Cycling for fun and fitness in Central Florida. Exploring bicycle trails in Florida.
Ed Cycles FL C2C WST to Atlantic Ocean Navigation
ES3E1a Ed takes viewers along the Florida Coast To Coast Trail from the Withlacoochee State Trail to the Atlantic Ocean. The focus is on navigating the route by showing viewers where cyclists often make a wrong turn. By going to each of these locations and showing what to look for, Ed hopes that fewer cyclists of this route will go off course in the future. Ed also rides thru the SR 50 gap to show where bike lanes exist and where they do not exist. Ed also shows several tent camping sites along the route and how to get free camping reservations. If you are planning to cycle the Florida C2C route, this video is for you! This video goes from the Withlacoochee State Trail near Ridge Manor to the Atlantic Ocean. If you are planning to cycle the opposite way, look for Ed Cycles FL C2C Atlantic Ocean to WST Navigation.

Ed Cycles SR 50 Gap
มุมมอง 4.4K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
S2E10. Attention Florida Coast to Coast cyclists! The trail gap of 24 miles along State Road 50 between Ridge Manor and Groveland is being shortened. FDOT roadway improvement projects are narrowing this gap to 17.4 miles (along SR50). That still leaves a sizable gap for those who are reluctant to ride along the very busy SR 50. As Ed did with the Orlando Gap, he explores an alternative route to...

Ed Cycles Wekiva Trail Neighborhood Lakes Trail
This is my weekly ride! I love to see others enjoying it as well
It is my favorite and I cycle it often! Thanks for watching.
Good info. Heading down there in Feb. Thanks Ed!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching.
Very thorough and informative video as usual Ed, thank you. I last connected with you on your Lake Monroe loop video. Depending on my wife's work schedule im planing on either Thanksgiving week or the following week to get some rides in on my Me-Mover (stand up bike). I'm looking at doing Lake Monroe, then Marjorie Harris, then Gainseville to Hawthorne. Also the official schedule of our next Comrades On Wheels event is March 3rd through 5th with optional rides on 1st and 2nd. This will be our 7th consecutive year. If you'd like to goof off with some crazy old people on crazy bikes, you're welcome to meet with us on any day you like.
Thanks for the invite! Work keeps me close to home these days. I am happy you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching!
Great to see you back on the trails.
Good to be back!! Though I continued to cycle thru the summer, I took the summer heat and humidity months off from filming. Sweat makes for a terrible close-up! Thanks for watching my return! More to come!
The best, most accurate information yet, from any cyclists. Can't thank you enough, Ed.
You are welcome!! Thank you for watching and thank you for posting!!
It's great to see that you are out documenting the trails again. Is the footage from Titusville current? I know that earlier in the year, there was construction just past the Max Brewer Bridge, and I wasn't sure if it was still an issue.
The footage of Titusville on the video that starts at Titusville is current. The construction east of the Brewer bridge is for development of Parrish Park and parking. I don't think it is a trailhead specifically, but could be used for trail parking when complete. Any video segments with the wording 'footage of video...' is older footage. I take the hot summer months off from documenting so I can plan and be ready to record when the cools. Thanks for watching!
Outstanding coverage of one of the most stressful parts of the C2C. Fantastic job integrating your previous videos and love all the maps and your clear and concise explanation. Look forward to your future videos! Would love to see coverage of the current condition of the Heart of Florida trail.
Thank you for the compliments. It feels good to know that my efforts are useful and appreciated! I do not expect to do a Heart of Florida route video but who knows? Thanks for watching!
I loved this video out of all videos you did the best of showing the trail and explaining . Even I can understand and follow. I get lost iny back yard. Ty
Thank you! I appreciate the positive feedback. Thanks for watching and posting.
Yay. More sprawl coming soon.
You are a Central Florida treasure!
Thank you for the kind words!
Ed, you are greatly appreciated!
I appreciate that! Thanks!!
