What all can you do with a bow to repair ?
I love my Black Hunter Recurve. First bow I bought and the only bow I've won any kind of tournament with (a local beer league). I think I paid $115 for it, but it is the bow I recommend to folks just because of how good it is for the price. I've moved onto another bow and it has found it's home on my hallway wall. But any time I am taking a friend out to show them archery, I always bring it because it's a phenomenal beginner bow.
I have bought shafts of many brands, types, woods, tapers, etc. Most all of them have been great. I have also made, from scratch, trees in the back 40, many shafts of various woods. A lot of work and efforts. My best shafts, by my hand, were several from privet, barrel tapered, and heavy. BUT IN THE LONG RUN, I REALLY DO APPRECIATE COMPANIES THAT PRODUCE POC AND DOUGLAS FIR SHAFTS FOR THE BOYS!!! so far, SUREWOOD DOUGLAS FIR IS MY FAVORITE.

My sanlida royal x8 recurve is Super loud... what am i doing wrong?
I've been searching for a backup bow for my Osage Orange 60" 52lbs at 28 draw I built and currently hunt with. In March I'll be taking another bow making class and hope to knockout a Comanche short bow and a another long bow with a pacific yew bow stave I sourced from a good friend from Idaho.
What a great tribute to Fred he was a wonderful person and an icon in the traditional bowhunting community!🙏
I just got one of these in 40# its drawing 37# at 26" draw and quiet, accurate, and shoots really really well.
Nice work
never knew you could do this?
i think it takes a lot of nerve to buy this then take it to a custom boyer to rework it. To me its like bringing my own steak to a restaurant and asking them to cook it so i can save money.
This was hilarious..
I bought this but no matter how I try to adjust the limbs or string I cannot get the string to sit centrally
Love it!
without Fred Bear your job wouldn't exist !
Yo Shane, I've had great results stripping old bow finishes with a dull, flat knife edge held perpendicular to surface. You can clearly demark the old finish from the glass as it easily scrapes off...
you need to have more trust in your glues and modern epoxies, they're stronger than the wood , after 40 years of fine furiture restorations using screws or nails to repair grain fractures always proves to be just delaying a future failure. the guy who had the dowel suggestion was more on point , you should have put a rectangular plug in it the screw is going to cause a shear point because of it being metal it's going to fight the natural expansion and contraction of the wood... something to consider for a future endeavor.
Looks like a nice trip mate
In 2020, I went to an archery tournament in Germany. I didn't realize how huge of a sport archery is in Germany. This summer will be my fourth trip there. The German people are very nice and really make my wife and I feel welcome.
Glad to see the tape measure made it through TSA
Very interesting trip. Thanks for sharing the experience. Happy New Year!
Enlightening. Archers are the same world around. I am glad the tape measure made the trip. I did miss seeing the shop, the knives, and especially the dogs.
Im curious, if these are mass manufactured, i assume the limbs are probably the same top and bottom, especially since you said they frequently have neutral tiller. Is that likely? If it is, could you swap top and bottom to change the tiller if you wnd up with negative tiller?
Shane, thanks so much for this video. Seeing the sights that I probably will never see in person. It sure is a beautiful area over there. Are they able to hunt with bows there?
Now only a solid diamond wood riser or mycarta, material should not de laminate!!! Looks like a nice bow !!!
What do you mean SPAR the riser? I’ve tried looking it up.
🙏🏿🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing.
the factory doesn't drill them for a rest
super Kodiak,I have 4 of them
FANTASTIC VIDEO, THANKS BOYS!
I have a blackhunter longbow I got off Amazon forb80 bucks about 3 years ago and it amazes me everything I shoot it. I have some great bows standard models and hand crafted customs. You just can't beat the value for a beginner or a bow that you take out bow fishing and don't plan on babying it at all. I can appreciate a hand made usa custom bow but the BH certainly has a spot too. I've had no proble harvesting game with it at all. Good review.
I think seeing a bowyer work on other bows customizing them is top form. Really shows your ability and craftsmanship.
so cool
Does your neighbour's shed have many holes? More importantly, is the neighbour aware of this? 😂
Where did you get the corner sanding blocks. Thanks excellent work.
How much is your reworked bow in this model?
What do you recommend for a great way of cleaning your brand new laminated recurve bow?
Wow! I learned a lot; didn't know you could reduce the weight of a non-takedown bow. Outstanding!
Kudos , great work
Truly you have the deft touch of an artist . Now the bow is better than new . Good camera work too , the arrows were dropping straight into the target . very satisfying .
You don't see many MOABs out in the wild. My all-time favorite deflex reflex bows. The grips lines are interesting and the first one i had also shot well to the right everytime. The one I have now does not and it'll never leave here.
Did y’all ever get around to reworking this bow, by chance?
Is there an approximate price to reducing weight on a bow?
I see a lot of these with vertical cracking. Does it matter if it isn’t lifting or delaminating? Scares me but others say it’s fine. Ideas?
Great stuff here. Love the whole series. You can imagine how much more the Black Hunter would be if this type of fit and tiller check was done. I do have to ask as you’ve used the word a lot, are you saying bezel? I’ve never heard of a benzel with an N. No criticism just not sure what I don’t know. Getting back into archery in my late 50s and have a similar shop(tailored to machine work) so these types of improvements are motivating! Thanks!
Looks 🔥
I believe l met Bill at a 3d shoot many years ago. It may have been at the Clinton lake shoot. But I remember a display of his.
We talked a few days ago. My son and I are hoping to plan a moose hunt in Alaska. I'm going to need the 68" reflex reflex , 2 piece longbow bamboo and clear glass. Can hardly wait.
$2000+ for that squatch target is unreal !
