UW53 Toolcat with a Muskox snowblower - Navigating lots of obstacles in a large driveway
Doing residential snow it doesn't matter the driveway size, there will always be obstacles to avoid. It's one of the reasons I like the toolcat vs a skid steer with the Muskox: Better visibility. Especially when backing up into the street.
Toolcat + Muskox throwing lots of snow!
This video is a good example of how I will back drag areas with a smaller layer of snow, but switch to a normal style snowblower in deeper areas like the edges of driveways when the wind has created drifts.
Toolcat moving some thick dense snow with a Muskox
I use the muskox like a box blade a lot in situations like this where I want to wait until a later time to turn on the blower. That's a nice part about a hydraulic blow, you can engage and disengage without burning out a PTO clutch.
A plow truck would struggle with this one! Toolcat + Muskox
The four wheel steering of the toolcat really shines in these tight spaces
Muskox blower + toolcat clears 2 driveways in 4 minutes. Tight space!
One of the aspect of using a toolcat with a muskox is the great visibility. This makes getting into tight spaces a lot easier. I have used this Muskox blower on a skid steer and backing out of tight spaces is a lot more challenging.
Muskox snowblower eats large city plow berm then backdrags to clean up
The Muskox is very versatile. You can move large amounts of snow like a traditional blower, but you can clear clean up neatly behind cars or by garage doors. This is just an example of that using a toolcat.
One additional advantage of a Muskox blower
One advantage not often discussed about the muskox snowblower is how much volume inside it has. I use it like a box blade on fresh snow frequently.
Muskox 23-78 on a toolcat clears 2 driveways of heavy snow in 5 minutes
This is a pretty typical use case for my toolcat/muskox setup. 2-4" on the ground, large berms from the city plows, and blowing snow. I've cleared 75 driveways putting about 160 hours on my toolcat so far doing this. We've gotten close to 200" so far this year.
UW53 with Muskox blower clearing city plow berm and long driveway
While i've tackled 4 foot high berms with the Muskox, this is a more typical example of berms I clear. This was from probably ~3" of snow on the street.

      Toolcat is 3ish mph slower on the road. Clearing driveways it’s like 20% slower than an inverted blower. 4052 is the better choice for residential snow assuming you can get the scrape quality out of the inverted that your customers want

    I love your weight set up in the bucket. I just purchased front wheel weights from Texas and installed those. • @allupsnowblowing

      We run the weight kit 90% of the time. During big storms we’ll run a bucket up there to help clear around mailboxes. But the bucket is a lot more of a liability (i.e. easier to hit things) so we custom made the weight kit using the front weight kit from JD and a skid steer carrier plate.

      Hi Jeremy. I run it on a toolcat UW53. I do like the Muskox. I think it’s the best option for a toolcat or a skid steer. Would I buy it again? No, but that is because I do residential snow removal and have found that a John Deere 4066R + Inverted snowblower is faster. There are some driveways you can’t do with an inverted though. I turned those customers down this year. So if you can do what you need to do with an inverted I would go that route. If you have to be able to blow forward, the Muskox is a great option. If you have a toolcat/skid and don’t want a tractor, then the Muskox is a great option.

      Hey Dan. No issues. I have gone through a fair amount of normal wear parts, but I have cleared hundreds of driveways with it. As for changing, sometimes the dual auger chain tensioner gets loose but we check it before we go out each time. Have to tighten it a couple times a season. • @allupsnowblowing

      Depends on the complexity of driveways. Muskox can do any type of driveway. Inverted blower cant (e.g. a drive you have to blow forward with). Assuming you just have driveways that inverted works with, then yes inverted is faster (~50% in my experience) and the whole rig is less expensive. So short answer, if you have all driveways that work with an inverted then I would recommend an inverted. Im running 3 inverted and 1 toolcat this season.
