Years ago I contacted the author Barry Lopez about becoming a natural history writer. He responded and said, "More important than anything is getting out into the woods -- up into the Wasatch, west into the desert, up to the refuge at Bear Lake -- and paying close attention there to everything you see. Knowledge gained in this first-hand, empirical way will take on special meaning for you, and give you a sense of where you are going in life."
And so it has. Hopefully this channel can do the same and inspire you to get out into the woods.
Footage from my TH-cam video 'HISTORIC HEAT WAVE - Pacific Northwest Bakes! (or Roasts!)' was included in 'The Here Now Project' documentary by Emmy-winners Jon Siskel and Greg Jacobs.

Historic SORRENTO HOTEL in Downtown Seattle - Is It HAUNTED?
Is it really haunted?
The hotel is said to be haunted by Alice B. Toklas, the partner of Gertrude Stein and inventor of the weed brownie. Some say she can be seen in the halls, especially around room 408, and that she can curse lights and drinks.
The Hotel Sorrento in Seattle, Washington has a rich history, including its opening in 1909, its Italian Renaissance style architecture, and its association with notable guests.
The hotel was designed by architect Harlan Thomas in an Italian Renaissance style inspired by The Vittoria in Sorrento, Italy. The hotel's Fireside Room features a fireplace with Rookwood tiles that were the first commercial installation by the Rookwood Pottery Company.
The hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

Picking Peaches Near My House
มุมมอง 462 หลายเดือนก่อน
As summer winds down, I created this video to remind me of those hot summer mornings picking peaches (and other fruit) in an orchard near my house. The winter snow may pile up outside this December, but I’ll remember once more the taste of a fresh picked peach! ABANDONED Train Tunnel 13 / Crazy Cliff Swallows
มุมมอง 2874 หลายเดือนก่อน
Re-explored tunnel 13 near the McNary Dam. The tunnel is rough hewn, but has a personality all its own. Fallen rocks from the ceiling look like head-busters, and they always make me nervous. I don’t know the railroad that ran thru Tunnel 13, it might have been the Walla Walla & Columbia River Railroad. Possibly built in the late 1800s. The area around the tunnel has spectacular views of the Col...

Wildflower Meadows & Gardens / Hiking / Blue Mountains Washington

The Blue Mountains are a range of fairly modest peaks located in the southeast corner of Washington State. Rivers running through the mountains carve deep canyons between narrow ridges and high plateaus. Steep slopes drop into deep canyons. Along the way to our destination - a high ridge with an elevation almost 6000 feet, we passed wildflower gardens and once on top of the high ridge the wildf...

Beverly Railroad Bridge (Abandoned Train Trestle) - On A Windy Day

We crossed the trestle 70 feet above the water in high winds and it was a wild experience! Beverly Railroad Bridge or Trestle has officially re-opened for pedestrian use. This restores a large gap in the Palouse to Cascades Trail, now complete at 285 miles long. Before, travelers would have to use the I-90 Bridge or use other transportation to cross the Columbia River. The bridge was completed ...

FOUND! Mountain Lady’s Slipper Orchids + Bickleton Balsamroot - Best of Show
มุมมอง 595 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the past two weeks I have been blessed by achieving two important goals I had for many years. First was to find the Calypso or Fairy Slipper orchid, and second to find the Mountain Lady’s Slipper orchid in the wild. Today, we found the Mountain Lady’s slipper. It was taller than I expected. And we found it along the trail, far faster than I would have guessed. Shy and pale, we found them und...

The first time I came across the Calypso Orchid or Fairy Slipper, I was 19 years old, looking thru a field guide of western North American wildflowers. It took 40 years, but today we found the Calypso Orchid, quite by accident. It was amazing to find it so unexpectedly. A...

