    Gates of the Arctic was one of the highlites of my long life! I am now 75 yo and my backpacking trips are sadly over - the last was 45 miles solo on Isle Royale NP when I was still young at 65 - but with 2,300 miles of wilderness river trips and over 4,000 miles of "serious" backpacking my memories stay with me. Now, alas, I can only do 4 mile hikes in mountainous terrain or 8 mile "flatland" hikes with a daypack. At 71 I decided to give up flying my beloved little airplane and sold her after 36 years, but it was all for the best. Oh well, I DO know how fortunate I still am! 👍 PS - I also highly recommend the Noatak National Preserve and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

    I'm planning a trip up to this national park but I've called the airline about their camping fuel restrictions. What fuel did you guys bring for your trip? The most I got from the receptionist was that jet boil fuel was a no go. I'm assuming white fuel for an MSR burner is the solution but I don't want to show up for my plane ride and have my stove confiscated.

    • @JoeBarnett
      @JoeBarnett ปีที่แล้ว

    Never had backpacking experience, always loved the outdoors though. Actually moved to Alaska last year. Got a float plane to Walker lake, backpacked through some valley's there for a few days and rendezvoused from the same spot. Gates of the Arctic is great. Would do it with someone else as well next time though, I didn't go far out though because of fear honestly. Also, kind of expensive. I plan to do it again either this summer or next.

    RIP S2S. It'll be back someday, but very changed. You missed the better section of trail that bypasses the road with the farms. Also your initial Castle Rock section is not part of Skyline-to-the-Sea, it starts at Saratoga Pass, but a common variant for the overnight parking. And why do you and Instagram call Waterman Gap "Water Gap"? 😄

    umm it looks like you don't have the halyard running through the halyard restrainer. the halyard should run through the small block at the front of the mast (at the top) which prevents halyard wrap.
