Good informative video.
I've seen in a few of your rework videos that you only go down to 220 grit paper, or 320 after spray coating. Any reason you don't go past 400 grit or even 3000? I reworked my Sage riser, no tools at all, with 60, 150, 400, and finally 3000, and I love the way it turned out--it's insanely smooth now. I'm considering one of these PMZ's for my daughter, and would do a similar rework on it after testing it out. Thanks!
SR Swift risers come apart. Had one came apart twice on the footing.1000 dollar bow no satisfaction.
@@SeanJorgenson-vy8nw well I'm thinking you should buy a black widow bow then. You could probably get your satisfaction
please rework this bow to see if you can improve it ... I would love it.
@@doncampbell1961 Nik did actually try his hand at it. The biggest issue with that bow is the lamination layup is simply not compatible for the location of the shelf which is 2.5" above center. There really is no fixing that bow to a great performing longbow. It's one of those bows that you're better off not ordering. I see people saying it's great performing, but my question to those people is "have you ever shot a high performing longbow?". I don't see how they could've if they think this longbow is great performing. The performance is really awful on it
Good Job 👍👍
Very awesome thank u much for showing
That would’ve been nice guy’s, if you had made us one when we were at the shop a few weeks ago! Lol!
@@rayvillarreal1139 come back and we will!
Ok boys, what should I get for my first bow? I was looking at this bow, another one of the sanlida bows, and I looked at the 62 inch Oberon longbow, but it’s on back order. I have no idea what my preferences are, as this would be my first bow. I’m 5’10 270 pounds and strong. 41 years old. I’m thinking 55 lb draw weight. Takedown versus solid wood? Recurve versus longbow??? I need help!!!
it's a 150 dollar Amazon bow,I have to question your draw,if I drew back to my ear it would be 31.5 inches
@@stevecriswell2838 pretty crappy longbow honestly
@@greatplainsbow I am shooting an older lag black widow its66 56@29,not sure what you make that is comparable, any suggestion? Thats not a traditional longbow
@@Dennis06463 hey we were wondering if you'd have the time to send us a quick manual on what constitutes a traditional longbow. We've been really confused about it
Love the shot sound from that swift 3 piece recurve! Its nice and soft.
Thank for this educational video
Interesting review. I have been shooting 1 or 2 hours a week for over a year. When I first shot the bow for 2 months, i had issues as it was my first trad bow. I added a custom string and adjusted the brace height out to 8 inches. I have had no handshock and my grouping is now within usually 4 inches of grouping from distance. Beaver puffs work great. I did switch to linkboy arrows and now even there arrows shoot tight after I refined my form.
@@worldtraveler8372 it's not a great bow
I've been looking at the black hunter. Thinking about getting one.
Can you tell me name of your dremmel cutting tools and where you get them? Thanks
@@cliftongregg6366 that's a good question . I get them from all over. Were you looking at a particular bit that I use?
@@greatplainsbow The suare bit you used on the takedown handle and I also think I saw you rough in a nock with one which would be a good bit to have also.
@@cliftongregg6366 so the bit I use for my string grooves is this one Kutzall Original Taper Rotary Burr, 1⁄8" Shaft, Fine -Woodworking Attachment for Dremel, Foredom, DeWalt, Milwaukee. Abrasive Tungsten Carbide, 1⁄8" (3.1mm) Head Dia. X 7⁄8" (22.2mm) Length, T-18-EG a.co/d/flpefYS
The rectangular bit in this set is what I use for my socket and tenon takedown system. It's a very good set. I've literally done hundreds of socket and tenons with this set. @@locomotivecommanderpicca4869 for regular use I use a 6 tpi deep hook. For my synthetic glass composites I use a gulleted diamond blade from bandsawbladesdirect. That blade is around $300
Wow I watched this whole video before I realized this was Great Plains bow company. I have a Fleetwood Timber ridge longbow that I’m going to send you at the end of this coming hunting season to be reworked.
@@garrettramsay16 sounds great! Thanks for watching!
