Garden Walk Through! (Spring 2024)
มุมมอง 2265 หลายเดือนก่อน
I love spring, it is one of my favorite times of year. There is still much to do before summer comes. Harvesting, planting more and still a lot of clean up and mulching left. But this is how my garden looks after two weeks of rain and me being on vacation. My beautiful mess that is my place of peace
Strawberries: Trimming Runners & Transplanting Baby Plants
มุมมอง 3058 หลายเดือนก่อน
There is nothing better than a fresh strawberry picked straight from the garden and enjoyed immediately! In the first couple years of a strawberry plants life, trimming runners are important if you want good fruit production. I will keep a few runners and allow them to produce offspring. Some of the offspring I leave while others I pot up and give away to friends or plant in hanging baskets.

Diy Easy Cheap Treillis For Vertical Growing(Tomatoes, Squash etc...)
มุมมอง 1.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I have been growing on cattle panel (or hog panel) for years. It is one of my favorite ways to trellis because it's cheap and no maintenance for years and years and years! This stuff seems to last forever! I have grown all kinds of veggies and gourds on this panel but this year decided to grow my larger indeterminate tomatoes on it and I am so glad I did! Tips For Winter Gardening
มุมมอง 3352 ปีที่แล้ว
I just started winter gardening in 2020 and fell in love with it! Every year will be different of course depending on how cold it gets. In my climate we only get temps down to single digits every now and then. If your somewhere that stays in the single digits for extended periods of time you may have a difficult time keeping things alive. But if you are in a zone similar to mine which is zone 6...

Skip Sugar! Use/Grow Stevia Instead
มุมมอง 4302 ปีที่แล้ว
Stevia is a zero calorie sweetener that can be grown in your own backyard or on your patio like I'm doing. Consuming tons of sugar is terrible for your body and yet it's in almost all packaged or canned foods we buy from the store. Growing your own stevia allows you to sweeten things without the risk that is associated with sugar!

Easy DIY Trellis For Tomatoes

This year I decided to utilize my space around my pergola built last summer to grow some tomatoes vertically. I thought it to be a perfect structure to grow on and save space in my backyard. I recently worked on a large farm where we used the lower and lean method of growing tomatoes. This method evolves growing up a string allowing them to grow as tall as they want rather than just confining t...

DIY Birdhouse: Opening My First Birdhouse Gourd
มุมมอง 6753 ปีที่แล้ว
I grew birdhouse gourds for the first time last year and it was so much fun watching them grow! Not only did they cover my hooped cattle panel completely but their canopy provided protection from the rain. I love being outside while it's raining and the long vines with huge leaves were so cool to sit under. I planted probably about 5 plants and have soooo many gourds! I can't wait to start pain...

    Ummm...no one thought to suggest that if you cut off the flowering portion at the a leaf node below the flowers the plant will continue to produce leaves? Anyone? Basil basics?

    I'm impatient so I did not spend the time to watch this video but I have been using this method for years (maybe it is the same one here!!) Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Wash and dry basil. Place on cookie sheet. Close oven door and turn the oven off. Forget about it for however long - half hour? An hour? Pull it out and put it in a jar. Works for me!!

    • @dr.greenthumb6535
      @dr.greenthumb6535 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DaveE99 all depends on your dehydrator.. I have a 4 tray version. I usually let them go 6-8 hrs.. on the low setting is best as u lose less terpenes and volatile goodies... u can open that basil shaker many months later and Pow! Still fragrant unlike any store bought.. happy preserving.

    How do you capture basil seeds?

    • @yogigardens
      @yogigardens ปีที่แล้ว

      They form in the flowers that grow from the plant. Just wait until the flowers are spent. Sometimes it will reseed itself if you dont mind it coming up in the same area

    I would agree with most comments here that hanging upside down and drying it is probably most effective and flavor saving way to do it. I do believe that cooking it in the oven will take away from its flavor.