Spooky carpeting for sure! Fun video. Thanks Mike
If hauntings were real, we'd hear about them all the time in places like Auschwitz, Dachau, Vaught and so many other places of mass murder around the world.. There has not been one single case of a haunting in any of those places, so until then, I'll remain extremely skeptical
How far up can you drive? Is this restricted for vehicles? Awesome find 😎👍
Strange things do happen in the most unexpected places!
Always a good day when you drop a video Mike!
Slow down. Let us read & examine this place.
This was at where I work!!!!! Lol Rockaway Beach, Oregon at Surfside Resort
Nice! Wish I worked there :) Thanks for your comment.
Can I buy some of those seeds from you please 🙏 🧡
The flowers are growing out in the sagebrush. Next summer after they bloom, I could collect some seed and mail them to you.
Have you ever noticed how the radiation symbol looks like the cross section of a implosion type nuclear bomb with the explosive lenses and plutonium pit?
What location? I hiked the crab creek parking lot area but coukd nit find the hex shaped columns,
It's cool to see how far technology has come when u look at all the gages and control terminals where operators sit .
Boys oh boys, don't they look good!! Hope they don't charge me for what I eat while I'm picking! LOL
Moving to the country I'm gonna eat a lot of peaches. I love peaches my friend. Peach tea Peach pie Peach cobbler Peach ice cream 2 thumbs up my friend. 👍
@12:25 there is some dumb woman walking around with a cloth mask on. In an antique nuclear power plant. 4-6% will not make it to the truth....
Always wondered what that building was every time I drove by. Just finally decided to investigate a little and found your vid. Also just happened to watch your vid on the weird circle house in Tri-Cities the same day, was linked off Reddit. I was like, wait this is that same guy haha
Do you happen to know badlands lake is on private property, it’s not very far from there when I looked at in on google maps. I’ve herd there are some fish there and would like to try fishing, I live on OIE hwy so it wouldn’t be far for me
Interesting fact.. hubby was stationed on subs and carrier’s in the Nuclear dept. for 20 yrs.. he said we were exposed to more radiation from a microwave than anything he was exposed to… e8 ETCS….HUGS
What state is this in?
My Grandpa was an electrician here. Seeing all that wiring I can see why I had such a fascination with complicated electronics when I was young. It was literally in my blood.
i wish a small house up there with a beautiful wife and tow cats
Cool footage.. I randomly just hiked up the face from the highway.. pretty cool… got a lot of thorns your way seems better😂
Nice video. Beautiful. I'm retiring and moving to the Oregon coast next spring, probably Bandon. I always enjoy these videos. Thanks!
Interesting safe at 7:35 the walls are thick like a source safe but its location next to a drafting table seems incongruous.
The whole area was a government secret. They didn't want anyone knowing things they shouldn't. There are signs at other area museums that are from the 40s and say don't talk about work basically to anyone. The homes and grocery stores literally everything in handford and richland were government owned. I've lived in the area for a while the history is interesting.
Hi Mike, thank you again for all the amazing tours of our beautiful state. I had an idea, if you want more subscribers hence more $ you could change your title to Mike shows you Washington nature or something so that people immediately see nature in title, it hooks them. Thanks again Christina
Thanks Christina, that's a great idea! I appreciate it.
Very cool! What kind of drone do you use?
For the Twin Rocks, I had a Mavic Air 2 -- which I lost flying over a river about 6 weeks ago. It was a sickening feeling watching it hit a limb and drop into the rapids like a brick -- there went $800. Since then I bought a DJI Mini 4K, Drone with 4K UHD Camera. It takes up less room in my pack, seems to be more wind resistant, and the video is still the same. Hope that helps.
@@MikeCarpenter-Adventures ah great thanks and again super cool!
I find some steps on trails hard to navigate and end up walking along next to them...just can't seem to get my legs to lift that high anymore. My goodness, that is sure the trail for wildflowers!! Quite amazing to see that many varieties in one area. Gorgeous views for sure! I'm thinking that is Mt. Rainier. One awesome hike!!
You and me both!
Oh my, looks like you are in the middle of a remake of the Hitchcock classic, The Birds!! Quite something!!
Spns rail road to Spokane to Idaho. Didn’t know where 13 was located but probably far from kahlotus.
Lots of amazing adventures to be found here!!
Nice!
Amazing!! You certainly found yourself in blooming heaven!! Those western peonies are pretty cool...I've not seen those before. Views for miles and miles...awesome!!
Great video. Are you allowed to drive all over the wind farm or just the visitor center?
You can around the wind farm, but there are some roads that are gated.
I live in Lincoln City and the King Tides are a regular occurence. Very cool.
Thanks for sharing. I always wanted to go there. What a project, world changing.
Always amazing to see this much sand in an area that one would not normally think of finding it! Cool!!
Used to drive out there and party in that tunnel when I was a kid.....Early 90s
Sounds cool. Thanks for sharing!
There you have it!! Amazing finds!!
Thanks!
Pretty neat! Found any historical places yet?
No mainly just hiking, although the area around Dayton, WA has some interesting buildings when we drove through.
Loaded with flowers! Great hike Thanks Mike
Thanks!
Great hike and video mike! Came across a ton of Fairy Slippers, Calypso Orchids at Union Creek Falls off Hwy 410 Memorial Day weekend
Sounds great!
JOY JOY JOY Thank you!🌟
Can't wait to check out this hike, hope to find the Simpsons Hedgehog cactus 🤞🏾
What a truly awesome sight!! We'll have the Lady Slippers, but not the Calypso! Wonderful!!
Yes! The Clustered Lady's Slipper is next on my list.
Outstanding scenery, your content is amazing man! 👏
Hey, I really appreciate it. Thanks!
Wow👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻new subscriber.LDR Naga vlog.
Thanks Mike! You showed me all the ones I missed on our short drive through Prosser and taught me about the area it's in!
Great to hear! I love Prosser. They added some new ponies after I made the video, and have meant to do a follow up video.
Maybe no orchids and a long hike, but it sure was an amazing area...just love the sound of that running and churning river!!
I love mountain rivers. I was reminded of the album cover of John Denver's Rocky Mountain High.
I like your drone camera work here.
Thanks!
Great hike, sorry to hear about your drone. Lost mine today earlier this spring. DJI just put up on Amazon a new mini-drone(basically a carbon copy of the mini 2) for $300
Thanks. Sorry to hear about your drone. I bought the DJI Mini 4K yesterday, I will test out the quality. At least if I lose that one, it's not so expensive.
What! Sucks on the drone! Nice walkabout Mike.
Thanks for the reply! Yeah it really sucks about my drone.