I sometimes ride from Altamonte Springs to Clermont and back to Altamonte for my weekly "metric century" ride. I avoid being on the "big roads" for too long and take a convoluted but safe route mostly through neighborhoods, and I'll share my route here. From Seminole Wekiva Trail, before approaching Bear Lake Road, there are a couple of small gaps in the vegetation on the right that people use in the adjacent neighborhood. I use one to get on Don Mar Street, turn right on Bear Lake Road and stay there very briefly before turning left on Bear Lake Circle / Linneal Beach Drive. There's a lot of raised road humps here but I don't mind. I take that street almost to its end and turn left on Oranole Way. Then I turn right on 441 and ride the shoulder a short distance to turn left at Benbow Court, what I call the "Walmart light" and ride the access road along the outparcel buildings towards the Sam's Club and make another left onto Hiawassee Road. This way, I avoid the 441/Hiawassee intersection. Then I turn right onto a very short side street called Piedmont Wekiva Road, and from there make another right onto Apopka Blvd. I go about half a mile then make a left onto Lakeville Road. From there I make the first right onto Tindaro Drive. In that neighborhood there there's a few options of which streets to take but I generally immediately turn left onto Margarete Crescent Drive, right at Sheeler Oaks Drive / Cherrybark Road, left at Lacey Oaks Drive, left at Sheeler Hills Drive, and finally I cross Sheeler Avenue onto Perlite Place. Do note that this section is rather hilly by Florida standards and less experienced riders might have to walk the incline up Perlite, or Lacey Oaks if heading in the opposite direction. This is another neighborhood with a couple of options but I go here to avoid the Sheeler / Keene intersection. From Perlite it's a right onto Panical Drive, left at Abilia Alley, right at Bonsai Street, left at Liner Avenue, and finally I make a right turn onto Keene Road. From there it's just a third of a mile to the Old Apopka / Clarcona Road intersection where the large greenhouses are and I make a left onto the West Orange Trail. From there, it's all paved trail riding to downtown Clermont. I know it seems like a lot of turns and I had to run this route a couple of times with Google Maps before I memorized it. At about 5 miles between Seminole Wekiva and West Orange Trail, my route is not that bad but I'm always looking for ways to improve it. From my experience, only the 441/Hiawassee sections of my route are sketchy but I keep my time on them to a minimum. Often I don't ride on Hiawassee's car lanes at all and instead ride the sidewalk here. If only FDOT could spare a sliver of land alongside 414 and build a trial like the new Wekiva Parkway has, this would easily solve the gap. There's a railroad along there too that can be considered that has more shade but it's an active railroad as far as I'm aware, maybe it can be a rail with trail setup?
I followed your route on a map and it does make use of many quiet neighborhood streets. I am all for whatever works for each person. I'll call this route option 12!! My understanding is the planned gap route will use the trail along Maitland Blvd to US441. Then left along US441 and onto N Apopka Blvd, right along Beggs, left along Pine Hills Rd and right along Clarcona Ocoee Rd. Whichever way it is built, I hope it is built soon. Thanks for watching and thanks for posting your route.
Ed, I've missed your trail videos. Hoping you are doing ok and will be back to posting vids soon.
Hey Scott! All is good here. I take the summers off from recording rides as no one wants to see what I look like when I sweat! Fear not, I have more videos planned. Season 3 should start being recorded and posted in a couple of months. Hang in there!
@@Ed_Cycles Glad to hear. Looking forward to new videos. Hopefully I’ll see you out there in the trails.
I love these back roads. I prefer them to the bike trails. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Me too! So long as there is little vehicle traffic which I believe describes these particular roads. Thanks for watching!
The lake overlook you stopped at right before the Buckingham estates is called lake Irish. ☘️
Thank you! And thanks for posting this!
Ed do you have a Facebook page?
No. But I will be making more central Florida cycling videos when the weather cools down a bit. Look for the start of season 3 in a couple of months.
@@Ed_Cycles thanks, Ed. Thinking about doing the C2C trail east to west and I’ll look to piece your videos together in that order. Helps a lot. Thanks again for the time you’ve taken.
Nicely done, Ed. Best video on trail I’ve seen. Good detail from both audio and video. Thanks for the time you put into this.
I enjoy making these videos to help fellow cyclists! Thank you for the compliments. It is how I get paid!
Excellent video Ed. I would add one comment from my own experience: Sometimes riding on a 2-lane back road with zero shoulder and 55+ mph traffic can be more dangerous than riding along a 55 mph road with a 3-foot bike lane.
As always, make your route decision and ride at your own risk. Thanks for posting!
Ed, thank you for visting my neck of the woods. I'm getting ready to ride that trail myself this morning. I live really close to Blue Springs State Park and have ridden that trail for decades. I've watched it grow and grow. Sadly it's still incomplete as it's suppossed to go all the way north to DeLeon Springs State Park and beyond. Great video btw!
