Hello friends, this week I am here with a huge project. A workpiece with a diameter of 650 and a length of 3.5 meters with a flange of 1350 diameter welded on the end. I have never encountered copper pipes of this size before in my professional life. It was a really great experience for me, a job that requires a lot of patience and attention.
On one side of the copper pipe there is a 1350 diameter flange and on the other side there is a 680 diameter yellow welded flange. In this video I tried to show the workmanship I did on the flange part.
Since the flange was very big, it bent a lot during welding, which was a bit difficult but it saved the size. I made a radius of 30 on the inside of the pipe and opened a channel on the face of the flange. I made a diameter on the back and corrected it. I did all this work with patience and care because it is very soft and it sticks all the time and I cannot load the pass, but I did my best with a good workmanship and delivered the workpiece.
I will share the rest of the video next week on the same day. This video is the first part.

It is a heavy piece but not heavy for this machine and if you work with bearings, it will be a lot of work, so there is no need for that.

What grade of copper? It must be Type K copper which is 99.9 % pure copper.
I don't know the types, I am completely normal copper
@@MyLatheWorld I machine lots of copper of all grades Type K is used in large copper pipe, very thick walled and very gummy.

Une très grosse bûche avec beaucoup de décrotage a mon goût, une façon de travailler en plateau centrage 4 mors que je connais bien car je suis moi-même dans le métier et réalise des usinages '' similaires '' mais plutôt sur tour vertical car moins de contraintes de centrage pièce. Pourquoi ne pas avoir commencé par l usinage du grand diamètre des le début et se serré dessus pour réaliser le cône.(contraintes de déformation pièce ?)
The thing we lathe operators enjoy the most is emptying the lathe. You are right, my colleague. I have never worked on a vertical lathe, but from some perspectives, I think it is faster and safer.

I was a machinist for about 24 years,a old engineer taught me how to work everything from lathes to drills to miller's,all old school no cnc,he retired and I lost my job but in some respects I don't miss it,dangerous work in a way those machines are very unforgiving to mistakes,but yeah 20 plus years of machining,not many of us left these days.
I have been doing this job for almost 20 years and I love it very much but people are putting me off from the profession. I do my best to keep people going. I am currently working in Germany. You can see my new workplace in my new videos. Thank you.
@@MyLatheWorld yeah it's very cool what you do mate,I didn't make anything as big as what you do,the chucks on our lathes were only like 12 inches in diameter and we also had capstan lathes for much much smaller components,I enjoyed milling more but that was tricky to learn.

Good old school manual skills there which is rare these days
