In last '90s they were selling Suzuki rebranded 4 stroke engine because no one want 2T carburated engine due to noise, fuel consumption and polluttant emission. OMC died because they did not understand quickly that outboard world was changing and when they reply to this, the produce the ficht ram engine, disaster, and later Etec's family, a good engine but not enough reliable. G2 family was also better from performance, but they did not solved the other problem. Ps I have a 2007 40hp Etec and runs great.
@@luigigargiulo5368 OMC sold the Suzuki four strokes to help comply with EPA regulations. I'm old school and much prefer the older simpler more powerful two strokes.

dump question, does running full throtle for a long period for this motor will damage it? Also I manage to run it pass the start position but anything lower it stalls. I check both spark plug and they have fire on both.
As long as you have a proper fuel/oil mix and it is pumping water properly it shouldn't matter running for long runs. Try adjusting your low speed idle setting . Turn all the way in until it stops and back off 3/4 turn. Keep adjusting accordingly until it will idle down to a slow speed. May be a fuel issue. Make sure carb is clean. Hope this helps.
I just bought the same motor for my 11.5ft duckboat, boat weight is only 165lb dry. Should move it nicely on a calm lake.

Hi please help. I have the same exact motor. It wouldn't start, so I noticed one of the sparks was bad. Changed the sparks. Trying to test with spark tester while pulling the cord to start it and spark tester does not light up. Any idea what the problem could be?
It most likely is bad coils. But you don’t need a spark tester, you can use the spark plug to see if there’s any spark. Just make sure the plug is touching a non-painted metal part of the outboard when you pull the starter rope. Take both plugs out - it makes it easier to pull on the rope and especially if you’re working by yourself.

A friend of mine gave me the one I own. It was his grandfather's; I've never had the chance to use it. I just picked up a 1950s Minn-Kota trolling motor yesterday and just posted a video of it on my channel. Might have to make a video on my Shakespeare motor, now!

StanMac55 how old are these. I just picked one up today. The top green plastic is cracked I'm going to epoxy it back together then paint it black.

Fixed the handle. Yes, I think it was repainted some time ago. I have owned this motor for a long time. I have since then sold this motor. It ran great when I had it. Thanks.

Would you know the correct part number for the impeller for the 54? Is it the same as the 55? (18-3001) some say no some say yes. I have the exact motor and also live in NW Alabama
18-3001 is the correct part number. This is a Sierra part number. The OMC factory part number is 277181. I'm in Muscle Shoals. What city are you in?

Boy does that take me back! I got one of those for my buirthday when I was 6 (1952). It was a great little motor-- wish I still had it!
Nice and quiet! Is it cooling OK, I see a lot of steam once you slowed it down again, perhaps it was just a damp day.
