If your children have these two gents as their influencers, they are going to make you proud.
Excellent and uplifting. Would love to hear a post election version now that we will be dealing with a much more challenging political sphere. 🙏🏼
Coal mining is disgusting and should be stopped. Find some other way to keep the lights on!
Thomas Friedman was one of the main advocates for the invasion of Iraq; after such ROYAL SCREW UP it is remarkable that this guy is still participating in public debates!
I’m an Australian. Can’t tell you how much I’ve just learned from you Mr Jones. Let’s pray you can inspire some of those ‘awesome’ people you talk about to start finding each other and joining forces ….across the isle. Bless you
Seems like 2 sellouts trying to bring back narrative to their foreign funders lines. Until Dems are controlled by lobbyists, foreign or local, they will stay losers
This was illuminating, uplifting, and beautiful , many thanks to the speakers and organizers 🙏
BULLSHIT ACROSS ASLIE
Great video!
Van Johns found the bipartisan after A great loss of for the democrats 😅
No, he’s way been doing this forever. But he is a Democrat
How come only democrats know how to reach across the aisle…… bigger ECHO chamber….
This guy is a very powerful! After all we are all Americans and we should care for each other.
And u are the best of the best Van jones. Thank you heart and soul for your grace and compassion courage and strength. Wish you would run for President. 💚🙏🏼
In terms of the direct impact on crime, Jones is likely overstating Tramp's First Step Act, since there is a ratio of ten to one, between state and federal inmates. Many new approaches to crime have been employed, in the last century, but crime has continued to rise, at least the heinousness instances of it, seems to have significantly increased. I suspect that federal inmates like many White opioid addicts have better lives to return to, once they get out of prison, or kick their habit. Whatever is being done to address that problem, may not have an impact on Black addicts. Rehabilitating inmates is only half of the solution, to crime, in terms of inmates. We must stop producing new ones. Many factors are involved in criminality, especially the recidivism rate associated with it. I believe there is a cultural factor that is being largely ignored, by all involved in solving the problems. If they are working in this area, I doubt it is being done, in as systematic a manner, as is needed. Enough is surely not being done, to stress to the public the widespread harm the ripple effect, the crime level and nature of it, has on the overall society. I'm of the opinion that the 'War on Poverty', has never been successful, because the people who received the help, were/are the main soldiers, in that war effort, and they are the ones, who must do the bulk of the fighting. They were never given marching order - what their specific role was. They were not made aware of the importance of the war, that it must be won, and what the consequences were, if the war was not won. This same approach is needed, for all the problems we face, as a nation, even for the common problems we face, as a specie. We would do ourselves well, to give ourselves a 'peace-dividend'. This is a message someone like Jones seems built to deliver, to the country, and the world.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. At Planet Word, we aim to inspire deeper conversations about the power of language, including its role in addressing complex societal challenges. We appreciate your insights on this discussion with Van Jones and hope you’ll continue engaging with our programs.
@@PlanetWordDC I appreciate you responding to my comments, but I truly would like to hear what you think of the idea of promoting, among the public, the benefit of a peace-dividend.
This looks fun
Dude makes some stuff here, like sub-types of dyslexia. There is NO empirical validation of specific sub-types of dyslexia. It is much more complex than that.
Writing helps a person's emotional distress more than talking.
This is fascinating work and meshes so well with what I knew, in patches. I am going to dig up the papers by Dr. Stanislas Dehaene. Thank you for sharing.
The brotherhood we need to see more of. Just beautiful. And thank you Jason Reynolds for giving Nikki Finney her props, she's worthy of being a household name just like Nikki Giovanni. Tony - your voice is so necessary. Peace to all involved.

Amazing interview......
I am excited to hear about all of the hard work she puts into being such a phenomenal narrator! 😃
I really enjoyed this video and truly believe we all need to be listening to Dr. Stanislas Dehaene and Dr. Mark Seidenberg when it comes to beginning reading instruction. I'm not sure if it's in this video or another one, where Dehaene talks about all words being able to read phonetically. I'm attaching a link to a video I've created of my daughter's journey becoming a proficient reader. The video is her journey reading phonetically-controlled books. She has not been given a single word to memorise. She reads all words phonetically by blending the sounds from left to right, even words that many people think cannot be read in this way. th-cam.com/video/6Yp3orsGLNw/w-d-xo.html

