Relatable opinions from a full-time photographer and his moustache.
Colour Grading is now on EASY MODE
Colour grading was always a mystery to me, when it really didn’t have to be. With this subjective world of photography, it can feel like anything goes.
In this video I share some real-world examples of client images and touch on the grading decisions I made. We edit 3 different challenging situations that come up in everyday shooting, with real problems and real solutions, and we even check in with Capture One-specific tools to see what’s worth the splurge, and what is all hype.

You're not alone. It takes time. 5 years ago, I moved to a new market where nobody knew my name, nobody cared what I could do, and seemingly nobody was allowed to be in the same room together (cough cough). The business was struggling, but the passion was thriving. I kept obsessing to a point of delusion, not really knowing if what I was doing was even working, but now I finally understand what...

Merry Christmas to you and yours! Get cozy, grab some eggnog, and let’s have a little laugh as I rank EVERY Photography niche, based off how lonely the photographer is who shoots it. This is all just fun and games, feel free to chime in and add on - is there a niche I forgot to mention? I had to source quite a bit of b-roll for this one, so make sure you check out the other creators I mention! ...

What's the point of your photos? From the homework Julia Fullerton-Batten does for her images, and the active volcanos that Joey Lawrence climbs for his shoots, to yanking Winston Churchill’s cigar out of his mouth; in this video I talk in depth on the motivating principle you should bring to your next photoshoot, whether it is for commercial purposes or simply for fun. The best photographers were using “bad” cameras

Legends like Ami Vitale, Bruce Gilden, and Ryan McGinley would all be using arguably ''bad'' cameras according to pixel peepers on internet forums. In this video, I elaborate on the topic of gear doesn't matter, and whether or not spending more money will give you better ideas and make you a better photographer (hint hint, it doesn't!) Let me know your thoughts on this one! Thanks for watching!...

Happy and fruitful new year to you as well 🥳
Nice tips 🤝🏻
Thanks Christian! Best of luck
You have done really well and it's through hard work and persistence. I'm probably different in that. I don't want to be a full-time photographer. I would lose the passion. I'm more of an artist than I am a photographer. I look at the camera as a set of paintbrushes, not necessarily technical and electronic devices like mini photographers do and I know I would lose my passion for it if I was full-time, but I quite enjoy my journey and I think everyone's journey is different. I don't think many people actually want to be full-time photographers any more. I talk to a lot of people in my area and also in the state of Western Australia which is a big state by the way it's almost half the size of America to give you some perspective on how big it is. Most of them don't want to be full-time photographers for the same reason I'm talking about they lose their passion for creating. I think it takes a special kind of person to enjoy their art still and do it full-time so all credit to you.
I know what you mean. I am actually working on myself to get better and get more jobs. Its really a slow process but I think its worth it
at times it feels like "slow" is an understatement 😂
Looks like you had lots of fun… two swigs of beer and you are definitely cutting loose..!! All the best for 2025!!

Happy new year Thomas! 🎉
What a beautiful video to watch on the last day of the year ❤
glad you liked it! Happy new year 🎉
Great rant. The gear has gotten so good, and in fact has always been good it needs to about the output more than the input nowadays. The gear that matters to me is about the right tool, the inspiring tool, and the enjoyment that it will bring and shine through to the work.
So happy to have found your channel! This video had so many wonderful points, thank you for sharing this! This advice came across my feed when I needed it the most, im in the middle of big life transition to a new city and this is my moment!
This is your moment! Embrace it! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the motivation! What did you go to school for?