Brother and I started doing tic tac toe ,so much fun ,I never used glove for shooting my ReCurve @ 55#, thousands of shots ,started using Bow after couple years rest, now use glove ,way easier
I fired over 1000 arrow plus thru mine and it’s great bow for price. Taken a few pigs and a doe with mine also. Little less forgiving than my old samick sage but I can still shoot really good groups when think about technique but at 50 lbs it thumps anything shoot at. I upgraded string put fur on ends and in strings and tweaked it so it’s pretty quiet too. All in all good product for the money. I have an $800 bow that doesn’t shoot as well. FYI my old Samik sage has taken too many animals to count at this point including stalking and taking a cow elk
@@Celticgolfer69 that's awesome! I'm not a fan of the samick sage, but the bh is a nice little bow
@@greatplainsbow that samick was my first recurve and got it for fun but found I shot it well, bought heavier limbs and started taking it to the blind for the challenge years ago. I got comfortable with it so I just kept taking it. Recurves little easier haul around than compound setups. I now have a couple custom bows that are much better (fitted for me) but the Samick sentimental for me since it was first recurve bow harvested game with and it just works. I can be out of practice and still drop arrows on top of each other at 20-30 yards. Then I Bought the BH couple years ago after a utube video because thought it looked good. I like it also. I bought the long bow version later also. They just look good, shoot pretty well for me. Like you talked about in video, I shoot kind of open handed so I like the way grip fits my hand. I enjoy your content and thanks for commenting back.
@@Celticgolfer69 yep the great thing about traditional bows is really it's what you get uses to and competent with. The samick will always be a special bow to you because you accomplished cool things with it. Happy shooting!

@@tolt1776 oh thank goodness! We've been trying to reach you to get your opinion on this.....we were just so confused about this video, but now we know. Thank you so much.....we aren't worthy
@greatplainsbow cool you're also a narcissistic gaslighting white liberal lol
@@greatplainsbow must be why you replied so fast on a Sunday morning 😅🤣😂
@@tolt1776 yes indeed. We were wondering if it would be too much trouble for you to send us a manual on what are good broadheads and arrows? We'd be more than happy to feature it on TH-cam. We'd make a special video for it.
@greatplainsbow you should just read the ashby reports and make your own mind up. If you are a visual learner Troy Fowler has good content.
If you even would consider buying amazon broadheads you arent a real, ethical, moral minded sportsman. You are a TOOL
Greetings. Firstly, I apologize for the Google translation into English) There is a strange story with my BH bow: the bow is 30 pounds, the arrows are 500 spine, when shooting with three fingers under the arrow, the arrows go to the right, despite the greater rigidity for such a poundage. When shooting with a Mediterranean grip, they move to the left. The lower the fingers are located under the arrow, the greater the displacement of the arrows to the right in the target. Several people shot with different techniques and the results were approximately the same. With what it can be connected? Shoulder tiller? Or, perhaps, due to the fact that the bow is still a little off-centre?
@@denskky5284 there's a good chance it's a tiller problem, but you should be shooting 600 spine with a 30# bow
@@greatplainsbow Yes, immediately after buying the bow I used 600 spine arrows. When aiming at the center of the target, they went too far to the right, about the radius of a standard FITA target for 18 meters. Then I took 500 spine arrows and with them the hits shifted to the left - I managed to hit the center of the target more often. As I already wrote, this problem exists among several shooters who tried to shoot with this bow. So, if the problem is the tiller, what should I do? Increase or decrease the base of the lower arm?
@@denskky5284 if you've tried different spines and it still does it than it is most likely that the bow needs to be cut past center
@@greatplainsbow so the problem is insufficient centershot? To be honest, I thought so myself, because the arrow on the shelf protrudes too much to the left of the bowstring projection.
@@denskky5284 most likely that is the problem
Man, you need to be wearing glasses when drilling and blowing off!

I like both these guys. They need to work and stay together though. The bearded fella says less and looks more closely.
I bought a 45# one from Amazon and have grown to really like the bow. And I have several very expensive custom bows! My bow measured 42# at 28" on my scale. No biggie, still love it. Ordered a reworked 44# bow from Nick. Beautiful workmanship and really upgraded the bow. Chose a red and black one instead of a brown one like I already had. I just shot it through a chronograph for kicks.I draw 27" so the bow is 42# at my draw. 174 fps with a 9.2gr pp arrow, and 145 with a 14.25 gr pp arrow. I like the heavy arrow. Deadly quiet and I'm a 4-14 yd hunter. Thanks Nick for an awesome service!
Just got my reworked bow from you and it is a fantastic upgrade from the stock bow. I really like this bow. I have about 15 longbows and recurves and this one is one of my favorites. Smooth draw, fast, stable and very quiet. My stock bow was supposed to be 45# and it is 42#. I still love it. The one I got from you is 44#. I only draw. 27" so both are a couple of pounds less at my draw. They shoot amazingly quick with heavy 570 gr arrows. (GT Warriors 500 27 3/4 in. 100gr insert, 250 grain tip).