Just found out about maureen, enjoying the video!
Everyday we encounter more evil, manipulative and controlling people....as a teacher and father, I fear for the unaware. A former student's husband just contacted me, infoming me she just got "sucked in" by scientology and left him.....maried only two years. She's in the blue building in LA now, all info controlled, etc etc. Looks like scientology is starting to crumble simply from truth escaping due to internet: She will rue the day she did this.
We are learning cult terminology to know what it is, …like… “thought terminating cliché” im now in the anti-cult “ cult”
but the difference is, that this is a well-defined subject specific jargon. Nothing devious. If you meant it light heartedly, that's funny :)
Great interview. From both sides.
How are there no comments? This was great. Thank you.
Wonderful. The excitement and love, the connections between culture and poetry, between identify and poetry, these two "Ed Emcees" Jason Reynolds and Tony Keith, Jr., Ph.D., brings us these connections. Thank you for sharing, Planet Word.

I just discovered Sold a Story. It’s really eye opening. No wonder kids get to high school and don’t read well. Let alone comprehension! Poor kids. And they feel dumb. They don’t know it’s a systemic failure. Parents don’t have this information so they can’t advocate for their kids.
22:26 … My favorite (read: pet peeve) “thought terminating cliche” is “hater.” When I hear it I’m always stuck wondering why it’s said, who’s saying it and who they’re directing it toward. It always just felt like a coping mechanism or as a sort of excuse. The term “thought terminating cliche” I think sums it up nicely. Thank you for teaching me that.
Julia Whelan is so incredibly talented.
Maureen, I have read your book "So We Read On" , and comments by Matthew Bruccoli. These have been so helpful in adding enjoyment to reading Gatsby again, and again. I confess that I had never read this book until 1979, ten years after graduating high school. If it had been assigned, I am sure I would have paged through this and made my report from that, probably receiving a D or generous C grade. I happened to find this book at my mother's home and read the first couple of sentences. I took it home and continued reading a few pages after work each night until I came to the mention of Louisville, and Camp Taylor. These drew my interest because I live in Louisville and as a youngster played football at Camp Taylor park. After completing my reading of the novel I always felt closer to the book when passing Camp Taylor, which is completely different from Fitzgerald's time here. It has stayed in my thoughts since my first reading it 44 years ago. I have tried to interest my wife in the book but she only seemed drawn to Robert Redford's portraying Gatsby in the movie. My apologies for going on and on. I do want to thank you for your enthusiasm on Fitzgerald's genius. His writing, especially with this masterpiece which amazes me more and more.
I am a self educated linguist and am grateful to Mr ganesh for the information
a pan India uni varsity should be set up exclusively for linguistics
I feel ashamed that such a noble idea ñever came to me
Some òf these billionaires should underwrite the expenditure and see that Mr ganesh retires comfortably
It is a ĝreat feat and Mr ganesh should be given the noble prize
Thank you so much for this video! I was absolutely shocked to find out native speakers do have such troubles with reading. I’m an ESL teacher and kids in my county aren’t taught phonics instructions at school at all. How can we expect them to read or speak English without this essential step. That’s the question. Both the podcast and this video are vital and awesome❤ thank you!
Dear Sanaz, I appreciate your effort and glad to hear someone having the same idea which I shared a few years ago to UniteNation but no-one payed attention to me. I'm carrying a tragedy of my life from beginning till now to share with you. I look forward seeing response from you if you are interested to write about it, as well. Sincerely
I just learned about her winning of Pulitzer, which is SO FANTASTIC👏👏👏👏 Sanaz is so sweet and cognizant of her feelings and artistically sculptures them into words. As Iranians begin to learn more about her and what she has done, her plays will be sold out in many U.S. cities. I think this particular interview with her is so nice, when she had no idea how it will be recognized.
Thanks for sharing this interview! I really enjoyed the book and thought it was such a helpful way to think about some trends revealed in our modern society that at times feel unfathomable, as she cited. Awareness is the first step to compassion and empathy. I only wish her audio was a bit clearer! The author was very quiet relative to the interviewer.
Very interesting! (I'm a native speaker of American English, but I still had to look up a lot of the words & expressions that were shown in this presentation.)
maureen should read the book, writing gatsby by william hazelwood, aan excellent work about scott and zelda as well as the writing of the book.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I missed it live and am so glad to see and hear it now!
I am in the camp of April Berry who said "Iwill read any book she narrates. Also, I will be girly here Julia, you are a beauty! Could you share your skincare routine? And your makeup products?
