It is amazing to hear Angela Lansbury singing in such a consistently high register and so purely. What couldn't this incredible performer do? She must have been wonderful in this role.
Her sheer range never ceased to amaze me. In terms of acting and singing, she is a completely different character here than she was as Mame, Mrs. Lovett, and so many other roles. It's rare to see a performer who is such a chameleon and who always presented the character and show and never herself. Her death was no major surprise given her age, but it still hit me hard. Her artistry and sheer professionalism will continue to inspire performers for decades and decades to come.
I was lucky enough to see one of these performances. I was 17. I was in heaven! I had forgotten that she had such a vocal range. She didn't use her head voice very often. Beautiful
@@spn1007 She must have been magnificent! I had seen her in 'Mame', "Gypsy', and 'Sweeny Todd.' All in L.A. She was a real trouper. She always did the National Tour of her hits. That's a pro!

Wish it had been filmed, then released or streamed. Save these performances for the sake of history. RIP Dame Angela!
Thank you for sharing these marvelous photos. Ms. Lansbury was glorious!

Wow. Thank you. I saw this. She was as always incredible.
Incredible that she could sing it that high.
RIP 🙏🌟👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow...She had a great head voice too?! Class.
Wow.
I didn’t know she had the range, what a talent
There was no official recording of this "King."? I can't believe it. This is a hard role to sing. U have to be classically trained. God she was great!
She only played the role for 3 weeks while Brynner and Towers were on vacation. She was glorious
