Bulletproof Your Biturbo (M278, M157 common problems & fixes)
READ DESCRIPTION! IMPORTANT INFO!
Oil pump solenoid thread. Ridiculously long, don't read all of it, basic gist of it is that the oil pump goes into a low pressure mode at low engine load, which affects the piston squirters most. May or may not be the direct cause of the bore score issue. Some think it's bad because it weakens the oil, but who cares you do it every 3k miles anyways. Right?

When doing the turbo coolant lines replace everything listed below, especially the oil filter housing thermostat and the gaskets. Also would recommend doing the thermostat because you will most likely break it if you remove it.

Mercedes timing cover / cam magnet reseal - oil leak fix for M276, M278, M157 and more.

A quick and easy fix for a front timing cover / cam magnet leak for a Mercedes M276 motor. All M276’s, M278's and M157's should be the same or very similar, but this was done on my 2015 C400. It has been leaking for a while and the leak was very small but I just decided to fix it because it was cheap and I like a clean motor. มุมมอง 24K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Some crappy videos of my C250 when I put the downpipe on. Only had it on for a month or 2 so that’s why there’s so few videos. I kind of cheated exhaust wise because I put a cutout right behind the downpipe, so I didn’t have to cut off any resonators or mufflers to make it a “straight pipe”. Plus a bonus video at the end where I ran the car without any exhaust at all.

I managed to fix it by removing a part from the heater control valve that stops coolant from entering the engine to help it warm up quicker. @ i hope you’re right. From the looks of it, seems like its a pain
@ yes, that engine you described would be optimal. It would also cost an insane amount. Cost cutting and chasing low emissions have combined to create these overcomplicated cars. They use turbos because they are cheap and easy to claim better MPG while still having the same power as an NA car without having to spend thousands on a very well optimized NA engine with insanely tight tolerances that probably won’t be more reliable anyways.

Nice video, i appreciate the info. I bought a 13 S550 two weeks ago. Drove for a week and coolant lines on the back side of the engine broke. I'm just replacing everything lol. I need to address the camshaft sensors when i get the car back.
Mercedes made those pigtails years ago to try and keep that oil from getting into the main harness and getting into the ME. Disconnecting that oil pressure solenoid is not a great idea continuous high-pressure wears that pump out. If you drive that car long enough you will discover that. Most likely you’re not trying to get lots of miles out. Sorry, I gave up after one minute. You don’t know what you’re doing.

Hey friend. I have a 13 ml63 and did the waterpump but couldn’t find any torque info. I saw a vid for m278 and it shows 14nm on all shorter t40 bolts and four of longer t45 bolts on outside of pump to 20nm. Before seeing this vid I got confused and did all 20nm. Is this bad? Or can I loosen up the shorter t40 bolts down to 14 as stated. I’m worried since it’s a metal gasket that it’s been compromised as it’s been tightened 6nm more. Is the gasket ok still to reuse? It’s a new gasket. Please help!
You're fine, don't undo anything or you'll ruin it. They can take extra torque.

Are newer M157 after 2015 safe or do they still have these issues?
Read the description.
@@ginco_bnzthanks
The reason these engines blow up imo is due to detonation from high intake air temps. The intercooler gets heat soaked when it sits after driving. You get back in and have sky high intake temps 130 degrees or more until the car runs for several minutes. I used an autometer dash link to confirm this. Any way the need for a split system, large front mount heat exchanger and high volume pump are obvious. I'm also going to do a water meth kit when I get the Renntech tune. I'm doing the solenoid delete as well, thanks for the info.
Yes IAT's definitely play a part, that's why it's important to leave the car idling for 2-3 minutes after driving it hard before you shut it off. The intercooler pump always on mod makes a big difference also.
E63s have split cooling. Also a pump rewire will keep the pump cycling fluid throughout the system, unlike in oem settings, it awaits a certain temp before the ecu kicks it on. Also improper lubrication is the issue for cyclinder scuffing and such. Imagine having 700-800 trq and your car in low oil pressure mode to save gas, instead of lubricating and cooling
Anyone have a link for the front snout seal?

Great video my friend a lot of important information to take into consideration if thinking about getting a car with a m278. I actually have enough issues already with my m156 but my m113k keeps me sane 😂 Thank you for your video
M113k is a great engine, very easy to work on and the problems if any are always exactly where you expect them to be.
Awesome tutorial! This is so helpful. Do you recommend buying the Loctite 5970, or is the gasket sealer you listed fine? Also, is one or two enough?
Any oil proof gasket maker should work. People say Mercedes OEM is the best, but obviously not if it's failing at ~50-60k miles on these engines. Toyota apparently makes a very strong one as well.
🔥🔥🔥
I would recommend replacing that "random bolt" you used with an aluminum one. Steel and aluminum react, and it will seize up and be impossible to remove later.
I know. The random bolt was from a clamp on my CL55 which was going into the block, and the M113k is aluminum as well.
Awesome, thank you bro!
