Ok, back from my European vacation! I'm working on new stuff, some of which is almost finished before I left on vacation, so looking good. This animation (Yep, hard to believe its an animation isn't it?) is an example of how far we have come so far in animation tech. I will be utilizing some new stuff as well as the usual deforum weirdness, so stay tuned

I did an animation on twitter before I went on vacation of a zombie invasion on the Tokyo subway which went down really well and has kinda ballooned in popularity whilst I have been on holiday. The small number of views and the stunning character of these AI videos, not just yours but an exponentially growing number of artists work suggests one thing to me and one thing only. Content does not and never has sold a persons art work or for that matter a persons scientific work ether. The reason for this is most audience members need to know what social faction they are signing up with before they allow themselves to respond to new content, they need to know what the consensus is and if there is no consensus they don't know how to react. They only get excited if their are teams. pundits and cheer leaders telling them how they should react. If we flash back to the 1960's the musicians who are now worshiped as if they were saints were known by only a small population of independent minded people, you could walk into some venue and see these icons without any fan fair what so ever, no one was told what to think, there was no press, no marketing. Most of the audience were the younger remnants of the "Beatniks", they were the new beatniks who took the hallucinogens that had emerged in rebellious academic circles much earlier. To disengage from the "beatnik" moniker which had already been trivialized by the press they called themselves "Freaks" who liked to "freak out" on hallucinogens.. The press began to notice the music and the light shows of the Freaks but it needed an insulting name by which to diminish them for the sake of sensationalism so they came up with the word "hippies" to mean "they who think themselves hip" which means they who have hand on hip, a stance of superiority. The whole idea of the freaks was not to fit in or be cool, but to be independent of group identity so renaming them "hippies" was the prefect subterfuge, something the press is expert at. the books "Alice In Wonderland" and "Through The Looking Glass" were chock full of characters who do not fit in (especially not Alice) and the Author of the books had not fit in with the British aristocracy ether, so they books became a source of inspiration to the "Freaks" This is why Jimi Hendrix said he let his "freak flag fly high" but that he didn't care if the "hippies cut all their hair" This is why Jefferson Airplane sang about Alice and the men on the chess board getting up and telling you where to go, Freaks were not going to be the pawns of academia and the press. In these days if you knew what you were doing you moved on to where you didn't, without adventure there is no creativity. There was no status in any of it, so artists were totally free to be themselves and did some of the best work the world has ever seen, which the world was happy to ignore. I personally knew many people who told me that they walked out of a Jimi Hendrix show (Frank Marino of all people was one of them),feeling that it was all just a bunch of base noise with no legitimate content. Many asserted the the light shows were a DISTRACTION, they were annoyed by them instead of delighted. I think this is 1966 for AI art and music also, what you are doing is the first glimmering of something that is going to be so major almost no one currently "gets it", only this time the revolution is going to be even more radical than the psychedelic freak revolution of 1966. I would not be surprised if many artists become famous who are currently ignored and as I suspect deliberatly marginalized by the you tube algorithms (none of us are privey to what these algorithms are doing, but they are probably steering the public mind towards content that resembles the more corporate offerings) Things may change soon and the number of views start to expand exponentially, perhaps this time the powers that be will not be able to so easily co-opt and subvert the new art forms as in 1966. I was doing psychedelic light shows starting in 1967. I know nothing about how these videos are achieved but have a thought, would it be possible to stream live video and have the AI promoted to modify it? Analog light shows could then become especially fantastical AI light shows, Here is an example of one of my light shows done in real time with slide projectors and multiple hand held transparent 3D color base reliefs, no editing, no digital technology of any kind except the camera it was (poorly) recorded with. th-cam.com/video/sXaiDo-jXG8/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/sXaiDo-jXG8/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/4CE4uwxAyOA/w-d-xo.html

Only found out a couple of hours ago that I was awarded a creative partnership so lets see how it goes. Michael is cool over there he's running a great project. I tried a few lip sync packages over the last year or so but Hedra are the best. It adds some complications into you tube as I need to add subtitles to get a wider audience but its worth the effort. I can't wait for Hedra to get a 16:9 widescreen option (which hasn't been released yet) then I can get away from green screening characters onto widescreen backgrounds. A tip if you are using Hedra for green screening is don't use green, it doesn't work. Create your character and cut the character out then place it onto a pure pink background (no idea why pink works so well but it always works) then you can upload your character to Hedra with a pink background and do the lip sync. Then once done put your talking character onto any background image you choose, then you can use a movie editor like KDenlive or Capcut to chromakey out the pink background making it invisible so you can see whatever background you have chosen. With the 16:9 option this won't be necessary as you can use a character on an existing image you choose and upload that to Hedra, it will look far more natural once done.

Cool. Good to see more character animation. Takes time to develop it. Telling a little story too. Even a tiny story is good to see. Important. 👍👏

Glenn, I have busted my brain to the limit with some of the techniques employed in this. Not my area at all, way out of my comfort zone but I have learned so much in this my head hurts. Already I have started thinking how I can twist some of the skills here to my own personal weird imagination. I feel like a mad scientist who just walked into a brand new lab with lots of new equipment and ideas to utilize

Thanks a million, francolli! We really appreciate all of your ingenuity and passion for AI work. You have indeed learned a lot about animation! The future of watching your channel should be a lot of fun! I hope we can collaborate more in the upcoming months! All of us from The Still And Silence thank you! The song is also on Spotify and other digital outlets. Just look for The Still And Silence. Thank you!!!

In my occupation being creepy is the thing that keeps me employed. I seem to have a gift for getting into the minds of the 1% out there who are even more disturbing than Deforum animations

@@francolli You've hinted at that before. And you may be in good company: I read “On Writing” by Stephen King a while back, the only book about writing that's actually useful for writers. In it, King describes in detail how his entire personal life was a chain of horrible events, implying (without actually saying it) that this influenced what he became professionally. So it looks like you, too, are projecting your inner horror onto your art. And art it is.

@@georgehimself6612 Its a bit of a release really. I have authored books in the past about similar things as a backlash against the disturbing nature of my work, but always under pseudonyms as I need to keep a low profile with that for many reasons, I guess every experience in life is a building block toward what you become. I've always been the kind of person that figured out really early that there are no negatives in life, only tough experiences that make you a better person. The more trauma I face in life the more creative I become even if in that moment I sometimes lean in strange creative directions

I find it difficult to stop an animation once I start one. This clocks in at 7 minutes, way past most people's attention span (aside from people who come to this channel) The result is that I always end up with a lot of material that I don't know what to do with. Maybe I should add an out takes section to this channel to get those online

The tune has been rattling around in my head for a while now. I wanted to get an ethereal guitar sound like Jeff Beck from the Roger Waters album 'Amused to death' and I also wanted a voice like Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode. Both boxes checked I think...As for the animation I felt really constricted with work stuff lately and it keeping me from doing anything creative. So went a bit overboard with the style but the interesting thing from an animation standpoint is the transitions between Deforum sections which are really strange and captivating but are my new go to technique provided by Chinese company 'Kling' and U.S company 'Luma labs' Both are a cool way to transition between Deforum sections and so strange it distracts the eye for a couple of seconds before you get hit with the Deforum stuff again. Its the first time I have tried this but really pleased with the results

@@francolli Thanks for sharing your workflow, and also the prosess of involving music to your videos. I have heard about both Kling AI and LumaLabs, and they seem to be pretty up to par 🙂 For the most part I only like to watch and get blown into the sofa when stuff is changing and warping and doing it`s thing, but maybe I some day will dig a little deep? You never know, mate. AND YOU ARE GOOD!