I too am anxiously waiting for the two sections of trail to be joined, and then continue up to Palatka. Happy you like the video. Thanks for watching and posting!
the gap looks like it is the Green Swamp preserve which is supposed to stay in its natural state
I agree. It is why I show a way to navigate the gap on existing paved roads and avoid disturbing the swamp.
Hi Ed. Just found your channel and I am enjoying all of your videos. I live in Palm Beach county so it certainly is a different world in central florida. I was wondering if you have thought about riding the withlacoochee rail trail and Pinellas rail trail. I would enjoy seeing those videos!!
Hello! Yes, I have thought about riding and recording those trails. At this time, I hesitate to go there because of the travel time by vehicle with traffic. It may happen someday though. Thanks for watching and keep on pedaling!!
Maybe wait till the weather gets a touch cooler also!
Not sure if it is on my end I was able to hear the music but couldn’t hear you speak. I hope the weather is good this weekend because this loop has our name on it. Thanks for making this great video.
It is a great route and my personal favorite. I just checked the video on my smartphone and have no issues with either the narration or the music. I have no idea what could be the issue, but thanks for letting me know. Keep on pedaling!
@@Ed_Cycles thanks Ed I checked it on my iPhone as well and I had no issues. Must be my iPad. Time to upgrade lol
Thanks for letting me know. Enjoy the ride!
@@Ed_Cycles we did your lake Monroe loop and it was fantastic
Great information. Thanks Ed you invested so much time. This really helps on deciding what route to take. We appreciate all you do. Thanks again. Great video.
I am really happy that you find my video useful. This is what I strive for with every one of my videos. Thank you for watching and for posting!
As always, you are providing incredibly useful content. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Looks like a great bike ride. Made me decide to drive from New Port Richey just to do the loop. Think i need to go with someone familiar with the route
I do it every weekend with a group of friends
I understand. The heat is not pleasant. I have a friend that lives in Crystal River. I am visiting down her in October. I would love to ride then, if something comes up and you guys don't mind me tagging along. Thanks
Hi, I would like to cycle with you are the group that you cycle with. I live in South Ga. but I have not found a group to ride with. When will you guys cycle again? Love the videos you are producing. Very informative.
I have no plans for cycling in this heat. Will be a few months. Appreciate your favorable comments and your watching! Keep on cycling!
Been planning a fall ride of the coast to coast and trying to figure out the gaps. Your videos are awesome Ed!! Thank you!!
Thank you for watching!
Do you turn around and ride the trail back to your vehicle, or what do you do?
Yes. Need to get back to my motorized ride! Thanks for watching!
How many hours did it take for complete trip? I'm definitely going to have to ride the loop.
Well, it's 28 miles with very few major road crossings. I would say about 2-1/4 hours for the average person. Nice places to visit like Gemini Springs and Green Springs if you have the time. It's a great loop route! Thanks for watching.
I always go maitland blvd to obt, right on obt, left hiawasee, right clarcona ocoee to west ornge trail. Side walks the whole way. Riding with traffic on any of these roads especially obt is crazy
Even though we've done this trail many times its still enjoyable to watch you ride along with your narration, thanks! This past May i actually boondocked in my van at the rest stop on I-4 near the bike overpass, then headed over to the Cady Way. Didn't know Sanlando Park had showers, if they'll allow me to use them that will give me another shower spot besides Waterfront Park in Clermont.
Tom, I watched some of your Comrades videos. That's alot of standing! Appreciate your comments. Thanks for watching!
Thank you Ed very good video and show places that are worth visit. thank you for taking your time and show this to us
You are welcome! Thanks for posting.
Fantastic information Ed, thank you so much.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for taking the time to upload this.
You are welcome! Let me know if you utilize this route thru the gap. Thanks for watching.
Very informative and nicely put together video, thanks! I'm in Fort Lauderdale and enjoy getting up your way occasionally. I just did a three day adventure in May and plan to do sometime similar in October after it cools off a little. Lake Monroe looks very inviting.. if my wife lets me loose for four days in October I'll include it : )
Many nice trails in the Orlando area. The longer trails have videos on my channel. Lake Monroe is particularly nice in that you can ride a loop so the view changes. I appreciate you watching and posting!