Hey I am also in Victoria, I have been watching as much of your content as possible and trying to be as much of a sponge as I can to learn as much as is physically capable. I'm stuck where I am, and I'm looking for my way out to live the dream in photography and continue to build my skills all while still having to work my previous job to provide for my family. You are a true inspiration, and I'm so glad there is someone here where I live who I can learn from but also gives great advise to glean off of! First shoot of 2025 i would love to do an engagement shoot, or an expecting shoot.
We're in such a wonderful part of the world for engagement shoots. Best of luck Barron!
Super personable, relatable, and approachable man! Really like it. I currently live in Victoria and it’s an awesome community to surround yourself with if you’re getting feet on the ground. I’ll soon find myself in the same situation as I’m moving to Squamish to do more film/photo stuff there and Vancouver Cheers 🍻 Happy New Year
The island sure is picture-esque, but if leaving for Squamish is not a bad trade-off after all! Enjoy the transition Isaac, best of luck!
Realy like your content. It,s kinda similiar of the youtube channel tin house studio. But a tad bit different
Thanks Jorn! Scott is great at what he does.
I started shooting on a D3200. I upgraded to an A7II, but refuse to upgrade because my best pictures are still on that D3200 because I mastered that camera and had better stories to tell. My a7ii does take sharper images, but they're not better, just cleaner.
First shoot of 2025 is comming in a week. Something that i love so mutch that i do it even if it is on the week end of my hollyday break!
That’s a good sign! Best of luck Daniel ✌️
I actually have my first shoot of 2025 scheduled already 😀 It’s my first beauty test shoot! I’m building a portfolio for beauty and skincare work, so it’s quite relevant. It will be shoot 2/4 this week which is madness haha. And I also just signed for studio space for January for client work. So - 🤞 but I’m rather pumped about it all!
That’s a huge milestone!! Congratulations 🎉
@@sergiopstudio Thank you!!!
It's so cool seeing someone who lives in my home town giving out amazing advice all the fucking time. I really appreciate your videos. Once this photography shit works out I'm gonna come back and thank you
Ayy thanks! Keep that passion alive, it will pay dividends.

Thanks to share it.
I think this might hold a record for the least amount of cuts in one of my videos.
Thanks for this video mate! This was the "kick in the butt" I needed at the end of the year to make some changes for next year! 😄
Love to hear it Bruno!
"Bad" camera is a loose term. "Basic" camera would be better but unpopular term. Basic is as basic as it gets the job done. But "Bad"? How much degree of "Badness" it could be? For me, a Bad camera is a camera with technical problems. i.e. Camera with faulty memory slot, camera which shuts off in the middle of a job,, camera which fails to detect wireless flash.
Nice vid. Most of the time a poor image could have been saved with more experience or skill not better gear. ... at least, thats my experience. Sometimes however, better gear can compensate for ones lack of skill (if thats a good thing ?) and sometimes specific gear is needed for specific scenartios.😊
Well said 👏

While I agree, that what you use doesn't matter, but after being in a gallery with other mix media artists I truly wish there wasn't a stigma about the camera brand or model we shoot with. I love that other artists can say blah type of paint, blah type of clay. When you hang up a photo in a gallery, you can talk about type of photography and type of paper... but man I think its cool that this person got this shot with a d200 with a fisheye or whatever lol. If we didn't think this is better than that, it could open us up to accepting the challenges of our art when using certain gear. I think gear listing and understanding what tools they used to make it is sooooo cool lol. but instead we hate on gear and act like its bad 2 years later.
That’s a fun take. Thanks for chiming in!
This ended up being way more fun to make than I anticipated. Thanks for the feedback! Now...who should I rank next? 🤔
Oh, man this is fresh! I love this type of humor. The visual vibe too.

you're among many now! Welcome Steve ✌️
As a birding photographer - definitely the loneliest. I do it as an escape and a way of dealing with my depression. It’s nice to be out in nature and mindful and stuff. It’s also a huge time sink.

Here's me being a Photojournalist, weirdly happy to be in the S Tier You really need a certain heart and madness to be one; you are so interested in the world and how people respond to the world - it heightens your perspective on people simply by witnessing the best and the worst in people on a daily basis. It's wonderful life but also a stressful life - and I'm only scratching the surface of it.
Beautifully put, Metty! Thank you for sharing.
currently using a canon eos 350D. just started photography and its 8 megapixels hasn't disappointed me yet.
Amazing! Puts a smile to my face.
thank you for not shilling like everyone else on camera TH-cam
You were drunk before you ever drank that beer 😁 I subbed to you at 2k subs or something. First time comment. I always try to give you a thumbs up for the TH-cam algorithm.
Thanks for sticking around! And being a big part of this journey. 🍻 Clearly my frat days are a few lifetimes behind me.
