so talented and thanks for creating them and the podcasts. Also, on my bucket list is to make a crochet cardigan like yours. So lovely 🥰
Love the look of your new sock design. Such an intricate detail on the cuff! I would love to test for you!
Thank you 🥰 the test call is now closed, but stay tuned for future designs, there’s a lot brewing in my head!
I think the sweater design you’re working on is quite unique and definitely worth continuing with. The shaping is lovely if you can work it out. I imagine it would be a similar process to the calculate your own bust shaping options.
Thank you! And yes, it would be similar!
Wow! Thank you for all the steps a designer must go through to publish a pattern. Love your new sock pattern coming out. I like the feminine side to your patterns, flowers, scallops etc.
Thank you 🥰
Love all your sock patterns. I'm not a sock knitter but am about to become one. The sweater you are knitting from the Nocciole yarn is very beautiful and I'm hoping that becomes one of your patterns. All your projects are lovely!
That’s so lovely to hear 🥰
Oh Marie, your Prato socks are so beautiful & feminine. I actually loved the idea of the twisted stitches & flower going all the way down the sock 🫶
Thank you! 🥰 And me too.. I might have to make that version also some day! 😀
Your socks look so beautiful 😍 and the doppio is such an amazing construction!
Thanks 🥰 And yes, I agree! Such a fun knit too!!
Marie, the sound of your new camera is great. I love the brown crochet blanket. Maybe you can sow a light fabric onto the backside so the structure of the grannies can be seen better. Have a great day!
That’s a great idea! I will keep that in mind for a blanket, but it’s also a good idea for a cushion cover 😀 Have a great day!
Marie, your Prato socks are absolutely beautiful! I love the way you’ve almost underlined the cuff pattern with the braid. Haven’t seen that before. All that effort was very worth it! Xx
Thank you so much!💕
I actually really love how the flower-in-the-rib sock looks, i would make something like that for sure if you ever revisit that design. The meadow design is stunning too! The flowers remind me of La Cholla cacti like you see in Joshua tree!
I really liked it too before seeing it in that yarn.. maybe it’s just a yarn issue! I’ll have to try with another sock yarn! And yes that’s so true!! 🌵
Absolutely love the Prato socks, will definitely purchase when your pattern is released ❤
Thank you!! 🥰
Love the socks! And the mill sounds so cool, really excited to see your coat! I'm am just starting to ventures into some sewing😅
Thank you 🥰 And that’s so exciting! The coat will definitely be my biggest project to date.. hopefully it will go smoothly 😅
I love your Prato socks! Can’t wait for the pattern! 🤩
Yay! Thank you!
When you can’t sleep (awake since 4:00 am) it’s thrilling to see one of your favorite podcasts posted a new episode!!!!!
Aww that makes me happy to hear! 🤗And I hope you will sleep better tonight ;)
Hi! You had asked about sock sizes. I must knit socks with a 56st count or they are too big. Now this is in fingering weight. If it’s colorwork I can go up a stitch count size. I can pass on some info but it won’t be helpful at the moment, but later it will. A friend is a master knitter and the editor for TKGA Magazine and also teaches the tech editor program. She shared with me today that the Yarn Counsel has reached out to TKGA and a couple of other companies asking for their in-put. The Yarn Counsel is working on updating their whole website and that includes sizes for everything and everyone on their website. This is in the beginning stages so it will be at least a year or more until it’s completed. I’m sure you can check their website in spring or summer to see if there is progress in the changes.
Hello! Good to know for the socks, I will make the effort to go down to 56 sts for the next designs when possible :) And that is great news for the update of the sizing chart! Thanks for the info!!
I typically use a 56 cast on for socks so I would be interested in smaller sizes but a 60 stitch like the pointelle works too
That’s great to know! Thanks for sharing, I will try my best to accommodate for that in the next sock patterns 😊
@@inherskein Thank you!
Also, I do love the design of that sweater. Keep going :)
Thank you so much for the encouragement!! 🤗
Hello...in the US when the term "angora" is used in a fiber description it means angora rabbit. If we want to say it's from angora goat once it's spun it's called, mohair. Mohair (unless if it's baby mohair which is "kid" mohair) is a bit more scratchy and gives a nice halo to your project, but angora is super soft and you get a fluffy halo but it's extremely soft. So, when looking at your project, especially when you said it was soft, I would say the yarn is wool & angora rabbit. How delightful...enjoy!
That’s so interesting and it makes a lot of sense! Thanks for explaining this!! 🥰
Love watching you design. I have a way to test fabric to see if it's 100% wool. Cut a little 1 to 2 inch square, place it in a container and cover it with bleach. Let stand over night. If the fabric is completely gone it's 100% wool. If threads remain that would be the synthetic fibers.
Thank you! I will definitely try that! I’ve heard of burn tests, but never about the bleach method, it sounds a bit more convenient! 😀
Merci de partager. J’ai particulièrement aimé que tu parles des hauts et des bas que nous rencontrons toutes à travers nos créations. Lâche pas, tu fais du très beau travail !
Merci beaucoup!! 🥰
Your pointelle socks are beautiful 💖
Thank you 🥰
Dear Marie, this sweater design looks so lovely. I would love to see a straight version. You should definitivly continue working on it :)
Thank you so much for the encouragement!! 💕
I would love to test knit your new socks. They are very intriguing. I am not on Instagram. I would do the 66 stitch size
Thank you so much for your interest!! I will also try to announce the test call here on TH-cam this week, so stay tuned for that! :)
For sock yarn without nylon, Fleece and Harmony in PEI has Point Prim Sock, 80% Wool/20% Mohair. So far so good but haven’t had them for too long.
Ohh thanks for this recommendation!! I will definitely check that out ☺️
You can resaw your wedding dress to a summer dress/skirt. You looked fabulous in it.
Thank you!! 💕
