Dear Sir, Last year, ISI introduced a new four-year Bachelor (Hons.) program in Statistical Data Science. The first batch of students for this program is expected to be admitted in the year 2024. I am pleased to inform you that I have received a provisional seat offer in this program. However, I have some concerns about the availability of placements and internships for students in this new program. Since this is the first bachelor's program of its kind at the institute and would make undergraduates eligible for jobs, unlike the B.Stat and B.Math programs, I am unsure about the opportunities for placements and internships. I am particularly concerned about whether there will be any in-campus placement and internship offers for students of this program and whether companies will prefer giving good placement and internship offers to the students. The reason for my concern is the following. The institute also introduced the BS in Statistics and Data Science in the academic year 2021-22. The student at IIT-K told me that although it has been more than 2 years since the course was introduced in the institute, the companies keep it at a lower preference as compared to the older circuital and similar branches when talking about internships and placement offers. The reason for this concern of mine is that, I have a contact in the IIT-K. The institute also introduced the BS in Statistics and Data Science in the academic year 2021-22.