@@Ed_Cycles I looked at your videos, I see we've been on some of the same trails. Every year in March a group of us old folks meet in Clermont for a 3 day event.. next year will be our 7th in a row. Our usual trails are South Lake, West Orange, and Seminole Wekiva. This October I'll be alone, I want to explore Marjorie Harris, Gainesville to Hawthorne, and then on the west coast to ride the Cortney Campbell Causeway/Ream Wilson before heading home, but hope to squeeze in your Lake Osborne route as well. By the way, we all ride 3 wheel stand up bikes... Me-Movers, Halfbikes, and Trikkes. If you want to take a peek at our antics there are several vids on my channel. By the way, we call our group Comrades On Wheels, so anything will wheels is welcome, especially you!
Tom, what is the name of your channel? I will have a look!
This should get you there, I hope : ) @@Ed_Cycles youtube.com/@tomcase2837?feature=shared
Thanks for the video. Concerning that a lot of those roads have really high speed limit. I'm looking fwd to doing C2C later this year.
The side roads have lower speed limits than SR50 and the main thing is they have much less vehicle traffic. But you still have the option of riding in the bike lane along SR50. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video, this will be very helpful for people researching the C2C. The three times I did the C2C, I took the Rose Ave/Clarcona Ocoee route. Pretty straightforward, and most importantly to me, no traveling on high volume roads. Hopefully the gap will be connected soon.
Thanks for watching and for posting!
Great research and great video. Would you be willin go add links to your RideWithGPS routes to the description?
I will try doing that, but cannot get to my computer until this evening. Thank you for the suggestion!
This is such a useful resource. Thanks for all you do.
I really appreciate your feedback. Thank you for watching and for posting!
If you have to get in the car, then I wouldn't be interested
Yes, and that is why I showed those alternative routes. People have asked about biking those routes, such as along US441 to get through this gap. I included them to show you how the route looks and for you to draw your own conclusions. No one knows what the viable options are until you explore all of the options.
Thanks for the ride! I would probably ride on the sidewalk over the bridges, here in Florida. Too much road debris along the sides ... concerns me more about tire puntures :)
I have found that the amount of debris varies over time. We have not gotten much rain lately so there is more debris. When we get summer storms, debris gets flushed away. But the sidewalk is always a viable option! Thanks for posting.
Great video. Thank you Ed.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much Ed. Now I feel a lot more confident about riding across Florida.
You are very welcome. I look forward to posts giving me feedback on their ride using this route. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your effort on this Ed, well done.
Glad you enjoyed it. I hope many people will benefit from this while we all wait for the rest of the SR50 trail to be completed.
I rode this today Ed after are Lake Monroe ride. A nice Sunday ride out in the open hot sun with no trees on the path, but with nice payment all the way and the traffic was not bad when you had to cross roads. I rode the part that keeps going straight before the turn to West Neighborhood Trailhead and it is 3/4 of a mile before it dead ends. All and all it was a great day for a bike ride. Looking to finish my Memorial Day weekend with a Cross Seminole trail bike ride. Jeff...
Way to go, Jeff. Keep on pedaling! It's a great day for a bike ride (or two)!!
Hello Ed, Im glad I bump into you today and got to ride Lake Monroe, just ordered the thermo kuppe and ready for another great day for a bike ride. Hope to bike into you again. Thanks and keep up the vids. Jeff!
Jeff, likewise, great to talk 'shop' with you and to show you the new to you parts of the Lake Monroe Loop. My favorite! You will love that water bottle! Thanks for reaching out and hope to cross paths again soon!

Cooooooolest tee ever
Ed, this is a great alternative to SR50. I've ridden several of these roads and most at very quiet and enjoyable to ride. I would never advocate riding the entire gap on SR50 if one isn't comfortable riding on a busy road but if anyone wants to try it, early Sunday morning is as good as it gets. Make sure you have a flashing red light on the rear of your bike (I have two) and a mirror. I also ride with a Garmin radar to give me a little more warning. Also there are several areas on SR50 that have sidewalks that are rideable which reduces the amount of time on the road. Keep up the great work keeping the cycling community informed. It is much appreciated.
Thank you! I appreciate you watching and posting feedback!
Thanks Ed for all the time you put into this. Not just driving the route, but editing, adding maps titles, mileage, AADT, etc. Awesome labor of love.
My youtube channel is not monetized, so my payment is in the form of compliments and accolades. Thank you for a great payday!!
