Is This the Ultimate Small Workshop Dust Collection System?
After adding a jointer and a thickness planer to my workshop, I quickly realized I was going to need a bigger more powerful two stage dust collection system to handle the larger chips and increased volume of chips from those tools. I needed an affordable solution and it had to be a small footprint as floor space is limited. My solution was the @rockler 1250 CFM wall mount dust collector paired with the @oneida-air Super Dust Deputy cyclone and I was absolutely blown away with how amazing and efficient this setup was. This video documents the installation of the unit, tests the decibels vs my shop vac setup, and how well the two stage dust collection works.

    This isn't a worthwhile TRICK...you may do this and get a perfectly straight splinter guard...but the first time you cut anything and have to extend part way off the track you can easily recut the guard off line which you were trying to prevent in the first place..best thing you can do is just make sure you have more track than you need for each cut to allow starting and ending the cut before and past the ends of the cut...

    • @dellsdiy
      @dellsdiy 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s correct but the goal is to never. It off the end of the track. This trick is to cut the guard perfectly so you can use the guard for alignment

      Making taller ones will be the same exact process but you would add another level of fence picket. Instead of three you would do 4 or 5. The plans will help with that as well since you may need to adjust the planter angle

    Dell's DIY, this is a great project, and one I'm going to build. My one question is why you didn't consider a cutout for the shop vac exhaust. I'm wondering if the shop vac wouldn't tend to overheat if it's on for any extended amount of time without that cutout. Your thoughts?

    • @dellsdiy
      @dellsdiy หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and for your comment Don! I had thought about venting the exhaust out the back but decided against it only because I added an exhaust “muffler” which sticks out about 8-9” from the shop vac and I didn’t want it sticking out behind the cabinet because the cart wouldn’t sit close to the wall behind it. If I turn the shop vac on a diagonal the muffler sits inside the cabinet with no issues of overheating since so much air moves through the vacuum it really doesn’t get anything more than barely warm and that’s even when using for 10-15 minutes straight while sanding. You can definitely vent it out the back if you’re more comfortable with that

    Hi, how big is your workshop

    • @dellsdiy
      @dellsdiy หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. It’s pretty small. Even though it’s in a three car garage, two of the stalls have cars in them, the last stall has riding lawnmower, snowblower etc leaving me with about 10’x12’ dedicated shop and then I move a bunch of tools (tablesaw, workbench, etc) into the middle car stall when building.

      I wouldn’t say it’s a habit. When filming I have to make sure to show what I’m doing and sometimes that means being in an awkward position to get the shot in front of the camera. I wouldn’t recommend ever shooting a nail gun towards your body.

    I'd be curious to know how much CFM you have lost by the immediate turn from the motor to the separator. Most set-ups call for a straight connection to get the most suction possible. That's why many rotate the motor directly in-line with a separator and then run an elbow or flex to the filter.

    • @dellsdiy
      @dellsdiy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t have a cfm meter unfortunately so I can’t do that test but from my experience with the unit so far I can’t imagine im losing much. Most of the units that you’re seeing turned on their side are the harbor freight motors which are not very efficient and fairly weak in comparison. I honestly wish I could do the cfm test just to see for sure and if needed an easy fix is to add two 6 inch 45’s (90 would be too sharp of a turn) into a 6” pipe to the cyclone. I really don’t think it would make much of a difference but I could be wrong.
