After my previous channel of five years encountered technical difficulties, here is its new reincarnation. I will again try to share old clips of the Golden Age of Broadway in a bid to keep that true artistry alive and accessible.
Forgive the occasional poor video quality, the original material is often very old.

"Portobello Road" from BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS
We remember Richard M. Sherman, half of the Sherman Brothers, the duo who provided the soundtrack to the childhood of generations. Amongst their countless Disney scores, they also lent their talents to several endeavours on Broadway.
This selection of footage was shot during the filming of the "Portobello Road" number on Bedknobs and Broomsticks; first seen are brief shots of the film's star, Angela Lansbury, with choreographer Donald McKayle, followed by the Sherman Brothers rehearsing the number on a piano. David Tomlinson is then seen recording the song's reprise in the studio, accompanied by Irwin Kostal.

Love this musical, have seen it twice and can't imagine this remake with a female playing Bobby....
Thanks for this, this is fabulous. Always been my favourite show.
God dammit i am cutting onions T_T
Iconic: Jessica Fletcher meets Hercule Poirot !
amazing!!!! the best production of gypsy i have ever seen. and i've seen the tyne, patti, bernadette productions. THIS PRODUCTION WAS THE ULTIMATE PRODUCTION.
GOD what i'd give to see this
AMAZING!!!
You did a great job.. Obviously a labor of love. I can't understand why it didn't occur to anyone to preserve these shows somehow. . Were it not for that tourist who snuck his camera in, we wouldn't have any footage, albeit silent, of so many of these Broadway shows dating back to the 30s. Lost to the ages: Merman's Gypsy, Mary's South Pacific and yes even Lucy's Wildcat. The tourist footage is frustrating because it leaves you wanting more. Merman and Bob Hope doing "It's Delovely" for instance. We have some TV versions (Wonderful Town), bootleg audio recordings (Coco) , selected segments on the Tonys (mid-60s on) and the Ed Sullivan Show. And of course, the OBC albums brought to life more in the late 50s with the introduction of high fidelity. Has there been any sound improvement since then? I say no. Remixing to perfection takes away a lot of the theatrical spontaneity IMO. I love the fact we hear Channing come in early with "ER....." before catching herself ("Ermangarde, stop sniveling,,,,") In "Put On Sunday Clothes". . I was born way too late to witness the show business era I love.
Dame Lansbury was a wonderful performer!!
Sweeney Todd is one of the greatest musicals ever written!😍
보는데 왜 눈물이 나지😢😢
I miss Ethel Merman. You will never hear a voice again like hers.
So she would have been, what, 81 here? Wow!
Wow! Is there a full version of the show available somewhere?
Thank you for doing this amazing job of piecing this together. So historically powerful! Years ago I was friends with Warren Lyons and he had pieced together an audio version of the entire show. He has since passed and I have no idea where it went, but this is as close to it as he had and I just know he would love an approve this!!!
Angela Lansbury doing her usual excellent, competent job.Suitably flamboyant. Always reliable.💙😊 🇬🇧😊💙🌈📖🦉🇬🇧
Amazing! Thank you so much for this!
My mother's father & Zero's Father were Brothers....
The time when Disney was for the kids and was great. Now the company is only a shell of what it used to be.
The way she words the introductio. N is snide af!!
What a shame that Angela Lansbury was never in a situation to record this song professionally. I love the Maureen McGovern recording of the song which, thankfully, is available here on TH-cam. To me, this is an exciting song. (While we're talking about dropped opening numbers, how I wish we had an opportunity to hear the original song that Julie Andrews sang as her opener in VICTOR VICTORIA. I always feel as though IF I WERE A MAN was a bit too low key. But, anyhow, thanks for this wonderful shadow of what must have been a terrific performance of a terrific song.
Angela Lansbury was such a loss ❤ So gutted I never got to see the original.
This is not only one of the greatest moments in the theater of the twentieth century. It’s the birth of its Masterpiece.
Bravo Tyne, I saw her on Broadway as Mama Rose. She was FANTASTIC ❤
Amen! I saw Angela Lansbury (in London) and Patti LuPone (Broadway) as Mama Rose as well, and all three were excellent, but Tyne Daly was my favorite: down-to-earth and electrifying at one and the same time. And she was lovely in another Merman role in "Call Me Madam" at Encores. And she's really wonderful here, thanks for posting!
I saw her on the 4th of July in Spokane, WA. The city held their fireworks display until the show got out, so the audience got to see it over the park. Ms Channing was incandescent.
Peter O'Toole and Sophia Loren in the film version of the musical.
I saw it in '79 with these 2 legends,best B'way show I ever saw.
Note how she goes up in the lyrics, but manages to cover it pretty well. This early on in her run, few familiar with the song as much as now, a song for which she set the gold standard.
Talent before colour or gender
Mrs. Jessica Fletcher and P.I. Harry McGraw 😢❤
Why aren’t there anymore comments ?????angel is the most incredible actress of the 20 and 21st century!!!!!
Amazing that someone thought to record this which wasn't common at the time. 🤔 What a treat!😊
Most curious is the audio. Not the final performance which has been circulated. This seems to be another recording. Sounds like Desmond as Arnstein.
adored her in Something for Everyone, which is seldom mentioned much in general.
Genius!
Jennifer Lopez did a fantastic job remake of Kiss of the Spider-Woman Performance. The musical
Wow!
this is great 🎉
at 15:26 TELL HER TO GET HER ASS ON THAT MOON!!!!! is funny
❤Thrilling !!! To experience one more moment of Dame Angela🎉 My heart goes out to her fans who never saw her Live.. She gave us pure theatrical magic✨️
Rip Angela and jerry(mrs potts and lumiere
I saw her on Broadway in 1994 I witnessed pure genuis!!!
Not just hearing Angela’s glorious voice but also seeing her joyous facial expressions and energetic body language makes my heart leap and brings tears to my eyes. Perfectly sublime.
Oh yea! And when she sang Beauty and The Beast live then added “Into the cupboard with ya chip. It’s past your bedtime. Goodnight love” that did it for me fountains out of my eyes
Thank you for posting this!
She could have been having the worst day of her life and the second she stepped on stage she would fill the entire auditorium with light and joy. She played Dolly in a way no one else ever has come close to. From the asides to the audience, a low growl of a note or phrase to punch a joke or a knowing glance from those giants saucers of eyes she was a delightfully devious confection from start to finish. She WAS Dolly through and through. Long may Ms Channing’s light shine on us all from the other side of the footlights of heaven.
Please more Murder She Wrote interviews!
When will Tyne Daly bring "Dear World" to Broadway? Can she still sing at her age? I would love to see her do this role and this show!
Oh to be there
Maravilloso
SOOOOO !! MUCH !!! BETTER !!!,THAN ! THE MORE RECENT !!,TONED! DOWN !!!!!!!!!! VERSION !!! Jus!!!!'😜🤮t A PALE !!!!!!!!! VErSION !!!!!,in ! ALL THE SENSES!!!!!
