4:24 WHERE IS THAT FROM?????
I was one of the 80 trombone players. One of the most amazing gigs of my life. We were payed $100 each (very good pay back then) At one point we played 80 different notes in quarter tones, and the place felt like it was going to explode. The audience was from the American Organists Convention and many of them were there to hear Bach and Buxtehude, not THIS. Some through their programs in the air and walked out. It was marvelous!

Es hat diesen zugang zu einer düsteren Realität weit weg wo die welt und das leben so ist wie diese musik
very nice recording, thank you. i t inspires me to look up the names of the people on it, i love the mix of live and tape sound, very organically played. can almost see the man himself directing :). first inventors of a wheel that still turns..
Den här musiken påminner om riktigheten kring vardagen!
These symphonies are a revolution! Why have I only just discovered them? What have the orchestral programmers of world famous orchestras been doing not including some of these gems in concerts for them become better known and valued?
Listening to this is about as pleasant as getting needles pushed under your fingernails
This is 1962 not 1952 - just for information!

Remember this is a record from WW 2 when it was freezing and people had no way to go!
I honestly find this beautiful. Unlike anything else he composed. Its better than Schoenberg that's for sure!
Well, after reading her biography on Wikipedia, I must say, who am I to argue with such a prestigiously trained composer! Therefore, since I do not like her music on first listen, is there something here for me to learn? As I suggested 7 years ago, I'm off to listen to some of her other works.
I guess Phil Lesh's professor was pretty cool
Als Zappa Fan komme gut klar mit Herrn Scelsi. Schräg aber abgefahren.
I have just discovered this composer. Why have I taken so long?😢
gross
insanely underrated what the heck
Soundtrackishly in tune
Valen's friend Sverre Kristensen drowned during WWII after the ship he was on hit a mine. The news reached him while he was writing the second movement of this work, and it left an impression: The passage starting at 9:08 is supposed to portrait the eerily calm, still sea after the mine blast.

Another hidden American Musical genius.
A beautiful and forgotten concerto. So pleased to hear this lyric gem.
pièce fantasque, agitée et spectaculaire, très intéressante
Magnificent and profoundly moving.
thank you for posting. It is a fine work of it's time.
Someone tried to introduce me to Panufnik's music in 1980. I honestly found it a bit unpalatable at the time, and the person trying to educate me was overly intense, but listening to his music now, and this concerto, in particular, is enjoyable.
I hear the influence of Bartok much more than the other composers mentioned below. What a fantastic piece.
Might be too late, but where can I have the score? If anyone has it please contact me
Sounds just like The Beatles!!!
На свое 80-ти летие она приезжала в Москву и в малом зале Консерватории был концерт, на котором присутствовала сама Губайдуллина.
I heard a live performance once in Duke Chapel. Fabulous music.
Very Hitchcock.
Simplicidade e criatividade no estilo contemporâneo de Panufnik. Um belo concerto.
Was he moving toward spectralism in this piece?
I didn't know he got beyond the ninth which reminded me of Pousseur at moments
❤
nono, maderna, scelci, bério, viva italia!!

Point of interest: at some later date, Martin arranged this work for flute solo and piano (or orchestra): th-cam.com/video/5X7A8lI8o8w/w-d-xo.html
"Do you know the old language" I heard this as a young trumpet player, Schwartz is amazing. I still have my vinyl copy but it's warn out 😥. Thanks for posting. Do you have the rest of the album?
